As longer days and warm, breezy nights herald the start of summer, Chanel embraces the season and all the vibrant makeup hues it inspires. In the Summer 2012 Collection, SUMMERTIME DE CHANEL, Peter Philips, Creative Director of Chanel Makeup, replicates the natural glow of sunbathed skin with luminous bronze, gold and copper tones. Playing up a radiant complexion: season-perfect lip shades, from fresh pastels to bright corals.

SOLEIL TAN DE CHANEL LUMINOUS BRONZING POWDER

Two bronzers — each comprised of seven unique shades, including a luminous gold — lend subtle hints of warmth and shimmer to every complexion. A soft peach palette brings a fresh glow to lighter skin, while a deeper pink harmony lends radiance to darker tones. Blended together, the shades create a seamless bronzing effect; used on their own, the gold powders illuminate the complexion, while the darker shades sculpt the face when gently swept along its natural contours. $60.00 Limited Edition

TM & Marta Walsh has got the word that celebrity makeup artist Kindra Mann worked with Lea Michelle for the LACOSTE L!VE Desert Pool Party In Celebration Of Coachella on Saturday, April 14th in Thermal, CA. And we have the breakdown on how to get Lea Michelle’s makeup look.

Lea Michelle's makeup look

BEAUTY INSPIRATION

“Lea wanted a fresh, flirty and fun Palm Springs look. We wanted to keep it light since the event was during the day but play up the eyes to give it a bit of a sexy feel.”

HOW TO GET THE LOOK

“I started by prepping her skin with CHANEL Hydramax + Active Serum and Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer with SPF 15. Next I applied Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation in #7.0 and Cle De Peau Concealer in Ocra. I highlighted and bronzed the skin using Hourglass Illume Creme-To-Powder Bronzer and added a pop of color on the cheeks with NARS Orgasm Cream blush Stick. I set everything with Laura Mercier Loose Translucent Powder.

I used CHANEL Sculpting Eyebrow Pencil in Brun Naturel to fill in the brows, giving them a bit of definition and length. For the eyes, I prepped the lid with NARS Eyeshadow Primer and then used Dior ‘5 Couleurs Lift’ Eyeshadow Palette in Amber to create a bronze smokey look. I then lined the top and lower lid with Laura Mercier eyeliner in Bronze and gently buffed it out. I finished it off with Diorshow Mascara, and added some individual lashes to open up the eyes and add a flirty effect. To complete the look and add a fun unexpected color that tied in with her swimsuit I applied CHANEL Rouge Coco Lip Colour in Chalys.”

CHANEL redefines luxury once again with the opening of Espace Parfum within Bloomingdale’s 59th Street flagship store in New York City. The unique retail concept offers an intimate setting for customers to experience an unparalleled level of service as they take an interactive olfactive journey through CHANEL fragrance.

CHANEL ESPACE PARFUM OPENS AT BLOOMINGDALE’S 59th STREET

An olfactory oasis set within a large department store, Espace Parfum invites customers into the world of CHANEL fragrance to indulge in the luxury of a private consultation room devoted to fragrance. Designed by CHANEL Deputy Perfumer Christopher Sheldrake, the Olfactive Bar houses the 51 fragrances that comprise the entire range of CHANEL perfumery including limited-distribution fragrances like the Les Exclusifs collection, as well as Chanel N°5, Coco Mademoiselle and Bleu de CHANEL. “Once again, CHANEL has set a new standard in luxurious experience,” says Howard Kreitzman, Bloomingdale’s VP/DMM of Cosmetics & Fragrances. “We are thrilled to be able to offer our loyal shoppers the opportunity to experience the world of CHANEL fragrance in this extraordinary setting.”

A fragrance expert with extensive CHANEL fragrance training who has spent three weeks at L’Institut Supérieur International du Parfum, the premiere fragrance institute in France, will be on hand every day at Espace Parfum to share stories about the brand’s history, inspiration, raw ingredients and the notes of each fragrance. During client consultations, the expert will use patented ceramic blotters, which capture the essence of each fragrance and help customers determine their perfect scents.

“Since the creation of CHANEL N°5, our preeminence in the world of fragrance can be attributed to our rich heritage of ‘in-house’ master perfumery, and the quality of our laboratories and exclusive sources for raw materials,” says Christine Dagousset, executive vice president, CHANEL Fragrance and Beauté. “As an experience, Espace Parfum reveals a wealth of information about fragrance, about how to wear scent, and about one’s own nature. It is the very quintessence of luxury and is yet another example of how CHANEL continues to be the global leader in fragrance.”

Espace Parfum at Bloomingdales 59th Street is the second Espace to open in the United States, and the 32nd in the world.

