In honor of Earth Day, Kiehl’s Since 1851, the venerable New York-based purveyor of fine quality skin and hair care is pleased to announce a Limited Edition Label Art series, where 100% of net profits up to $200,000 will benefit the Rainforest Alliance, dedicated to conserving biodiversity and ensuring sustainable livelihoods.

Julianne Moore

To commemorate the philanthropic success of “Friends of Kiehl’s” Earth Day 2009 – which raised $100,000 for WATERKEEPER ALLIANCE – the company is striving to double the donation by raising $200,000 for the Rainforest Alliance. To support the launch, celebrity photographer David LaChapelle captures each personality, Julianne Moore, Jeff Koons, Malia Jones, and Pharrell Williams in his/her unique style.

Staying true to Kiehl’s longstanding mission of supporting initiatives to help preserve and protect the environment, four “Friends of Kiehl’s” have created Limited Edition labels for 100% natural and ECOCERT- certified organic, Açaí Damage-Protecting Toning Mist.

Utilizing a high concentration of super-antioxidant Organic Açaí Berry from the Brazilian Amazon, and combined with Aloe Vera, Lavender and Rosemary Essential Oils, the anytime toning mist refreshes and soothes skin, while providing a sheer layer of antioxidant protection against environmental aggressors. The Limited Edition series features socially conscious influencers from all walks of life – an Actor, a Musician, an Athlete and an Artist – depicting their vision of social responsibility.

About the celebrities photographed by David LaChapelle for the Kiehl’s Earth Day Project:

Julianne Moore has appeared in over 40 films. She has received a Daytime Emmy Award, four Academy Award Nominations, and six Golden Globe Nominations, most recently for A SINGLE MAN. Her upcoming films are CHLOE and THE KIDS ARE ALRIGHT. Julianne is a strong supporter of family and earth friendly philanthropic causes, including Save the Children. As an advocate for eco-consciousness Moore is a vocal ally for using natural ingredients in consumer products. To highlight her passion for the environment, Julianne’s label depicts a joyful soul engaging in the pleasures of the outdoors surrounded by heart shapes; a metaphor for “love the earth.” Moore lives in New York City with her family.

Jeff Koons

One of the foremost internationally recognized contemporary artists of our time, Jeff Koons earned renown for his iconic sculptures such as Rabbit (1986), Michael Jackson and Bubbles (1988) and his public sculptures, such as the monumental floral sculpture Puppy (1992), shown at Rockefeller Center and permanently installed at the Guggenheim Bilbao. Another floral sculpture, Split-Rocker (2000), was installed at the Palace of Versailles in the summer of 2008; the first time the esteemed location opened its doors to a living artist. Koons’ work is showcased in the public galleries of the most highly-regarded museums around the world and he has received numerous awards and honors in recognition of his cultural achievements. Most recently, the Royal Academy of Arts presented Koons with the Wollaston Award and the John Singleton Copley Award and President Jacques Chirac promoted Koons to Officier de la Legion d’Honneur. A staunch supporter of many philanthropic causes leading to creation of The Koons Family Institute, a resource of the International Centre for Missing and Exploited Children, Jeff is also a lover of nature spending time at his family farm in Pennsylvania. Jeff has always had a relationship with readymade objects and also experimenting with reclaimed materials in some of his works. Using his iconic balloon sculptures, Jeff’s label takes its inspiration from the sustainable ingredient – ACAÍ – that is used in the creation of the product for which the label adorns. Koons was born in York, Pennsylvania and studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and the Maryland Institute College of Art; the latter from where he received his BFA. He currently lives and works in New York City.

