Hello lovlies:) I’m super excited to share with you today my interview with Hollywood actress and star of an American dramatic television series Mad Men Christina Hendricks. Last month Christina Hendricks kicked off the LATTISSE Wishes Challenge. About the same time I was given the chance to interview Miss Hendricks about LATTISSE, her role in Mad Men, beauty, inspirations, and future plans.

Marta Walsh: Where do you call home?
Christina Hendricks: Home is in Los Angeles, where I live with my husband.

MW: How did you get into acting?
CH: I always wanted to be an actress. I started doing community theater in my home town when I was young, then moved to New York to pursue acting fulltime.

MW: How did your collaboration with LATTISSE come about?
CH: As an actress, I wear a lot of makeup and false lashes, which took a toll on my lashes. So when LATISSE® (bimatoprost ophthalmic solution) 0.03% was approved by the FDA as the first and only prescription treatment for inadequate or not enough lashes (eyelash hypotrichosis) that grows your own lashes longer, fuller and darker, I was very curious and interested to learn more.

MW: What do you love most about LATTISSE for your lashes?
CH: Of course, that it’s making them grow! I’ve just started to see a little bit of length and am excited to see more. I also like that it provides an option for women who may notice their lashes thinning over time. This is another reason why they may choose to see a doctor about LATISSE®. I might even book my mom an appointment!

MW: What did your role in Mad Men bring to you as actress?
CH: Working on mad men is such a joy. Every single person that works on that show is so talented and it’s an honor to go to work every day.

MW: What’s your philosophy about beauty?
CH: It’s important to have healthy, good-looking skin. I’m very fair so I take special care of my skin by applying sunscreen daily, not only on my face but also on my arms and chest.

MW: Who & what inspires you?
CH: My husband inspires me every day.

MW: Aside from LATTISEE for your lashes what are some of your other best kept beauty secrets or rituals?
CH: In the morning, when I feel I need a little pick-me-up, I sweep on my favorite cream-based blush and it instantly wakes up my face and I feel just the right amount of pretty! For the perfect shade of lips, I use Dolce and Gabbana classic cream lipstick in “cosmopolitan.” It’s a vibrant coral color – perfect for spring and summer.

MW: What one or two things some people may not know about Christian Hendricks?
CH: I love to sing and dance! I was a dancer for years. I recently got to go back to theatre while performing COMPANY with the NY Phil at Lincoln Center. It was so fun.

MW: What’s next for Christina Hendricks?
CH: I go back to work on “Mad Men” soon which I’m super excited about. I also have two movies coming out in September. A comedy called, I Don’t Know How She Does It and an action drama called Drive.

Jillian Dempsey seems to have the best job in the world. She is a top Celebrity Makeup Artist and AVON’s Global Creative Color Director a position she took since 2006. She is married to actor Patrick Dempsey so the mystique about Jillian for me is major. I feel she adds greatly to AVON’s makeup collections bringing to us beautiful makeup inspired by her work with Hollywood celebrities and fashion. Yesterday I was given an amazing chance to get to ask Mrs Demspsey some questions about the latest from Jillian Dempsey for AVON makeup line and AVON’s Spring/Summer 2011 makeup and AVON’s Bridal makeup looks. BTW Did you know lipstick is the best seller product at AVON and AVON just turned 125 years and their moto is all about INNOVATION.

Marta Walsh: As Avon Global Creative Color Director how do you go about deciding which products are worth creating or re-creating for example the NEW Jillian Dempsey For AVON professional corrector palette and Jillian Dempsey For AVON professional eye smokifier?
Jillian Dempsey: It’s a combination of understanding the latest technologies, what women want, and my experience as a Makeup Artist. This how we come out with the latest and greatest products for AVON.

MW: Which makeup look never go out of style?
JD: The smoky eye and the different variations of it.

Marta Walsh says: “I’m so glad to hear this because I love smoky eye and I wear it almost everyday. It’s called beauty addiction. I say don’t be afraid of smoky eye at any age and sounds like Jillian Dempsey approves.”

You have interviewed a lot of great celebs. Who was your favorite interview of all time?