True to its origins, EAU EXTRÊME takes its cue from ALLURE HOMME SPORT but has a decidedly more aromatic personality. Launched in 2004, ALLURE HOMME SPORT EAU DE TOILETTE captures all of the elements of a body in motion. In 2012, ALLURE HOMME SPORT is pushing a new boundary with EAU EXTRÊME. With a composition of exhilarating sensations, the new sporty, edgy, avant-garde scent appeals to risk-takers and adrenaline seekers.

CHANEL Allure Homme Sport Eau Extreme

Mint kicks things off from the very first note, along with refreshing of Sicilian Mandarin rind and Moroccan Cypress. The impression is as icy as the chill that runs down the spine just before taking a leap. Discreet but present, Clary Sage adds a touch of warmth, an almost amber plant-like sensuality. While not as spicy as ALLURE HOMME SPORT, the composition nevertheless calls upon Black Pepper from Madagascar, suggesting a muted, rhythmic beat that resonates in the chest. Then comes the big moment: a White Musk accord selected by CHANEL Master Perfumer Jacques Polge for its cottony soft and subtly animal intonations. And above all, the round, almondy note of Tonka Bean is used to create intensity. Cedar, a conserved note from ALLURE HOMME SPORT, plays a supporting role of pure strength in a straight line underscored by milky Sandalwood. One thing is for certain: ALLURE HOMME SPORT EAU EXTRÊME gives a fresh boost on the skin.

To convey the spirit of this new fragrance, CHANEL enlisted the talent of Academy Award-winning director Kathryn Bigelow, known for her realistic take on action. In 2010, she became the first woman to win the Oscar for Best Director for her work on “The Hurt Locker”. Kathryn also directed the surf-themed thriller Point Break in the 1990’s. Shot in Hawaii, the commercial stars Danny Fuller, a professional big-wave surfer who, through his scenes of extreme surfing in the film, embodies the essence of the thrill-seeking, limitless, independent, risk-taking Eau Extrême man.

ALLURE HOMME SPORT EAU EXTRÊME

Suggested retail prices:

Eau de Toilette Concentrée 1.7oz, $62.00

Eau de Toilette Concentrée 3.4oz, $84.00

Available on chanel.com, April 5th

Peter Philips, Creative Director of CHANEL Makeup used the following CHANEL products to create the runway beauty looks for Fall/Winter 2012-13: ”The inspiration for the makeup look came from a few key words and a sketch that Karl Lagerfeld provided: minerals, shading and eyebrows were the key words and the sketch showed a face with stone-lined eyebrows…

CHANEL Makeup

…So the focus is on the eyebrows, which led me to interpret Karl’s drawing and the “mineral” emphasis by creating straight, graphic eyebrows. I worked with the Maison Lesage to create sets of embroidered eyebrows. Each eyebrow consists of an anthracite gray sequins and pearl base, embroidered with several sorts and shades of mineral stones and crystals.

For the makeup in general, I wanted a matte finished skin and used CHANEL’s Mat Lumière foundation. The shading and sculpting of the face was achieved with Ombre Contraste a compact specially created for this show. The compact powder is a lavender/taupe coloured shade called Notorious that I applied to the eyelids and then straight down on the side of the face, in a contouring style. The rest of the face I kept nude, so as to keep the focus on the eyebrows For the nails I chose the new shade of Le Vernis called Frenzy (Fall 2012 Collection), which is totally colour coordinated with Notorious.”

Michelle Williams Makeup Oscars 2012

INSPIRATION

My inspiration was a flower! When I saw Michelle in her stunning dress, it made me think of a beautiful rose I have in my garden. Like that flower, she looked so gorgeous and delicate, so I decided to use an array of Spring hues!

PRODUCTS

Skincare: I began by hydrating her skin with a light layer of CHANEL Sublimage La Creme Texture Supreme ($390.00).

Eye Shadow: Next, I used CHANEL Quadra Eyeshadow in Mystic Eyes ($58.00), using half moon strokes on the lids to maintain a round, soft feeling. For an added pop of glamour, I placed a bit of CHANEL Soft Touch Eye Shadow in Tigerlily ($28.50) on her lids.

Eye Liner: Under the eyes, I used the darkest color, the neutral deep brown with gold flecks shade, from CHANEL Quadra Eyeshadow in Mystic Eyes ($58.00).

Eye Brows: CHANEL Sculpting Eyebrow Pencil in Blond Clair ($29.00).

Foundation: To further enhance Michelle’s already gorgeous skin, I applied CHANEL Vitalumière Aqua Compact ($58.00 – Available March 19 on chanel.com) for a hydrated, flawless, revitalized and radiant look.

