“Karl Lagerfeld gave me three key words: Neon Baroque, Chemical Pastels and Liquid Silver. For the lips I used the new Summer 2010 Rouge Allure Lipstick in Genial. This coral shade perfectly matched the Technicolor and Neon Baroque spirit Karl wanted for the makeup at this show.”- Peter Philips, Global Creative Director of CHANEL Makeup.

I’m excited to share with you my interview with Amy Bailey who has begun to make her mark within Hollywood’s demanding movie stars. Amy can be seen in the star-studded movie, “Nine” along side Nicole Kidman, Penelope Cruz, and Kate Hudson. Up next for the actress, she will be playing the Hatteress in Tim Burton’s “Alice in Wonderland.”

Amy Bailey

In this interview Amy Bailey tells Marta Walsh about how it all began for her in Hollywood. Her role in the film “Nine” and what was it like working with its director Rob Marshall. How one day she took Penelope Cruz and her sister to see the Royal Ballet perform. Her latest acting role in  ”Alice in Wonderland”, also staring in this film Johnny Depp. Future plans, and of course, style and beauty secrets!

Marta Walsh: Where did you grow up and where is home for you?
Amy Baliey: I grew up in a coastal town called Corpus Christi, in South Texas. I loved going to the beach right after school. Now I divide my time between London and L.A.

MW: How did you decide on a career in showbiz, and what were some of your first breaks?
AB: I was a professional ballerina by 17yrs old, so I guess being onstage always felt pretty natural. My parents couldn’t believe that as a teenager I would skip out parties because I had ballet class the next morning. It kept me out of trouble, for the most part :)

Lately I feel as if I’m digging into the history of Beverly Hills and its world of celebrity beauty and glamour. Few weeks ago I interviewed celebrity hairdresser and image maker Allen Edwards who is famous for creating Farrah Fawcett’s haircut aka The Farrah. Allen also began his career in Beverly Hills. I also got the chance to interview Greta the founder of Beverly Hills’ longest standing boutique GRETA. Located at 141 S. Beverly Drive a very strategic location I must add, the GRETA Boutique attracted many celebrities since 1961. Think: Zsa Zsa Gabor, Barbara Sinatra, and Shirley Fonda just to name a few.

Greta founder of GRETA Boutique

In this interview Greta talks to Marta Walsh about her beginnings in fashion and her meeting with fashion designers Jill Sander and Gianni Versace. The celebrities she got to dress over the years and how she manages to honor the history and legacy of GRETA Boutique and also adapting to new times. And of course, future plans.

Marta Walsh: Of all the 48 years in business, what were some of the most memorable moments of fashion in your career?
Greta: My very first buying trip to Europe was one of my first memories in my career. On this trip I met Jill Sander and Gianni Versace. Gianni was designing for Genny Byblos at the time and I went to his runway show in Milan. The show was so breathtaking that I felt like I was walking on cloud nine for the rest of the day. This is when I knew fashion would be an inspiration on my life forever.

Model wearing an outfit by Sachin + Babi Resort 2010 availabe at GRETA Boutique.
For Resort 2010, Sachin + Babi for Ankasa is all about “shine”. This season’s woman
is ultra chic, sleek and modern. Every piece is luxe yet airy and effortless, and cut in
silhouettes that translate easily from day to night.

The following interview was quite a fascinating experience for me. Few weeks ago I was given an incredible chance to chat with Allen Edwards the man who created The Farrah for Farrah Fawcett one of the most famous haircuts of our time. I grew up in Israel watching my mom trying to get The Farrah and even me as a child was dreaming of having that flip and layered cut. It felt like I was writing a piece in history. Farrah left Allen Edwards at one point to another hairdresser called: Jose Eber, who apparently also takes credit for creating The Farrah. But, Farrah Fawcett went to Allen first! Read more.

