La Mer Supports Oceana in celebration of 2008 World Ocean Day .
What is Ocean Day? Observed on the eighth of June every year, World Ocean Day is a chance for people around the world to celebrate the beauty and bounty of the oceans and recognize our connection and dependence on them. The holiday is not officially recognized by the United Nations (UN), but over 700 museums, conservation organizations and agencies take it upon themselves to celebrate the holiday and work for its official recognition.
In celebration of La Mer’s sea heritage and dedication to preserving the beauty of the oceans, this month La Mer will donate $100,000 to Oceana to help fund global initiatives and support their mission of ocean conservation.
So this Sunday, June 8th, when you go out to the beach or shopping, don’t forget it’s World Ocean Day. And stop by your local La Mer counter to check out the new Crème de la Mer wrap, which is a special in-store animation designed for World Ocean Day.
Oceana, the largest international ocean advocacy group, is supported by marine scientists, economists, lawyers and advocates worldwide that work strategically to deliver targeted results. Oceana’s lead spokespeople include Ted Danson, Amber Valletta and Sam Waterston. With La Mer’s donation, Oceana will be able to increase research voyages on their Ketch catamaran, Ranger, and better patrol, document, and fight destruction of the ocean’s unique ecosystem.
Since 2005, La Mer has worked with Oceana to help promote their missions. It is an amazing organization that La Mer is incredibly proud to support and increase awareness about.

Huber’s (founder of La Mer) passionate interest in the sea and the brand’s legacy of looking to the ocean for inspiration,” said Maureen Case, President of La Mer. “We are proud to help support their efforts and achievements with this donation and are excited to help them further their research globally towards improving the conditions of the sea.”
“Scientists say that we might only have until mid-century to save the oceans if we continue to overfish and destroy critical ocean habitats at the current rate,” said Andrew Sharpless, CEO of Oceana. “It’s a dismal forecast, but I really believe that we can turn the tide and bring our oceans back if enough people get active and involved. It is no coincidence that a forward-thinking company like La Mer not only understands this point, but is also doing something about it. Oceana is grateful for La Mer’s generous support and is looking forward to getting more done for the oceans as a result.”
Dr. Max Huber, the founder of La Mer and creator of the legendary Crème de la Mer, looked to the sea for inspiration. While researching the sea kelp beds off the coast of Southern California, Dr. Huber developed a deep appreciation for the beauty of the ocean and worked to preserve its health and integrity.