Blush: For the cheeks, I applied my favorite new cheek color, Exclusive Creation Blush Horizon de CHANEL ($58.00).

Highlighter: To accentuate the natural contours of Michelle’s face, I lightly added CHANEL Limited Edition Natural Finish Pressed Powder in Jasmin ($45.00) to her cheeks. I also added this to her shoulders for a slight highlight as well.

Mascara: To the top and bottom lashes, I applied two coats of CHANEL Inimitable Mascara in Noir ($30.00).

Lipstick: For Michelle’s bright, purpley-pink lips, I mixed two CHANEL Rouge Coco Shades from CHANEL’s Spring collection: Rouge Coco Lip Colour in Paradis, a pink coral with Rouge Coco Lip Colour in Destineé, a spring plum (each $32.00).

SANDRA BULLOCK ~ MAKEUP BY CHANEL CELEBRITY MAKEUP ARTIST ANGELA LEVIN

Sandra Bullock Makeup Oscars 2012

INSPIRATION Gorgeous in every way!!

PRODUCTS

Skincare: I started by applying a rich dose of CHANEL Sublimage La Creme Texture Supreme ($390.00) to a clean face and let it absorb into the face for about 15 minutes.

Foundation: On her eyes and forehead, I then used a light coat of CHANEL Vitalumière Aqua Compact ($58.00 – Available March 19 on chanel.com).

Blush: For the cheeks I wanted to create a fresh, youthful appearance so I applied Exclusive Creation Blush Horizon de CHANEL ($58.00).

Eye Shadow: On the eyes, I began by applying CHANEL Illusion D’Ombre in Émerveille ($36.00) to her lids lightly with my fingers. I followed by applying all colors from the CHANEL Quadra Eyeshadow in Enigma ($58.00). I used the chocolate grey on the outer part of the lid, the violet grey on the eye crease, the pink under the brow bone and the deep plum to frame the eye across the lash lines.

Eye Liner: To further glamorize her eyes, I lined the upper lash line with CHANEL Intense Eye Pencil in Noir ($28.00).

Mascara: CHANEL Inimitable Mascara in Noir ($30.00).

Lipstick: I finished her look by applying a sumptuous amount of CHANEL Rouge Coco Lip Colour in Mademoiselle ($32.00) topped with CHANEL Glossimer in Braise ($29.50).

GLENN CLOSE ~ MAKEUP BY CELEBRITY MAKEUP ARTIST CATHY HIGHLAND

INSPIRATION

Timeless beauty was the inspiration for Glenn’s Oscar look. With the unique color of her dress, I wanted Glenn’s face to be fresh, but also have enough pop for the cameras on the red carpet and last all evening through the parties following the live telecast. And yes, since it was the special night of the Academy Awards…we all agreed on pure glamour!

PRODUCTS

Skincare: The night before Glenn used CHANEL Sublimage La Creme Texture Supreme ($390.00). Before I applied the makeup, I used CHANEL Hydra Beauty Serum (Available April 2012).

Foundation: I used CHANEL Vitalumière Aqua Ultra-Light Skin Perfecting Makeup SPF 15 ($45.00). It was set and finished off with CHANEL Natural Finish Pressed Powder in Translucent 1 ($45.00).

Blush: CHANEL Powder Blush in In Love ($43.00).

Eye Shadow: I covered the lid with the shimmery CHANEL Illusion D’Ombre in Émerveille ($36.00). I then blended the darker green shadow from CHANEL Quadra Eyeshadow in Lilium ($58.00) up to the crease creating a soft, classic smoky eye.

Eye Brows: CHANEL Sculpting Eyebrow Pencil in Blond Clair ($29.00).

Eye Liner: I used CHANEL Precision Eye Definer in Brun ($29.00). I like to emphasize the lash line with a very fine line of black. My personal trick is using a tiny brush and dipping it into the black waterproof mascara for a ‘stay in place’ application for a long day.

Lipstick: Lastly, I applied CHANEL Rouge Coco Shine Lipshine in Unique ($32.50), a reddish berry pink with gold sparkles.

ANGELINA JOLIE ~ FINGERS & TOES PAINTED BY CELEBRITY MANICURIST EMI KUDO

Angelina Jolie Nails Oscars 2012

INSPIRATION

Classic Hollywood, but with a young and fresh twist to highlight Angelina’s natural beauty.

PRODUCTS

CHANEL Le Vernis in Tendresse ($26.00) on fingers and toes

RED CARPET NAIL TIP

It is important to moisturize the hands. I always mix a formula with a special blend of organic natural oil, butter and organic sugar.