Allen Edwards

For more than three decades the internationally recognized beauty industry icon, Allen Edwards has been styling the tresses of some of the most glamorous women in the world including Farrah Fawcett, Donna Mills, Anne Bancroft, Diane Keaton and Raquel Welch. It was Edwards who fashioned Assistant District Attorney Marcia Clark’s new look during the O.J. Simpson murder trial. Modern Salon Magazine recently named Allen Edwards among 50 most influencial hairdressers in history with industry leaders Vidal Sasson, Jose Eber and Sally Hershberger. Also a must read Allen’s 200-page memoir: “Shear Force: An Image-Maker’s Memoir”, released in 2008. The book details the glitzy Beverly Hills beauty industry over the past 30 years and Allen Edwards tumultuous parallel ride through it all.

In this interview Allen Edwards talks to Marta Walsh about his beginnings as a young hairdresser in Beverly Hills. How one day he met Farrah Fawcett and what led him creating The Farrah one of the most famous haircuts of our time . Talks about the changes in hairstyles and celebrities over the years. The celebrity who he would love to style today. His favorite Shear Force products. Gives advice to aspiring celebrity hairstylists. And talks future plans.

Marta Walsh: When did your interest in hair design begin?
Allen Edwards: I was always into the arts side of the world. I was a musician and a dancer from 8 years old till I was 19. I thought that’s what I’m going to do. After meeting other musicians I’ve realized they really didn’t make much money. When I got out of high school I quit playing trumpet. Around that time I met some people who went to beauty school. That interested me. Since I quite music and career was always important to me, I decided to go to beauty school. It came really easy to me.

I’m excite to share with you my interview with Avon Global Stylist Advisor Tippi Shorter.

Tippi Shorter

In 1995 Tippi headed from home town, Long Beach, California to New York City, and within a year of her move she was asked to participate in a beauty feature for Essence magazine. Tippi opened Luxe Studio in Soho, but sold the successful salon after four years to pursue other career opportunities such as styling for photo shoots, music videos and commercials. Tippi is known for taming the tresses of A-list actresses, musicians, and supermodels including Alicia Keys, Rihanna, Jennifer Hudson, Beyonce, Jada Pinkett-Smith, and Vanessa Williams, to name a few! And while her beauty masterpieces are seen on the covers and editorial pages of In Style and Vanity Fair, Tippi remains modest and humble saying “I am not a celebrity hairstylist. I am a hairstylist who happens to have the opportunity to work with many wonderful celebrities.”

I’m so excited to share with you my interview with Daymond John founder of FUBU and star of ABC’s The Shark Tank. As a New Yorker myself the name FUBU rings many bells but mostly Mr. Daymond John and FUBU are a success story that inspired me all these years.

Daymond John

A success story, an industry leader, a young entrepreneur, a man who has reached and surpassed new heights of commercial and financial success – just a fraction of classifications used to describe Daymond John. Over the last 18 years, Daymond has evolved into one of the most successful fashion icons in business today. Known as the “Godfather of Urban Fashion,” Daymond is also regarded one of the most sought after branding experts and motivational speakers in the country. Having graduated from waiting tables at Red Lobster to being the CEO of a multi-million dollar enterprise, complete with sky rise offices in the Empire State Building, Daymond John is living “the American Dream.”’

In this interview Daymond John talks to Marta Walsh about his beginnings in fashion. What made FUBU take off. His passion for inspiring others and giving back. His encounter with President Barack Obama. Why did he decide to join ABC’s Shark Tank. Gives advice to aspiring entrepreneurs. Describes his personal style, philosophy about beauty, and talks future plans.

Marta Walsh: When did your fascination with fashion and style begin?
Daymond John: It goes as far back as when I was 5 or 6 years old. I used to watch my mother put patterns of clothes on the floor and I helped her cut them with scissors and sew them all together. My own interest for fashion and style grew when I was 13 and around the time when Hip Hop began to emerge in Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and New York. The new music genre also translated into a change in how people used to dress on the street, and that was very inspiring to me.
