Absinthe can be purchased in the US now but it isn’t the same product that they sell in Europe. And yes it was not available in the US legally for a long time. In Slovakia and the Czech Republic Absinthe is still sold in varying degrees. Be very careful because the “green fairy” hangover can make you do and see strange things. This was the drink of choice for Vincent Van Gogh and you know what happened to him, he cut his ear off or so the legend goes.