This is quite a difficult question. The whole experience of connecting over the phone with the celebrity and learning about them is very fascinating to me. So, I enjoyed them all: Khloe Kardashian, Kourtney Kardashian, Audrina Patridge, Jay Manuel, Giuliana Rancic, Vanessa Williams, Kendra Wilkinson, Bethenny Frankel, Natasha Bedingfield and Heidi Klum, just to name a few. Last Thursday, April 21st, 2011, I was invited to drybar VIP opening party at Scottsdale Quarter in Scottsdale Arizona. Now, there was a lot of hoopla going on about a ‘possible appearance’ at that same venue of the rumored Bravo’s NEW Real Housewives of Scottsdale. But, sorry Scottsdale, I was the only Scottsdale Housewives there, and no, I’m not married to a former Phoenix Athlete. Yes, and no video cameras either.

Nonetheless, I had an amazing time at the drybar VIP party which was well done & organized. Fancy & yummy appetizers & h’orderves like chilled gazpacho shooters and Champagne were served. And I didn’t refuse to be photographed for Arizona Foothills Magazine. Why not. I was dressed up with my black BEBE dress and was ready to show off:)

Just in case you noticed my hair. That morning I had a blow out at the drybar in Scottsdale Quarter by a fabulous hair stylist called Tana. She really listen to me and gave me the hairstyle I wanted. Hair parted in the middle and a very smooth & sleek Manhattan style blow out (it’s on the menu I promise). I was serve cucumber water, watched a chick’s flick with Jennifer Aniston & Ben Affleck and even got my iphone charged in a special station all while I was sitting and getting my hair done. For $35 a blow out and an excellent service you can’t go wrong with drybar. When I began blogging about 5 years ago now I wanted to interview Ted Gibson of the Ted Gibson Salon. For some reason it never happened. However, to my luck, years later I managed to meet Mr Ted Gibson at his hair care product launch & Vanity Fair party in New York City. Sweet destiny. Moreover, over these years during my visits to New York Fashion Week I got to know his partner, Celebrity Colorist, and co-owner of Ted Gibson Salon Jason Backe. This duo is the Rock Stars of hair styling, coloring, and hair salon business. Few weeks ago Jason and I met in Phoenix at Sanctuary Camelback Mountain Resort & Spa one of my favorite places in the world where we got to catch up on life and business. I would like to share with you my Q&A slash interview with the fabulous Mr Backe.

Marta Walsh: Where do you call home?
Jason Backe: I am a native Minnesotan – a good Midwestern boy – but now I call New York City home. When did your fascination with hair and hair styling begin? I have loved it my whole life, my mom recently gave me a picture of me giving my younger sister a perm when I was about 7 years old. I didn’t make it a career until about 15 years ago.

MW: At one point did you realize that you are no longer just any hair colorist but a top colorist?
JB: Hmmm, that’s a good question. I think I started realizing it when I started getting recognized by the top magazines.

MW: What do you attribute to your success?
JB: I love what I do, I say yes to just about everything and Im not afraid of hard work.

MW: How did your partnership with Ted Gibson come about and what makes it work?
JB: Ted was my teacher in beauty school – trust me I have now heard every “hot for teacher” joke in the world. We work well together because he is a visionary and great at coming up with concepts and ideas and I learn from him every day. I balance that out by loving the routine of day to day business. He comes up with the ideas and I come up with systems to help implement them.

MW: What was your experience like having a part in the hit Bravo realty series Real Housewives of DC?
JB: It was a lot of fun. I made some wonderful friends and got the opportunity to see first hand how those things are made. It was a pretty outrageous experience.

MW: Who would be your dream housewife to style hair?
JB: My mom and sister – although they are both career women too

MW: What makes Ted Gibson Salon in New York City stand out from the rest?

JB: We have a few things that are our business code –

1. we only work with nice people we like

2. we know that beauty is individual – that there isn’t one standard of beauty. We know if you feel pretty, you are pretty and our job is to make the girls feel pretty

3. It’s not about the hair, it’s about the experience. People come into our salon EXPECTING beautiful hair, they aren’t necessarily expecting to be treated nicely – high end salons have a reputation for being snobby. In order to be successful in NYC the women have to love being at our salon and want to come back.