Malia Jones

Spending her entire life close to the ocean, Malia was raised in Hawaii and started surfing from a young age. Jones began surfing competitively in her early teens and at age 15, won the girls division of the United States Amateur Surfing Championship. While her surfing career was on the rise, Malia’s natural beauty was instantly recognized and a second career in modeling transpired. Although many know Jones for her external beauty – she has been named one of the “50 Most Beautiful People” by People magazine, and one of America’s “10 Sexiest Athletes” by Esquire – Malia is passionate about sustaining the world in which we live. In Hawaii, where she spends most of the year, Jones supports many local socially conscious causes and lives a healthy and organic lifestyle. Malia’s mantra has always been that ‘Little changes make big differences’ and she leads by example for those around her. Inspired by a print she did for one of Malia’s swimsuit collections, German graphic designer Katrin Wiens designed Malia’s vibrant label, which was inspired by the wildlife in the Amazon rainforest.

Pharrell Williams

Pharrell is an American recording artist, producer, musician and fashion designer. Along with Chad Hugo, they make the record production duo The Neptunes and produce pop, hip hop and R&B music. He is also the lead vocalist of rock band N.E.R.D., which he formed with Hugo and childhood friend Shae Haley. As part of The Neptunes, Williams has produced numerous hit singles for various music artists including Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Snoop Dogg and Shakira. The Neptunes have earned three Grammy Awards amongst ten nominations. Pharrell is also the co-founder of the clothing brands Billionaire Boys Club and Ice cream Clothing. Over the last couple of year, Pharrell has also started to design furniture with the famed Emmanuel Perrotin Gallery and even collaborated on a sculpture with Takashi Murakami which was shown and sold at Art Basel this past June. As an environmental activist, Pharrell formed textiles manufacturer Bionic Yarn, a company that creates premium yarns and fabrics made with fibers derived from plastic bottles. Building on his own personal image, Pharrell loves camouflage but never liked the negative aspect of it since it is often connected to war. Using this as his label inspiration, Pharrell altered the camouflage pattern to incorporate numerous images – many of them inspired by the rainforest – into the overall label design.

Yesterday, April 13th, 2010, Kelly Ripa teamed up with Electrolux, maker of eco-friendly, ENERGY STAR qualified appliances, to host her first-ever live Webcast in support of Earth Day and Global Green USA. As part of the exchange, known as the first-ever “Green Idea Swap,” Kelly took questions from a live Web audience with the help of three eco lifestyle experts: Josie Maran, creator of her own eco-friendly makeup line; Zem Joaquin, founder and CEO of Ecofabulous; and Anna Getty, green living and holistic lifestyle expert.

“Eco is so much more than recycling these days,” said Ripa. “These women prove that you don’t have to sacrifice style to go green. From your makeup routine to your laundry room, you can make small changes that can add up to make a big difference.”

The “Green Idea Swap” continues at www.Kelly-Confidential.com. Each time someone swaps an eco idea, Electrolux donates $1 to Global Green USA, a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering a global value shift toward a sustainable and secure future.

To help spread the word, everyone who swaps an idea will be entered for a chance to win an eco-friendly Kelly Green washer and dryer. Gentle on the environment and your clothes, Electrolux washers are up to 83% more energy-efficient and use 56% less water.

Electrolux is the only major household appliances company included in the most recent Dow Jones Sustainability World Index. As part of its company-wide “Green Spirit” initiative, Electrolux committed to improving the energy efficiency of its operations by reducing total energy use 15% by the end of 2009[3]. Having achieved that target a year ahead of schedule, the company announced it will cut energy use an additional 15% by 2012.

Kiehl’s introduces a Limited Edition Celeb-Designed Label Art Series for their Açaí Damage-Protecting Toning Mist to benefit the Rainforest Alliance just in time for Earth Day.

Kiehl’s has long had a strong commitment to the environment—not only do they have an ongoing “Recycle and Be Rewarded” program in their free-standing stores, last year, they raised $100,000 for Waterkeeper Alliance in a charitable partnership with Adrian Grenier, Kelly Slater, Erykah Badu and Parsons The New School for Design.

L to R: Kiehl’s Açaí Damage-Protecting Toning Mist Limited Edition Celebrity Designed Labels: Jeff Koons, Pharrell Williams, Malia Jones, Julianne Moore

This year, in a new partnership, Kiehl’s collaborates with actress Julianne Moore, musician Pharrell Williams, artist Jeff Koons and pro-surfer Malia Jones to raise funds and awareness for the Rainforest Alliance, which is dedicated to sustaining biodiversity and ensuring sustainable livelihoods.