GWYNETH PALTROW ~ FINGERS & TOES PAINTED BY CELEBRITY MANICURIST ASHLIE JOHNSON

Gwyneth Paltrow Nails Oscars 2012

INSPIRATION

The inspiration was just clean and simple like the makeup, it was a very ethereal look due to the dress being clean lines and simple.

PRODUCTS

CHANEL Protective Base Coat ($25.00) on fingers and toes

CHANEL Extreme Shines Nail Lacquer ($25.00) on fingers and toes

KRISTEN WIIG ~ FINGERS & TOES PAINTED BY CELEBRITY MANICURIST ALICIA TORELLO

INSPIRATION

We wanted a clean and chic look, but something unexpected and not traditional. We wanted to do something fun and bold and something that contrasted beautifully with her blush-colored dress.

PRODUCTS

CHANEL Le Vernis in Black Satin ($26.00) on fingers

RED CARPET NAIL TIP

About a week up to the event it’s good to moisturize the hands and oil the cuticles often. When deciding on a polish for a big night out, you can’t really go wrong with any CHANEL color, each one creates a statement because the polish is so bold and unique even if it’s a natural shade.

All products are available on chanel.com

Celebrity Makeup Artists used CHANEL Makeup to create looks for Kate Bosworth and Brit Marling & Celebrity Manicurists applied CHANEL Le Vernis nail colour to Kate Hudson.

Kate Bosworth’s Makeup Oscars 2012

MAKEUP INSPIRATION Kate Bosworth’s Her dress!

PRODUCTS

Skincare: I prepped Kate’s skin with CHANEL Hydra Beauty Serum ($135.00, Available April 2012), then applied a layer of Laura Mercier Iluminizing Face Primer.

Eye Shadow: On her lids I applied CHANEL Soft Touch Eye Shadow in Rose de Mai ($28.50), for a natural, pretty look.

Eye Brows: Her brows were groomed with Anastasia Brow Gel.

Foundation: I used CHANEL Perfection Lumiere Long Wear Flawless Fluid Makeup SPF 10 ($55.00) to perfect Kate’s perfect skin.

Blush: On her cheeks I used CHANEL Powder Blush in Orchid Rose ($43.00), and on the upper planes of her face, cheek bones and bridge I applied CHANEL Poudre Douce Soft Pressed Powder in Rose ($50.00).

Mascara: I curled the lashes with the CHANEL Precision Eyelash Curler ($34.00), better than the best! And completed the eyes with CHANEL Inimitable Mascara in Noir ($30.00), gently brushing through top and bottom lashes.

Lipstick: For Kate’s lips I applied CHANEL Rouge Coco Shine Lipshine in Aventure ($32.00), to finish the look.

BRIT MARLING ~ MAKEUP BY CELEBRITY MAKEUP ARTIST DARLENE JACOBS

Brit Marling Makeup Oscars 2012

The Inspiration for Brit is always Brit herself. We always want to keep her looking true to herself while making sure to compliment the dress. Brit really likes to feel like she looks like herself and doesn’t look made-up or made-over. The most important aspect of achieving this is making sure the skin looks like real skin. A heavy eye or a dark lip always look most beautiful to when the skin looks fresh and authentic.

PRODUCTS

Skincare: I started Brit’s look with CHANEL Purete Ideale Serum ($75.00) on clean skin. This helps keep shine down on the red carpet with all the flashing lights as well as tightens pores so the makeup stays looking fresh throughout the long evening. I followed this with a light moisturizer that I really massaged into the skin. Massage stimulates blood circulation, helps the skin to absorb the benefits of the skincare, warms up the skin for better makeup application, and, perhaps most importantly, relaxes the talent! Protecting the delicate eye area was next with CHANEL Beaute Initiale Eye ($70.00). Because the skin around the eye is thinner than that on the rest of the face it always needs more protection. Beaute Initiale Eye is great because it softens the skin around the eye area allowing for the makeup to glide on rather than pull at the skin. At the same time, it really sinks in and doesn’t leave a film on the eye area that causes concealer to crease or mascara and eyeliner to run. I finished off Brit’s skincare with CHANEL Ultra Correction Lift Plumping Anti-Wrinkle Lips and Contour ($85.00). Soft lips are imperative to a beautiful color application weather you’re using lipliner, lipstick, or gloss. I specifically like Ultra Correction Lift Plumping Anti-Wrinkle Lips and Contour because it absorbs into the lips and keeps color from feathering.

