<title>Aveda Does Rocker Chic Hair for Jimmy Choo for H&amp;M Launch Party</title>
<description>I can't wait to get my hands on the new Jimmy Choo for H&#38;M shoe collection! Did you know that Aveda did the Rocker Chic hair for Jimmy Choo for H&#38;M launch party? Talking Makeup has the scoop on how you can get the look at home.

Show: JIMMY CHOO FOR H&#38;M
Lead Hair: Ginger Boyle for Aveda, Planet Salon, Beverly Hills, CA
The Look: The look is very rock and roll—edgy and imperfect with thick, ruffled texture. A new flat-iron technique creates square-shaped waves for easy, rocker chic style.

Get the Look/Step-by-Step:

Step 1: Separate hair into top and bottom sections, creating a horizontal line from ear to ear. Further divide the top section into two to three layers, depending on the amount of hair. Twist and secure each layer at the top of the head with a hair clip.

Step 2: Spray bottom section of hair with Aveda Air Control Hair Spray for shine and workable hold.

Step 3: Beginning with the bottom section of hair and working in one-inch sections, flat-iron hair beginning at the roots, and stopping about one to two inches from ends. Wrap the closed flat-iron around straightened hair as if using a curling iron. Repeat throughout bottom section of hair, alternating the direction of the curl with each piece.

Step 4: Wrap waves three at a time into loose braids and wind into rosettes. Secure loosely against the head with clips, helping to set the curls.

Step 5: Repeat steps with additional layers of hair, moving upwards and leaving the top layer untouched.

Step 6: Release remaining top section of hair from clip and create a middle part from forehead to crown.

Step 7: Separate two-inch long pieces of hair along the middle part. Hold sections vertically between two fingers and backcomb the bottom two inches of hair, closest to the root. Flat-iron each backcombed portion to set texture and enhance volume.

Step 8: Once all hair in the top layer has been backcombed and set with the flat-iron, gently comb the entire section of hair away from the face. Be careful not to comb out volume created at the roots.

Step 9: Remove all hair clips, letting rosettes fall, and roughly rake fingers throughout to loosen waves. Spray Aveda Volumizing Tonic throughout to amplify volume.

Step 10: Finish the look by creating a subtle side part. Lightly sprinkle Aveda Pure Abundance Hair Potion throughout the roots and massage into scalp for added volume and matte texture.

Aveda Products Used:
Aveda Air Control Hair Spray
Aveda Volumizing Tonic
Aveda Pure Abundance Hair Potion

Ginger Boyle Quotes:

Q: What was your inspiration for this look? How did you collaborate with the designer to create the look?
“Jimmy and I sought to create a hair look inspired by the feeling you get when putting on a Jimmy Choo shoe: you just melt into it. The look is organic and naturally flowing, yet sexy, edgy and tousled.”

Q: How could a woman achieve this look on her own?
“This look is sexy and easy to recreate for day or evening wear. Prep hair with Aveda Volumizing Tonic for volume and flexibility. Working in one-inch sections, curl hair around a closed flat-or-curling iron, twisting and securing each curl atop the head with large hair clips. Remove all clips and sprinkle Aveda Pure Abundance Hair Potion at the root, massaging into the scalp for added volume and matte texture. To finish the look, rake fingers through hair and mist with Aveda Air Control Hair Spray for volume and hold.”

<title>Estée Lauder Brand Signs Tom Pecheux</title>
<description>The flagship brand of The Estée Lauder Companies, Inc., today named world-renowned makeup artist Tom Pecheux Creative Makeup Director. A favorite of top photographers, stylists and fashion editors around the world for his sophisticated take on Parisian glamour, Pecheux will work closely with the Estée Lauder brand to help set artistic direction for the next generation of Estée Lauder makeup and communicate his point of view on modern beauty to consumers, press and fashion and beauty influencers.

Tom Pecheux

We are incredibly excited to partner with Tom Pecheux," said Jane Hertzmark Hudis, Global Brand President, Estee Lauder. "Tom will add a new energy, style and fashion edge to Estee Lauder makeup. His intuitive sense of color and expertise in global beauty trends will help us redefine modern color in a bold new way." Beginning in Spring 2010, new, high-impact color products influenced by Pecheux will appear at Estee Lauder counters. Pecheux's makeup artistry will be featured in new advertising campaigns with Estee Lauder model Hilary Rhoda.

Pecheux began his career three decades ago by assisting the legendary makeup artist Linda Cantello but it was through his close creative relationships with Mario Testino and Carine Roitfeld at the start of the 1990s that Pecheux established himself as a leading force in makeup. Philosophically, Pecheux believes that make-up should flatter rather than conceal or embellish.