For this initiative, each partner created a Limited Edition label for Kiehl’s Açaí Damage-Protecting Toning Mist – itself part of a skincare collection that is not only Eco Cert certified organic, but is also the first skincare range to ever receive gold standard Cradle to Cradle certification – meaning that it is made with the least amount of waste from start to finish.

100% of net proceeds (amounting to $200,000) will be raised worldwide to benefit Rainforest Alliance with this collection. (Please note: there is a slight variation to the bottle assortment available internationally—the bottles available in the US will feature labels designed by Jeff Koons, Pharrell Williams, Malia Jones and Julianne Moore.) To support the project, celebrity photographer David LaChapelle will capture each personality in his unique style.

Each mist is $26. The collection will be available on Kiehls.com and in all Kiehl’s Since 1851 stores in April 2010.

This Earth Day, Wednesday April 22, Fresh is sharing the beauty with our Get More, Give More Earth Day special.

Fresh has always been committed to using natural ingredients. They are an integral part of the efficacy of their products. They connect us to time-honored beauty rituals of the past, and they keep us at the forefront of innovation.

In honor of Earth Day, Fresh is creating awareness around five of our most iconic, natural ingredients: meadowfoam seed oil, rose, soy, sugar, and Umbrian Clay.

For the first time, each of our fifteen retail stores will feature ingredient bars at which people can smell, touch, and feel these ingredients in their purest forms while learning about their beneficial properties and origins. They will also enjoy a 20% discount on select best-selling items that contain these iconic, natural ingredients.

Additionally, Fresh is donating 10% of the day’s in-store and online proceeds to The Climate Group, an international, non-profit organization that creates eco-conscious initiatives to ensure a low-carbon, prosperous future. So the more people get, the more Fresh is able to give back.

Fresh believes small gestures can have a big impact, so they are also encouraging people to put their purchased items in their purse or perhaps in a shopping bag they’ve already received at a previous store. Even this small act will reduce their carbon foot print on this planet.

In celebration of Earth Day, AVEENO hosted a design contest with Fashion Institute of Technology students to create the print for a limited-edition, organic cotton AVEENO ENRIROSAX Bag. On Earth Day, April 22nd, the first 1,000 people to log-on to AVEENO.COM/JUBILANCE at 12:00 PM (Eastern Time) will receive the winning bag plus a sample of the new AVEENO NOURISH+ Hair Care Collection.

These eco-chic bags, designed by up-and-coming designer Jeff Tsui, will never be sold in stores and they benefit a great cause! For every bag given away, AVEENO will make a $10 donation to Global Green USA, which supports the fight against global climate change and the creation of green buildings and cities within the United States.

”AVEENO has always been committed to inspiring natural beauty in women and the world around us,” said Mike Marquis, Group Product Director of AVEENO. “This contest and giveaway not only celebrates the beauty of nature, but also the importance of protecting the environment. Each bag given away will support global climate change, and hopefully reduce the number of disposable shopping bags used.”

The design contest was launched at FIT in the fall of 2008, and in January 2009, ELLE magazine readers could vote for their favorite design from the top three finalists. Over 3,000 people voted, and Jeff Tsui’s “Jubilance” was the overwhelming winner. In addition to producing the limited edition, organic cotton AVEENO ENVIROSAX reusable bag, AVEENO awarded Jeff $1,500 toward his academic studies; the 2nd and 3rd place designers were each awarded $750.

“I am thrilled to know that my design is going to support a cause I am committed to,” says winning FIT Design Student Jeff Tsui. “My ‘Jubilance’ design will be featured on organic cotton sourced from a cooperative in Peru. So in addition to reducing the use of plastic bags, we are also helping to support the farmers and their communities. The generous donations by AVEENO to Global Green USA will also be used to empower green initiatives in the United States; and like this program, I hope my design inspires others to protect and celebrate the Earth.”