MW: What are your 3 most important hair coloring tips?
JB: Find a hair dresser you love and be loyal, through that relationship you can have someone who encourages you to try new things and see your beauty in a way you didn’t think was possible. Visit the salon regularly so your hair always looks amazing (letting it go too long can make you look cheap – hehe). Change it up – try new colors and new styles, your hair is your biggest accessory not a tattoo – its fun to try new thing.

MW: And what 3 hair care products or tools you just can’t leave without?

JB: 1. INOA – the new ammonia free permanent hair color from L’Oreal Professionnel. It is the most revolutionary hair color to come out since hair color was invented 100 years ago.

2. Bleach – it is the most versatile tool as a colorist (if I was trapped on a deserted island with 100 pageant queens and could have one product this would be it!) – Unfortunately it is also the most misused product so it gets a bad reputation.

3. Fibersutics – an incredible new in salon deep conditioning treatment. It only takes a few minutes and literally REBUILDS the hair that has become damaged.

MW: What and who inspires you?
JB: I am inspired by so many different things – I was at a meeting the other day and was thinking about Dr Seuss and Whoville and how that would work in hair color! I also love the city I live in and it feeds me energetically, spiritually and creatively every day. I also have to get away, going to my house in the Catskills of Upstate New York really inspires me. My staff inspires me – their eagerness to be the best in the business inspires me every day to be the best I can be.

MW: Brad Pitt or George Clooney?
JB: Ted Gibson

MW: What beauty means to you?
JB: For me, beauty is all encompassing – a well balanced lifestyle, staying fit, eating good food, playing outside – hiking, camping, travel, etc. All of those things make me feel beautiful. When I feel beautiful I know I am beautiful.

MW: What one or two things some people may not know about Jason Backe?
JB: I love to go to the barber for a shave and my skin always looks its best when I use the shower gel at the gym.

MW: What is your favorite drink?
JB: A Hendricks Gin martini with a slice of cucumber to garnish.

MW: What new and next with Jason Backe?
JB: We are opening a salon at the W Hotel in Ft. Lauderdale Florida – that’s new… Next? I’m open….we’ll see.

I’m super excited to share with you my interview with Sports Illustrated Swim and Victoria’s Secret model, Jessica Pérez. Jessica is one of eight young models competing in the international Sports Illustrated 2011 Model Search and has been in the lead with more than double the votes until today. The winner is guaranteed a spot in the 2012 swimsuit edition! Jessica is from Costa Rica, and has lived in Ecuador and Honduras, before moving to the US. Jessica comes across as a very smart young lady with an incredible sense of humor and passion for life. Add all these to her stunning looks makes a perfect receipt for a rising star.

Marta Walsh: Where do you call home?
Jessica Pérez: Hmm… that’s always a tough question for me because my parents live in Ecuador so that’s where the house that I call ‘home’ is, but I feel that Costa Rica as a country is my ‘home.’ I also feel New York is home since this is where I have my apartment.

MW: How did you get into modeling?
JP: I was shopping in Soho with a friend and we were standing outside of H&M when Calvin Wilson, who used to work at Trump Model Management, approached me and told me he thought Trump Models would really like me.

MW: How did your participation in the International Sports Illustrated 201 Model Search come about? Which other exciting modeling projects are you working on?
JP: I was on a job for Victoria’s Secret shooting with Walter Chin and he told me that he also worked with Sports Illustrated a lot. He thought I was an ideal girl for them, so he called SI and told them about me. A couple months later, SI called my agency asking to meet me in person and a few months after that, casting asked me to participate in this contest.

MW: What advice can you give anyone interested in pursuing a career in modeling?
JP: I have a lot of advice! First is to take your job seriously and act professionally. Also, treat modeling not only as your career, but as your business–know what’s going on with your finances at all times and be good about saving money when you can. Oh, and at least try to finish high school before pursuing it. Having an education will only make you smarter about your career.

MW: What does it really take to make it as a supermodel?
JP: I think it takes a lot of dedication, hard work, calculated decisions, and a passion for being in front of the camera.

MW: What’s in your makeup bag (makeup and skincare & other)?

JP: Some people are shoe people, others are bag people, I am a cosmetics queen! I absolutely LOVE cosmetics.

Ok, so here are some of my favorite things:

Kerastase Nutritive Gloss for the hair: I love the smell of Kerastase products and I find most of them to be light on the hair but still work really well.

