Talking Makeup and Marta Walsh has the inside scoop on what makeup some celebrities are going to wear on the red carpet at the 2010 Emmy Awards! Looks like NARS will be working with makeup artists to create looks for celebrities this weekend at the 62nd annual Emmy Awards!

Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series nominee Holly Hunter is noted for her formidable mane, and her Emmy’s look was no exception as her dramatic locks once again turned heads. Movie-star beautiful and naturally elegant, her waved hair was silky smooth and shiny, and absolutely eye-catching. Star stylist Enzo Angileri who created the look, was inspired by the glamorous metallic sheen of her gown. He created a rich texture emphasized by intense waves, smoothness, and shine.

“I wanted her to look glamorous and goddess-like,” said Angileri, “and the hair had to look luminous.”

“Holly’s hair and color is beautiful,” said Angileri, “and I wanted to bring out its deep gold and honey tones for the cameras. Shine was everything in this look since these amazing highlights wouldn’t be at all visible in hair that was not shiny enough to reflect the light — especially on camera and in photos.

Angileri first enriched, smoothed and defined the texture of her hair with argan oil-infused Moroccanoil Intense Curl Cream applied before blowdrying. “This gave me a great start because the hair immediately looked moisturized and healthy, and had the hold to be styled,” said Angileri. I blow dried it without a brush, and the shine and texture I achieved with this product alone was incredible.”

Next Angileri used a small 3/4-inch curling iron all over the head to create relaxed natural looking waves. Afterwards, he asked her to share her hair upside down, then sprayed Moroccanoil Glimmer Shine Spray throughout the strands. “I didn’t use hairspray because I wanted the look to be as soft as possible and to be free to fall sensuously forward on her face.”

At this year’s Emmy Awards, Vanessa Williams went for all-out glamour. She chose a dress with lots of color and her hair was down, long and loose, for the first time in three years. To balance out the look, legendary makeup artist Sam Fine focused on a flawless skin with a pop of color in the cheeks and lips.

“It all starts with great skin,” says Fine. “It’s a long night, with long hours and we don’t get to go with them. Foundation and powder are so important.” 

To get Vanessa’s great face, Sam started with cream foundation. “Cream foundation will last throughout the night,” states Sam. Next, he used bronzer to contour the face, drawing attention to each feature.

Vanessa’s dress made Fine to do a little shopping. “Because Vanessa’s dress choice was such a strong color, this forced me to re-address the neutrals I had in my kit,” admits Fine. “I wanted to go for a little more color in the cheek, as well as the lip, so I needed to find the perfect coral-pink shade, because true pink can be hard to wear.”

To highlight Vanessa’s gorgeous eyes, Fine says the look wasn’t about color, but really carving the eyes. “I never match the gown and there was a lot of color elsewhere so I needed to balance it out with a neutral eye,” Fine says. “I used a gorgeous brown shade of eye shadow with a really great shimmer of pearl near the inner corner of the eyes. Then I lined the inside with a beige liner to bring life to the eye. Of course, a false lash, because you can’t hit the red carpet without one, then top it off with a few coats of mascara on the top and bottom lid.”

Mark Townsend, Matrix’s celebrity stylist, helped “Mad Men” star January Jones get glam for the 2009 Emmy Awards on Sunday, September 20, 2009. According to Townsend, “working with January for any event is always going to be fun and inspiring.”

Mark was blown away with the detail and craftsmanship that went into making January’s stunning Versace gown. “While getting January ready, we had the dress hanging close by so I could see it while doing January’s hair, and that proved to be the inspiration for her overall look,” says Townsend, who loved all the lines and cut-outs of the dress, and wanted the hair to have the same feeling.

To get January’s hair from this glamorous event, Mark first sprayed Biolage Bodifying Spray Gel in her damp hair and blow dried it with a medium round brush. Then, he took sections of her hair pulled and pinned them back one at a time. January has shoulder length hair, so he needed to pull the hair back in sections because it is too short to pull it back all at the same time.

Mark wanted the style to look like a textured chignon and by pinning sections at the back, he was able to achieve exactly that. He finished the chignon with Vavoom Shape Maker Hairspray to give the style some hold, and purposely let some hair fall loose around the front to catch the light and to give it more of a “fashion” look.