"It's a great privilege to work with the Estee Lauder brand," said Pecheux. "We are both dedicated to making women look and feel beautiful. I know this will be a great creative partnership." Throughout his career, Pecheux has consistently worked with the finest fashion photographers, including Mario Testino, Patrick Demarchelier, Craig McDean, Peter Lindbergh, and Inez Van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin. He has also created striking runway looks for leading fashion houses including Marni, Ralph Lauren, Derek Lam, Givenchy, Balmain, Yves Saint Laurent and Jean-Paul Gaultier.

Pecheux is a regular contributor to top fashion magazines, including Vogue (Italy, Paris and U.S. editions), Vanity Fair and V magazine. He has also created memorable advertising campaigns for Michael Kors, Burberry, Gucci, Dolce &#38; Gabbana, Versace, Givenchy, Balmain and Yves Saint Laurent.

<title>Beauty Tips &amp; Secrets From Fashion Designer Rachel Roy</title>
<description>Designer Rachel Roy has built a following for not only her beautiful designer and diffusion collections (Rachel &#124; Rachel Roy is available in Macy’s stores across the U.S. and on RachelRoy.com) but also her amazing personal style and beauty. Talking Makeup has the scoop on how Rachel expresses her Indian ancestry through her makeup, and as well as her personal tricks to looking bright, fresh and flawless.

BTW- I loved watching Rachel Roy in one of the episodes of MTV's The City. Are you also a fan?

Q. Have you picked up any great beauty tips or tricks that you can share?
RR: I feel a great mascara can open the eye and instantly make you look as though you’ve have a good night’s sleep, even when that is not the case. I use 2-3 coats of Lancome’s Fatale on the top, bottom, and also on the back of the top lashes.

Q. Do you have a beauty signature? A fragrance or a lip color that you just love to wear?
RR: Because of my Indian ancestry, I love darkly rimmed eyes – a messy eye adds a sexy yet natural look to a classic outfit. To make the eyes smoky, I use Revlon’s Luxurious Color Kohl eyeliner in Black Truffle on the inside of the lids.

Q: What about a lip color that you just love to wear? What do you put on to achieve your favorite look?
RR: Bright lipstick is a way to quickly pop an outfit and freshen up a look a la Ava Gardner in “The Barefoot Contessa.” My favorite bright is MAC’s Morange lipstick – it’s a great way to add a twist to a classic look.

Q. Any last bits of advice?
RR: Another way to make your face pop is to fill in the eyebrows. I use Bobbi Brown’s eye shadow in Navajo.

<title>Blake Lively at the CHANEL Fine Jewelry &#8220;Fête d&#8217;Hiver&#8221; Benefit: Get The Look</title>
<description>Blake Lively was wearing CHANEL Beauté at the CHANEL Fine Jewelry "Fête d'Hiver" Benefit, Wednesday, November 4, 2009, New York, NY.

How to get Blake Lively's makeup look by Makeup Artist Angela Levin:

Beauty Inspiration: "I was inspired by Blake's stunning CHANEL diamond camelia brooch. I wanted her eyes to be dark and sexy, but the rest of her face to be light and fresh. She's young and sexy and wears a smoky eye so well!"

Beauty Tips: "I used CHANEL Lift Lumiere Fluid Makeup in Beige all over her face, and set it with CHANEL Poudre Cristalline Translucent Powder. On her cheeks I dusted on CHANEL Blush Duo in Tweed Rose.

For her eyes I used the bronze and sand shades from the CHANEL Quadra Eye Shadow in Variations, and CHANEL Soft Touch Eyeshadow in Magic Night, a deep plum shade, to add dimension in the crease. I lined the upper and lower lashes with CHANEL  in Black Shimmer. I finished the eyes with three coats of CHANEL Inimitable Mascara in Noir-Black.

Finally, I created a soft pink lip with CHANEL Rouge Allure in Mythic, a perfect nude shade, topped with a bit of CHANEL Rouge Allure Laque in Ming."

<title>Carol Alt Interviews With Marta Walsh</title>
<description>I'm so excited to share with you my interview with one of the greatest supermodels of all time, Carol Alt. Any of you remember Carol featured on the cover of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue in 1982? I was too young to remember but I do know I really loved her at NBC's 2008 The Celebrity Apprentice, with Donald Trump. On that show, Carol came across as not only a very beautiful woman but also very smart one. A type of woman I look up to.  Carol is all about raw food and has a great book about the raw food lifestyle called: the Raw 50 (with David Roth forwarded by Nicholas J. Gonzalez, M.D.) I'm also very excited to let you know about Carol's skincare line called: RAW Essentials [1].

If you are into green and clean skincare products you might want to learn more about Carol's skincare line. I personally love the RAW Essentials Raw-finish Rigorous Face Scrub, RAW Eeentials Raw-juvenate Eye Recoup, and RAW VITA Eye Serum (image below).

