Here are some highlights from an interview with celebrity makeup artist Joanna Schlip by Beauty Interviews.  In case you didn’t know, Joanna Schlip has made up some of the most famous faces in Hollywood.  Hillary Duff, Scarlet Johansson, Jessica Simpson, Eva Langoria and the list goes on.  In this interview Joanna talks about how her fascination with makeup begin and her experience as one of the most sought after makeup artists in the industry.

 

 

When did your love for makeup begin and how did you end up as a world-renowned makeup artist?
My love for make-up began at age 9 and my professional career started at age 18 when I moved myself to Paris to become a professional make-up artist.

In September 2006 your first book Glamour Gurlz was published. What topics does this book cover?
It’s an amazing step-by-step modern make-up manual with tips focusing on young women/young Hollywood and it’s filled with inspirational messages I wish I would have heard at that age written in their language.

You have worked with many celebrities such as Eva Longoria, Scarlett Johansson, Hilary Duff, Sheryl Crow, Jessica Simpson, Sophia Bush, and more. Who would you love to work with in the future?
I feel blessed to have worked with so many beautiful faces, but I have never done Nicole Kidman’s face and I would love to work with her. And who wouldn’t want to work with the iconic face of Sophia Loren.

What is your favorite type of makeup assignment; editorial, celebrities, fashions shows, print, or commercials?
I love them all and that’s the reason I’m a freelance make-up artist. To be locked into one genre would be too monotonous for me however, my specialty is beauty where make-up is the focus (commercials, print, editorials), it’s my absolute favorite.

You are a makeup artist for Physicians Formula, what makes their makeup special?
They’ve been around for 70 years, which makes then a very reputable company and the fact that they offer high quality products in an affordable price range. They have an extremely high standard for the ingredients they use in their products and I am proud to associate my name with theirs.