Bioderma makeup remover: This is great for your skin; it doesn’t dry it out at all and really removes all the makeup from your pores.

Replenix CF serum: I use this at night; it’s supposed to help with rejuvenating skin.

Aveeno SP15/Oil of Olay SPF15: I always use a daily moisturizer with SPF 15 to delay wrinkles!

Laura Mercier concealer: I think this is one of the best brands for concealers/foundations.

NARS The Multiple: I love products that have more than one use; I use this as a blush, lipstick, and sometimes as an eye shadow.

Palmer’s Cocoa Butter: This is great for the body, it leaves your skin looking and feeling moist but not greasy.

Clean & Clear acne wash: I use this every day in the shower to help prevent breakouts.

I could probably go on forever so I’ll stop for now!

MW: What does beauty means to you?
JP: Beauty means feeling good about yourself, having confidence, and being good to other people. I think from modeling I’ve learned that an attractive person can suddenly look so ugly to you if their personality or the way they treat other people isn’t pretty.

MW: Who are your favorite designers and how would you describe your style?
JP: I love VPL, Marc Jacobs, Catherine Malandrino, and Chloe. I think my style is very low-key, casual, and a little bohemian. I like bright colors and colorful patterns a lot.

MW: How do you really keep in shape?
JP: I work out mostly with my personal trainer Justin Gelband and I also do yoga and I run. Mato Novakovik, another trainer of mine, taught me to like running, which I thought would never happen!

MW: Which movie you’ve ever watched on a date?
JP: Be Kind Rewind—I had a really good feeling while watching this movie and it made me laugh so it was a good one for a date.

MW: Madonna or Lady Gaga?
JP: Madonna hands down—I grew up listening to Madonna.

MW: What one or two things some people may not know about Jessica Perez?
JP: I felt really unattractive for most of my youth and I used to be debilitatingly shy as a kid…I think my parents still can’t really believe how I turned out. Also, I still don’t know how to drive a car!

MW: What and who inspires you in life?
JP: My parents! They are such hard workers and honest people, they are also incredibly intelligent but enjoy life so much. They both have a lot of energy and seem a lot younger than they are; they like to have FUN and I admire that.

MW: What’s next for Jessica Perez?
JP: Oooohhh!! I’m not sure, I guess I’ll have to be patient and wait and see?! I have recently been exploring the acting world a bit so I’m curious to see how far I can take that. As far as the modeling though, I hope to continue working a lot and traveling and becoming a better person and model.

Known as “The Body”, nickname she shares with fellow models Elle McPherson and Gisele Bündchen, Michelle Alves could also be called the ultimate “Cover Girl” just as well. With over 100 magazine covers to her credit over the course of her career, including titles such as Vogue, Elle, L’Officiel, French, Marie Claire, Esquire and Bazaar of all four corners of the world and editorials for the best fashion magazines of the industry, like I-D, Numéro, 10, POP, Flair, V, V Man and W; Michelle has become a true fashion chame- leon.

Marta Walsh: Where do you call home?

Michelle Alves: Los Angeles, CA .

MW: How did you get into modeling?
MA: I was extremely shy when I was younger, but my parents entered me in a contest. I won!

MW: What were some of your most memorable modeling and fashion collaborations so far?
MA: Some of my most memorable modeling moments and fashion collaborations thus far were the Ralph Lauren, Armani, Michael Kors, Valentino (shot by Steven Meisiel) and YSL Cinema Perfume campaigns. Getting the cover of Italian Vogue, opening a Dior show, and the first campaign for H&M in the US were also major highlights of my career. It’s hard to pick only one, as I feel they are all so relevant.

MW: What advice can you give anyone interested in pursuing a career in modeling?
MA: Go the best agencies, hire a good accountant, work hard, and most importantly, have fun.

MW: What does it really take to make it as a supermodel?
MA: To really make it as a supermodel, it takes determination, desire, looks, personality and luck.

MW: What’s in your makeup bag?
MA: My makeup bag always has an eyelash curler from Shu Uemura, Dior gloss and mascara, Laura Mercier concealer, Guerlain bronzing powder and a pink blush from MAC.