Foundation: After all of the prepping of the Brit’s skin it was ready for CHANEL Perfection Lumiere Long Wear Flawless Fluid Makeup SPF 10 ($55.00) which evened out her skin tone. I initially applied it with a foundation brush to keep the distribution to the areas that needed it most, and followed up by really working in the foundation with my fingers. I find working foundations in with my fingers gives it the most real texture.

Hightlighter: To highlight her skin, I applied CHANEL Limited Edition Natural Finish Pressed Powder in Jasmin ($45.00).

Eye Liner: For Brit’s look I focused on just lining the eyes, using CHANEL Automatic Liquid Eyeliner in Noir ($34.00).

Mascara: To finish the eye look, I then added two coats of CHANEL Inimitable Waterproof Mascara in Noir ($30.00).

Lipstick: I finished her look by applying CHANEL Aqua Crayon Lip Colour Stick in Cognac ($26.00) all over the lip.

KATE HUDSON ~ FINGERS & TOES PAINTED BY CELEBRITY MANICURIST ASHLIE JOHNSON

Kate Hudson’s Nail Polish Oscars 2012

Since her dress was a vibrant red, Hollywood vixen style, we didn’t want the hands to be too matchy-matchy. So we chose CHANEL Nail Colour in Rose Cache because its almost skin color but has a beautiful sheen to it still. She never had that color before and really loved it. On the toes we decided it would be beautiful to match the dress so if a toe showed you would get a little pop of color. Kate is also very into fun bright colors and red in particular, so even after the party she will get to keep it awhile.

PRODUCTS

CHANEL Nail Colour in Rose Cache ($26.00) on fingers

CHANEL Nail Colour in Rose Carat ($26.00) on toes

Celebrity Makeup Artist Gita Bass created Elizabeth Olsen’s gorgeous look for the 2012 Critics’ Choice Awards last night, using CHANEL Makeup.

Elizabeth Olsen’s Makeup Look At The 2012 Critics’ Choice Awards

“We were inspired by Elizabeth’s dress (Pucci yellow dress from the Spring 2012), which was a bright color, so we decided to create a really natural look. I gave her a fresh healthy glow and kept her looking effortless and young,” said Gita.

After first priming the face with Le Blanc de Chanel Sheer Illuminating Base, Gita applied CHANEL Vitalumiere Moisture Rich Radiance Fluid Makeup SPF 15 in Ivoire to create flawless, even skin tone. She then placed Soleil Tan de Chanel Moisturizing Bronzing Powder under the cheekbones and CHANEL Blush Duo Tweed Effect in Tweed Sienna on the apples of her cheeks for a fresh pop of color. Gita then highlighted her cheek and brow bones using CHANEL Limited Edition Natural Finished Pressed Powder in Jasmin.

To create the natural eye look, Gita blended the lightest two shades from CHANEL Quadra Eyeshadow in Demure on the lid up to the crease and under the bottom lash line. “Using a wet pointed brush, I traced the dark brown shade between her upper lashes to create definition,” descirbed Gita. She then curled Elizabeth’s lashes with what she called “the amazing CHANEL Precision Eyelash Curler” and applied two coats of CHANEL Inimitable Intense Mascara in Noir. To finish the look, Gita beautified the lips with CHANEL Glossimer in Petillant.

Products Used:

CHANEL Le Blanc de Chanel Sheer Illuminating Base, $45.00

CHANEL Vitalumiere Moisture Rich Radiance Fluid Makeup SPF 15 in Ivoire, $55.00

CHANEL Soleil Tan de Chanel Moisturizing Bronzing Powder, $50.00

CHANEL Inimitable Intense Mascara in Noir, $30.00

NEW Makeup From CHANEL. Discover a flattering, limited-edition palette of pop-inspired pinks. A tribute to the modern-day spirit of London’s most vibrant and iconic neighborhoods, Peter Philips, Creative Director of CHANEL Makeup, captures the very essence of English charm in this collection.

CHANEL Makeup

The Exclusive Creation POUDRE TISSÉE in Brompton Road, opens up to reveal a fabric-like effect, evocative of a fine, light and refined knit.

The sheer, satiny powder enhances the radiance of the complexion while giving it a beautiful translucency. A tender pink powder with golden shimmers, can be dabbed onto cheekbones to subtly brighten and freshen the face. Contrasting with the romantic grace of a sheer complexion, lips are dressed in shocking pink. Peter Philips has opted for the seduction and sophisticated femininity of ROUGE ALLURE lipstick in a trio of deep pinks: Kensington, with hints of fuchsia, Hyde Park, with coral hues, and Belgravia, with gold and silver facets. Worn alone or used as a top coat, LÈVRES SCINTILLANTES GLOSSIMER pulls out all the stops with its neon-pink Chelsea shade, for an ultra-shiny glossy effect.
