I can tell you my loves that I didn’t want to miss this invitation to celebrate Betsey Johnson’s Too Too the new fragrance launch in New York City. As a former New Yorker I have a soft sopt for Betsey. I remember window shopping there a lot as NYU student back in the days. Sadly, I couldn’t make it there in a short notice. But, I have all the scoop & I am very excited to share. BTW I’m wearing pink sunglasses today channeling Betsey Johnson or maybe even because it’s my Birthday. ha!

Betsey Johnson Unvails Too Too The Fragrance

NEW YORK- August 9, 2011- American designer and renowned fashion icon Betsey Johnson previewed her new fragrance, Too Too, at MILK Studios on August 9, 2011 from 9am to 11am. The event included a special dance performance from the Stephen Petronio Company and DJ sets from ‘it’ girls Becka Diamond and Chelsea Leyland.  The event also featured dancers from the Bolshoi Ballet Academy, presented by the Russian American Foundation.

Betsey showed up and danced with the ballerinas and in true Betsey Spirit, even slid down into a split to pose with dancers from the Stephen Petronio Company.

Doubling as an early 69th Birthday celebration, guests in attendance sang Betsey “Happy Birthday” and enjoyed mimosas and cupcakes from the Little Cupcake Bakeshop.

Danilo created a beautiful classic body set on Katy, a style that “she always loves so much.” They decided on full waves to complement her strapless Betsey Johnson dress for a “sophisticated, cutie-pie” style for the evening. Katy arrived on the scene with freshly washed, towel-dried hair so Danilo had a clean base for styling.

He first lightly misted her hair with the Pantene Pro-V Fine Hair Heat Protection & Shine Spray to wet and condition, then focused on prepping her roots for the voluminous style by spraying them with the Pantene Pro-V Fine Hair Root Lifter Spray Gel. Danilo then blew her hair out and, once dried, rubbed a small dollop of the Pantene Pro-V Restore Beautiful Lengths Smoothing Balm section-by-section before he applied heat from the curling iron. He used a medium-sized curling iron to set each section and sprayed the Pantene Pro-V Fine Hair Professional Level Style Shaping Hairspray over the set before letting it cool for five minutes. He then released her hair, brushed it gently, and “let her hair fall very full and wavy.” He parted her hair to the side with lift in the front, and left her remaining curls big and loose for the final finish.

The heat was on in Miami both outdoors and on the runway at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim 2011. Rodney Cutler and his team of top-notch stylists from Cutler once again provided the hottest trends to be seen at six of the shows, including Betsey Johnson and White Sands Australia.

Show: Betsey Johnson. The Hairstyle: Edgy and editorial Braids. “The punchy, bright swimwear needed a fun and editorial up-do to go with it,” says Cutler/Redken Stylist Ryan Suhr, the lead stylist for the show.

How To: Hair Tutorial

1. Spray Cutler Volumizing Spray onto damp, clean hair

2. Section hair into two asymmetrical sections, brushing the top half into a tight ponytail at the right recession of the hairline, and repeating at the bottom half by brushing it into a tight ponytail at the bottom left of the nape

3. At the top section, create two fishtail braids, loosening the braids by lightly pulling at the sides, then wrapping the braids around each other and pin, replicating the look of a flower

4. Repeat Step 3 with the bottom section

5. Finish the look with Redken 23 Forceful Super Strength Finishing Spray

Show: White Sands Australia. The Hairstyle: Beach goddess blow out. “To compliment the beautiful, feminine prints, I wanted to give the girls an editorial, edgy look with a classic twist,” says Cutler/Redken Stylist Kelsy Osterman, the lead stylist for the show.

How To: Hair Tutorial

Spray damp hair with Cutler Volumizing Spray, and quick dry product into hair with a blow dryer to create a base of texture

Starting at the nape of the neck, lightly spray Redken 09 Workforce Flexible Volumizing Spray from roots to ends, and gently backcomb each section

Curl each section and set it with a clip, curling all the way up to the head, and repeatingly backcomb closer at the top of the head

Create a center part, leaving no volume at the top

Take out the clips and finger-comb the curls into place

Inspiration: Betsey Johnson’s Fall 2010 beauty look was inspired by the sexy, superstar actresses in the cowgirl “French” western film, Las Petroleras (1971). Betsey’s own gang of bad girls channel Brigitte Bardot’s lust for adventure, exhibiting unassuming sexiness that’s as captivating as it is liberating.

Hair Tutorial:

For a windblown, cowgirl look that’s playful and sexy, Sebastian Professional lead stylist Thomas Dunkin suggests the following steps:

1. Generously spray Sebastian Professional Volupt Spray throughout damp hair for workable volume and texture.

2. Blow dry hair and set it with medium and large-sized Velcro rollers for height and body.

3. Once the hair has cooled, remove the rollers and lightly cover hair with Shaper Zero Gravity to create added texture and separation.

4. Create authentic cowgirl flair by separating hair into two loose, tousled pigtails and decorate them with torn fabric or thin leather ties. Finish with Re-Shaper.

I had the luxury to discover the butter London nail polish collection backstage at Betsey Johnson Spring 2009 Collection. I was in love with the funky shades, particularly the super sparkly butter London in Rosie Lee. What I also noticed that Rosie Lee was layered with other shades, such as: British Racing Green. The overall effect complimented Betsey Johnson’s super funky and playful collection. Other shades include: Minger. Scoundrel. Pearly Queen.

What else: butter LONDON stormed NYC Fashion Week this season (SS 2010), with the introduction of British Racing Green. Hand mixed by their Creative Director Nonie Creme for the Vena Cava show, this shade has already been noticed by Vogue, W Magazine, Lucky, Ladies Home Journal, and Redbook.

Celebrity hair watch: Rihanna Got New Blonde Highlights.

Rihanna seems to not be afraid to try out trends straight off the runways. Rihanna’s very short haircut now gets blonde highlights! It reminds me of the 80′s punk look (George Michael “Wake Me Up Before You GO GO”?). I’ve seen the 80′s inspired look and hairstyles making a comeback backstage at Betsey Johnson Spring 2010, during New York Fashion Week. With 80′s classic music hits playing in the background, I must add. Loved it!!

Rihanna is also sporting a fall makeup trend: dark purple lips.

To get Rihanna’s weightless volume and ‘guts’ to hair try: Aerate 08 bodifying cream-mousse by Redken. I’ve been using this mousse myself for the past week, and it works amazing to tame my very wavy frizz-prone hair, air dried or blow dried. But in his opinion, mousse was the best thing invented for hair. He also said that most people afraid of styling products which shouldn’t be the case.
