This weekend at the Loewe, Jean Paul Gaultier, Sonia Rykiel and Akris shows in Paris, Redken Creative Consultant Guido was backstage creating the hairstyles to compliment the designers’ Fall/Winter 2010 collections. Find out the must-have products and inspiration from each show!

LOEWE

For a 1940s, sculpted shape of the hair at Loewe, Guido’s key product was Redken forceful 23 hairspray that kept the look in place and gave it that ‘plastic’ feel: “The clothes at Loewe are very feminine, with a few suits, so we wanted to nod to the 1940s and create a sophisticated, sculpted shape with the hair.” -Guido, Redken Creative Consultant

Hair Tutorial:

1. Begin with damp hair and blow-dry fabricate 03 heat active texturizer into hair.

2. Create a very straight center part in the hair.

3. On both sides of the head, from the part to the ear, create a few waves with the hair and secure with hair clips to help set.

4. Spray forceful 23 super strength finishing spray over waves and apply heat from dryer to set the wave with forceful so hair doesn’t move.

5. Using a donut pad, roll the remaining portion of the hair up into the donut until reaching the nape of the neck. Secure with pins.

6. Spray forceful 23 super strength finishing spray all over hair to create a “plastic, cartoon-like” effect.

JEAN PAUL GAULTIER

The choice accessories for the designer this season were hats and turbans to give a ‘world traveler’ emphasis to the line. For the four looks that didn’t have these accessories, Guido created an undone side ponytail. “Jean Paul Gaultier’s collection was influenced by the world traveler. The collection featured many hats and turbans as signature pieces, so the hair took a step back.” -Guido, Redken Creative Consultant

Hair Tutorial:

1. Blow-dry thickening lotion 06 body builder into hair.

2. Create a messy side part.

3. Pull hair into a right-side ponytail and secure with elastic.

SONIA RYKIEL

For the romantic Sonia Rykiel line, hair was pulled into a low ponytail with a left side part with the front section sweeping over the right eye. The pieces softly fell out around the face and complemented the pom pom headbands worn by all the models. “Sonia Rykiel really lets models have fun on the runway, a certain ‘joie de vivre.’ The hairstyle is modern yet playful and complements the artistic, femme-fatal clothing and the Parisian designer who takes inspiration from the ultra artsy Left Bank. “ -Guido, Redken Creative Consultant

Hair Tutorial:

1. On damp hair, rough dry fabricate 03 heat active texturizer into hair.

2. Using a curling iron, twist hair into soft curls.

3. Brush out curls, to look more like a wave.

4. Create a side part on the left side of the head.

5. Pull hair into low ponytail and secure with elastic.

6. Loosen hair on the left side by the hair line so hair covers the right eye.

7. Lightly spray quick dry 18 instant finishing spray for finish and hold.

AKRIS

For this minimalistic Swiss design house, Guido complemented the looks with a low ponytail with a left side part for a style that was tailored, modern and feminine. “The hairstyle was inspired by the collection – simple, modern, and wearable.” -Guido, Redken Creative Consultant