At last night’s Emmy Awards, the stars were out in full force flaunting their eye-catching styles on the red carpet. Today, Harry Josh, John Frieda International Creative Consultant, shares his styling secrets with easy-to-use tips and tricks to achieve Rose Byrne’s award night look.

Last week, Harry gave Rose this ultra-chic collar bone-length cut to accentuate her bone structure and play up her youth. “Since her dress was so elegant, I wanted to create a simple and chic look for Rose,” said Harry. “I knew that leaving her hair down to showcase her new cut would do just that.”

Since it was such a hot day in Los Angeles yesterday, Harry began by applying John Frieda Frizz-Ease Original Formula Hair Serum to Rose’s soaking wet hair to ensure her style remained frizz-free and polished throughout the night.

 EXPERT TIP: “By infusing soaking wet hair with a dime-size portion of Frizz-Ease Serum, you can block frizz that is caused by humidity and fend off flyaways before they start, paving the way for smooth, flawless style,” said Harry.

Harry then applied Frizz-Ease Straight Fixation to Rose’s towel dried hair before blowing it out straight in sections using a FHI Heat Nano Weight Pro 1900 Turbo blow dyer and a round boar bristle brush. Starting with hair at the back of her head and working towards the crown, Harry emphasized a deep side part by pulling hair to the left as he dried.

EXPERT TIP: “It’s essential to begin blow drying from the roots when you’re wearing a side part,” Harry revealed. “Be sure to work hair in the direction of the part as you dry to ensure that the style stays in place.”

Harry finished by spritzing Frizz-Ease 100% Shine Glossing Mist evenly throughout Rose’s hair to amplify shine and flaunt her new color.

EXPERT TIP: “I wanted to be sure that Rose’s hair captured the light and appeared luminous when she was in front of the camera,” explained Harry. “100% Shine gave it a glossy finish that stayed all night.”

Elisabeth Moss looked stunning on the red carpet last night and as she took stage with her fellow cast members to receive the award for “Best Drama”, for “Mad Men”, the hit series in which she stars. Celebrity makeup artist, Lauren Kaye Cohen shares how she created Elisabeth’s ethereal look:

SKIN: To get Elisabeth’s radiant-looking, flawless skin, I began by using a combination of shu uemura’s Face Architect Smoothing Fluid Foundation and the new Nobara Cream Cover Stick Foundation (in areas that needed more coverage) both in shades 784. I applied both foundations with shu uemura’s Natural 18 Goat Brush. I then dabbed a bit of YSL Teint Parfait Complexion Enhancer in 02 Rose Pearl with my fingertips across the tops of her cheekbones. I finished with shu uemura’s Face Powder in Matte 5yr Light, applying it just to the center of the face with shu’s Natural Brush 27.

EYES: For eye shadow, I used YSL Fard Lumière Aquarésistant Cream Eyeshadow in Pink Sands and Copper Brown and then layered Giorgio Armani Maestro Eye Shadow Quads in 02 Floral and 05 Desert with shu uemura Portable Natural Brush 10. I wanted to keep the eyes very clean and really make them all about the lashes, so I applied Lancôme’s new Ôscillation Powerbooster lash primer followed by Ôscillation Mascara in Black, which looked beautiful!

LIPS: For lips, I used shu uemura Lip Drawing Pencil in PK 382 and then combined the Rouge Unlimited OR 531S lipstick with shu’s gorgeous new Rouge Unlimited Supreme Shine lipstick in OR 520. I gave this lipstick to Elisabeth for touch-ups throughout the night.

Lauren finished by telling us, “I’m so proud of Elisabeth for being nominated for ‘Best Actress’ in the company of Glenn Close and Sally Field, wow!”

Makeup artist Georgie Eisdell shares some of her La Mer must haves for the big night:

Prepping Christina Hendricks for the evening, her makeup artist Georgie Eisdell says, “The look we went for with Christina had a little 20′s influence. I wanted it to keep Christina’s makeup really fresh, clean and elegant. I prepared her skin with La Mer’s The Moisturizing Lotion – it’s perfect to hydrate the skin with being greasy and a perfect base for foundation. Next, I love La Mer’s Treatment Fluid Foundation SPF 15 for Christina. It is light on the skin but gives excellent coverage where needed.