MW: What are some of your favorite ways and products to care for your skin?
MA: I try to get facials once or twice a month using more natural products. I use a daily serum, gel and moisturizer from Terri Lawton and I make sure to never sleep with make up on.

MW: Who are your favorite designers and how would you describe your style?
MA: My favorite designers are Stella McCartney, Osklen, Zero, Ricky Owens, and John Galliano. I think my style is chic, sexy, and cool.

MW: How do you really keep in shape?
MA: I’ve been really into Pilates lately and I never eat too much.

MW: Best movie you’ve ever watched on a date?
MA: The Woody Allen movie, Everyone Says I love You.

MW: Madonna or Lady Gaga?
MA: Madonna.

MW: What one or two things some people may not know about Michelle Alves?
MA: I was a state champion Karate athlete and was a nerd who went to engineering school.

MW: What and who inspires you in life?
MA: Women with courage inspire me. The whole situation in the Arab world is truly inspiring to me now.

MW: What’s next for Michelle Alves?
MA: I want to be one of those women with courage and create change around me!

I’m super excited to interview for the second time the ever so gorgeous supermodel and business woman Molly Sims. My first interview with Molly was in April 2010. Molly is the creator of an exquisite jewelery collection called  Grayce by Molly Sims which consists of timeless classic jewelry pieces without breaking the bank. Marta Walsh: Are you planning to be home for the holidays?

Molly Sims: I will be in Miami with my family. My brother had a baby so we decided to have Christmas there every year until I have children of my own.

MW: What’s your favorite part of Christmas and the holiday season? What are some of your rituals?
MS: My favorite part of Christmas and the holiday season is being with my family and friends. My mom and I always make red velvet cake and Christmas cookies and she always ends up yelling at me when I make the cake wrong.

MW: What are some of your most fond Christmas memories from your childhood?
MS: When my brother and I were younger we each got to open one present on Christmas Eve. My brother is older and I remember how he would wait at the top of the stairs from 2AM-5AM every year and he would threaten me that if I snuck down early I would get switches in my stocking.

MW: What was the inspiration behind the new Grayce by Molly Sims jewelry items you’ve created for this holiday season?
MS: It is an ode to deco, the past and the future. I loved the use of black and crystals for this collection.

MW: Which item from the new Grayce by Molly Sims holiday jewelry collection is a must-have?
MS: The Multi Strand Chain and Crystal Necklace (graycebymollysims.com) is amazing because you can wear it on its own, but it also looks great layered with longer and shorter statement pieces. It is effortless and so versatile.

MW: What makes your jewelry line Grayce By Molly Sims different than others?
MS: These are pieces that you will have in your wardrobe forever. They are timeless pieces that reflect both the elegance of the past and something modern for the future.

MW: Why did you decide to design jewelry. Where did your passion for jewelry design come from?
MS: The reason I decided to design my own jewelry line was because my mother collected jewelry for the past 30 years. When I first started modeling and acting, I kind of got known for wearing her vintage pieces on the red carpet, at shoots and in everyday life, so it just seemed like the right thing to do. I love it and it’s a passion I have had for the past ten years. I feel that jewelry can change a look just as much as clothing can. I build looks around jewelry instead of clothing dictating the look.

MW: What advice can you give us on how to wear our jewelry this holiday season and have all eyes on us?
MS: It’s all about jewelry sets this year. I have a piece in my HSN line, the Cyrstal Cross Pendant with Crystal Station Necklace. You can wear it a myriad of different ways. The necklace can be worn as a bracelet or you can add charms to it. What’s great about it is that it has a gorgeous sparkle for the holidays.

MW: Aside from your fabulous jewelry creations what’s one thing in your makeup bag?
MS: I love Laura Mercier Translucent Powder.

MW: What advice can you give anyone who is aspiring to become supermodels and survive the industry like you did so brilliantly?
MS: I would tell them to stay focused, find a great agent and have great people surrounding you. Also, never take no for an answer.

MW: How would you describe your style?
MS: My style is usually one of the four “Grayce girls”: Gypset/Bohemian, City Sophisticate, Glamour Girl, or All-American. I am always mixing and matching. I will never be too trendy, always classic. Fashion gives you the ability to play dress up.

MW: What’s next for Molly Sims?
MS: I am hoping to get back into TV next year, just trying to find the right comedy project.