In this interview Carol Alt talks about how did it all begin for her in the modeling world and some of her most memorable moments of her career. What led her create RAW Essentials and what makes it different than the rest. Gives advice to anyone interested in a RAW lifestyle and RAW food diet. Reveals what's in her makeup bag. Gives word of wisdom to aspiring supermodels. And future plans.

Marta Walsh: Your career as a supermodel and actress is undeniably impressive. How did it all begin? What were some of your most memorable moments of your career?
Carol Alt: Oddly, my career kicked off right after a breakup with a boyfriend at the time! I was spotted waiting tables during my freshman year at Hofstra University, where I was enrolled in Army ROTC. The modeling opportunity was the perfect excuse to get off of Long Island and embark on an adventure.

I had always been raised to rely on my brains, not my looks, so my parents were skeptical at first. My mother had been a model and always placed a high premium on my education. They made me promise that I’d go back to school – but once that first check from Elite came, I made the decision not to go back. Things really took off in an incredible way.

The modeling profession offers you so much. It’s really what you make of it! It’s so hard to choose just a few moments. From doing the Sports Illustrated Winter Issue to shoots in Africa to shoots on Mount McKinley in Alaska – there have been so many!

MW: What drove you to create your own skincare line: RAW Essentials?
CA: Necessity is the mother of invention. No one had a clean skincare line without chemicals. I made the decision to live the cleanest life I possibly could and to function in as clean an environment as possible. That includes what I’m putting in my body and what I’m putting on it. RAW Essentials grew out of my desire for a pure, results oriented skincare line that I could use every day.

MW: What makes RAW Essentials skincare different?
CA: We don’t fib! When you see a RAW Essentials label you know you’re getting exactly what we promise – pure, effective products, made without synthetic chemicals.

MW: Which products from RAW Essentials you just can’t live without?
CA: The Raw-covery Facial Revive Wash, Raw-vitalize Anti-Aging Night Face Cream, and Raw Vita Eye Serum. The eye serum is Vitamin A packed, which is basically a natural form of Retin A. It’s so incredible, I can actually feel it working as soon as I put it on. I use the night cream during the day for extra moisture – my skin loves it.

From left: The Raw-covery Facial Revive Wash, Raw-vitalize Anti-Aging Night Face Cream

MW: Which new RAW Essentials products are you inspired to develop in the future?
CA: I’d love to have a glycolic wash – we’re working on it, but again, the challenge is that it has to be raw, has to be cold-pressed to pass the test. It has to meet the standard of being raw and also delivering superior results, just like the rest of our products.

MW: What advice can you give to anyone interested in a RAW lifestyle and diet?
CA: Start slowly! And, make a list of your favorite foods and look for what I like to call “raw cousins” – keep an eye out for products labeled unpasteurized, dried, cold-pressed. I love brands like One Lucky Duck and Good Stuff by Mom and Me. They both have delicious raw snacks.

MW: What can we find in your makeup bag?
CA: Because I travel so much, I have a toiletry kit permanently packed. You’ll find:

Head pHirst Shampoo and Conditioners
Jason Organics Toothpaste
LuMESH Lip Gloss – so moisturizing and it lasts!
Ready to Wear Mascara – doesn’t smudge, but comes right off when you’re ready!
RAW Essentials Raw-covery Facial Revive Wash, Raw-vitalize Anti-Aging Night Face Cream, Raw Vita Eye Serum, and Raw-fresh Facial Toner.

MW: What advice can you give to young girls who aspire to be supermodels?
CA: Eat well and take good care of yourself. I wish someone had told me that earlier! I realize now that I could be healthy, look fabulous, and have incredible energy by eating raw, rather than depriving myself of anything.

MW: What is your philosophy about beauty?
CA: Keep it as clean as possible – both in terms of the formulations of the products I use, but also in the overall look. I’m pretty much a lip gloss and mascara kind of girl. Clean, simple, pure.

MW: What is your favorite: city, movie, and restaurant?
CA: Rome – The architecture, the color of the air and the sky. It really has it’s own special kind of light. Plus, it’s so easy to eat raw there!

I just saw The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and it had a real impact on me, something about the cycle of life being the same whether done forward or in reverse really struck a chord.

For raw restaurants, I love Pure Food &#38; Wine in NYC. I also love sushi – there are just so many options.

MW: What one or two things some people may not know about Carol Alt?
CA: I’m an intensely spiritual person, that’s probably a little known fact. And, that my work is my passion and my hobby all rolled into one. I genuinely love what I do.

MW: What is next for Carol Alt?
CA: I am focusing a lot on RAW Essentials and on expanding the line into makeup and hair care – I want a complete line to address all beauty needs. I also love producing and I’m eager to do more of that. Generally, I’m someone who really “meets the moment.” I’m constantly moving forward and changing what I do. If I see a need for something, I go to it.