Nominee, Heidi Klum, steps out for the 61st Annual Emmy Awards with hair by celebrity hairstylist, Michel Aleman for Frederic Fekkai & make-up by Linda Hay.

Michel created a Fifties inspired up-do with a modern interpretation – ultra feminine with a bit of volume. To get the look he crafted soft texture with slight waves pulled back to softly frame the face. A strong middle part was accented by a chignon positioned back of the head at ear level. Michel started off by applying Fekkai Coiff Bouffant Gel to create some texture and then blow-dried the hair. Once dry, he applied Fekkai Coiff Oceanique to create the soft waves. He created a middle part and two pony tails in the back of the head at ear level, making sure the hair in front is smooth but pulled back softly. He teased each ponytail to create the volume and then brought together into one dramatic chignon. Aleman finished off with the Fekkai Advanced Brilliant Glossing Sheer Shine Mist.

The simplicity of Heidi’s gown inspired Linda to keep her makeup minimal and fresh. She used a palette of pale pinks and apricots for her eyes and cheeks. To begin Hay used Brightener around her eyes, nose, and the corners of the mouth, blending everywhere to even out Heidi’s complexion. She followed this with a very light touch of cream powder blush on the cheeks.

On the eyes Hay used a selection of pale pink and lavender shadow’s from Victoria’s Secret, applying the pale pink to the lid using a flat shadow brush, lavender in the crease using a pointed shadow brush and a silver to highlight just under the eyebrow. Under the eye Hay applied a touch of lavender using a small pointed shadow brush and then added a touch of silver to the inside corner of the eye to make it pop. Next she curled the lashes + applied 3 layers of Black Mascara to the top and bottom. Individual lashes were applied to the outside corners to make the eyes pop. The lips were lined with a nude lip liner then painted with a beige lipstick. She finished off Heidi’s look with Victoria’s Secret Body Perfecting Spray to make her skin glow.

Red carpet beauty scoop: Get the look of Mary-Louise Parker at the 61st Annual Primetime Emmy Awards. Mary-Luise makeup look was created by Makeup Artist: Tina Turnbow for Maybelline New York.

Stepping onto the red carpet in a single strapped, deep purple Zac Posen dress – Mary-Louise Parker was ready to shine at the Emmy’s! Tina was inspired by the deep purple and indigo tones in Mary-Louise’s dress, and her gorgeous gunmetal grey accessories. To play up the colors in Mary-Louise’s dress, Tina brought out her best features with a dramatic yet classic smoky eye, blushing pink cheeks and nude lips.

Face: Because Mary-Louise has beautiful porcelain skin, Tina kept her face looking pristine by applying Maybelline New York Dream Liquid Mousse in Classic Ivory – with touches of Maybelline New York Dream Mousse Concealer in Light under the eyes and to the tops of the cheeks to give a contoured look.

Cheeks: To compliment her ivory skin, Tina brushed on Maybelline New York Mineral Power Naturally Luminous Blush in Gentle Pink to the apples of the cheeks to give the look of a soft natural flush.

Eyes: Tina’s inspiration for Mary-Louise’s entire look was the gorgeous opal-toned smoky eye she created with Maybelline New York Expert Wear Stylish Smokes in Amethyst Smokes. Tina used all four shades in the palette to play up her eyes and add drama; the deep purples complemented her creamy skin and dark hair. She then followed with Maybelline New York Line Stiletto Liquid Eyeliner in Black on the upper and lower lash lines. To showcase the gorgeous jewel tones of the shadows, Tina only applied one coat of Maybelline New York Pulse Perfection Vibrating Mascara in Very Black. Pulse Perfection 

Lips: For a barely-there, neutral lip, Tina lined the entire mouth with Maybelline New York Color Sensational Lip Liner in Toast. She then followed up with Maybelline New York Color Sensational Lipstick in Nearly There.
