Iconic hairstylist Oribe created a sophisticated and fresh updo to compliment Scarlett Johansson’s red carpet style at the 2010 Tony Awards. “Scarlett wanted something simple but stylized for the Tonys” says Oribe. Now, Oribe shares with us his hair styling tips and tricks for recreating Johansson’s updo at home.

The hair tutorial: Here’s how to get Scarlett Johansson’s Hairstyle at the 2010 Tony Awards

1. Use Gel Serum throughout the hair and blow out for smoothness.

2. Curl hair with a large-barrel curling iron and complete a full set on the hair, using Soft Lacquer Hair Spray to lock in style and shine.

3. Spray Dry Texurizing Spray on the roots only, then tease hair and put up in a chic French twist.

4. Before walking out the door, finish with another round of Soft Lacquer Hair Spray all over the hair to seal in style. Oribe protected Scarlett’s hairdo from the rain and humidity with his NEW Soft Lacquer Hair Spray.

John Ruidant for Redken styles Alison Pill for CDFA Awards: Accompanying Chris Benz to the CDFA Awards Monday night, June 7th, 2010, Alison Pill looked stunning in a black and white loose flowing v-neck dress. To compliment her overall soft look, Redken Session Stylist John Ruidant fashioned a loose, undone updo with hair that was not too tight for a stunningly classic red carpet look.

L to R: Fashion Designer Chris Benz and actress Alison Pill

Marta Walsh says: “BTW I’ve met both Chris Benz and John Ruidant backstage during New York Fashion week, they are simply the sweetest in person and possess an enviable effortless talent”!

How to get Alison Pill’s undone updo: To create the look, Ruidant spritzed Redken iron silk 07 ultra straightening spray through her damp hair and blow dried through for texture with a Mason Pearson brush. Then, using a 1 inch curling iron, he set her hair in alternating directions, spraying Redken hot sets 22 thermal setting mist on each section before curling for heat protection.

After the set cooled, he backcombed all of her hair to the roots, created a messy side part and then finger combed the hair back to the nape as if to make a ponytail, still leaving loose bits around the hairline to create a soft shape. Next, he twisted the ponytail up and created a French Twist, pinning the loose hair and pinning the ends into itself in the back. To finishing the look, he sprayed quick dry 18 instant finishing spray all over for a hold that lasted all night!

Victoria Beckham received rave reviews today for the gorgeous collection of dresses she showed yesterday, February 16, 2010, and the makeup was equally praise worthy. Victoria wanted minimal makeup, but with maximum impact. The result: nude lips, silvery eyes and shimmery skin.

Makeup Tutorial: For the makeup, Francelle did a modern take on 1930′s Hollywood glamour (in keeping with Victoria’s “Dick Tracy” inspiration for the clothes) so she paired a metallic eye with a pale, nude lip. First, Francelle swept Color Design Eyeshadow in Optic on the entire lid to the brow bone and added Color Design Eyeshadow in Crème Lustré to the lower lid. Ombre Magnetique in Silver (coming this fall 2010!) was used in the crease for a shiny, metallic finish. The new Hypnôse Drama Mascara coated the top lashes only. The skin was dusted with Ageless Minérale Powder in Translucent for a luminous complexion. Blush Subtil in Miel Glace was applied lightly to the cheekbones for an added touch of color. For the lips, Francelle first dotted them with concealer (a great trick for ensuring you get a super nude pout with staying power) then applied L’Absolu Rouge Lipstick in Rich Cashmere. The nails were short and groomed with just clear nail polish and the hair, by Didier Malige, was pulled back in messy version of a French twist.

Victoria’s Fall 2010 collection is full of gorgeously structured silhouettes with beautiful draping detail and her signature zippers. The color palette–rich emerald, paprika and sapphire hues paired with nudes, metallics and black–added to the collection’s modernity. Make sure to check out the collection on Style.com.

FUN FACT: The private residence where the show took place, on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, was featured in “Sex and the City” the movie. Remember the scene where Big shows Carrie the apartment he has bought her, complete with fashionista dream closet? It was filmed in the room where Victoria did the presentations.

The Look & Inspiration: Inspired by her gorgeous black Lanvin dress, Townsend created a head-turning look that was boldly accessorized with a sleek black ribbon headband. “As soon as I saw the dress I knew I wanted to put her hair up,” said Townsend, “and I think that adding the satin ribbon as a headband gave a classic French twist with a very modern edge.”

Here’s Mark Townsend’s hair tutorial on how to get January Jones hairdo at the 2010 Golden Golbes:

I started by applying a small amount of Moroccanoil Treatment to January’s damp hair and blow-dried it with a round brush. This unique argan oil-infused formula gives the hair amazing shine and silky finish, an essential to the look I had in mind.

When the hair was dry, I took a dollop of Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream into my hands and then finger combed the hair to give a soft hold and add even more shine and leave the hair extremely smooth.

Finally, I gathered the hair into a French twist and secured with about 10 bobby pins. To give her a progressive, chic look I used satin ribbon as a headband.”

Products used to achieve January Jones’ Golden Globe hair look:

Moroccanoil Treatment. This remarkable, instantly-absorbed argan-oil infused formula is found in the kits of virtually every major celebrity, runway, and editorial stylist. Exclusively designed to give hair a natural-looking silky, lustrous shine and a frizz- and static-free finish, it strengthens, conditions and revitalizes hair while speeding drying time up to 40%. (MSRP: $39.00 / 3.4 fl oz.)

Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream. This proprietary argan oil-infused formula gives hydrating and natural-looking hold while eliminating frizz, and adding definition and shine. (MSRP: $30.00 / 10.2 fl. oz.)

Moroccanoil’s argan oil is harvested under a free trade program, which provides substantial socio-economic support to thousands of families in the Southwest region of Morocco. Moroccanoil products are sold exclusively in fine salons. Consumers can find the nearest salon by visiting: http://www.moroccanoil.com .

GET THE LOOK: Love Marion Cottilard hairdo at the 2010 Golden Globe Awards? Marion Cotillard’s dramatic Golden Globe hair look, created by master stylist Robert Vetica, complemented her elegant Dior gown with a subtle touch of rock and roll.

Manicurist Deborah Lippmann polished off some of Hollywood’s hottest looks at the Golden Globes on Sunday. Past Golden Globe winner Marion Cotillard wore Don’t Tell Mama. The young and modern shade was the perfect accent to her green Dior gown.

“I wanted a look that was glamorous, but with an edge,” said Vetica, “and was inspired by the rock and roll pompadours of the 50s, further strengthened with a sleek, modern French twist. Since shiny, healthy-looking hair was essential to the look, I first applied argan oil-infused Moroccanoil Treatment to wet hair, and blow dried it straight using a diffuser to keep a bit of natural texture. Then I pincurled the entire head front to back, so that hair would easily flow back and up into the pompadour shape. After releasing the pin curls, I ran Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream through the hair with my hands. After brushing back and up, I back combed the top, and pulled the sides back tight, leaving some volume on top. Next, I twisted the hair into a tight french twist which was then asymetrically attached with eye-catching diamond hair clips created by Chopard. I fishined the look with a light misting of Moroccanoil Glimmer Shine Spray to give Marion’s hair a beautiful, naturally luminous shine.”

Tying ‘The Knot’!

Bridal Runway Chignons and Twists Reflect Looser, Relaxed Versions of the Classics: This season, Bridal Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2010 updos reflected looser, imperfect styles to contrast with the superbly elegant gowns sewn to perfection at the Amsale, Christos and Kenneth Pool shows. Since Brides today demand perfection in all aspects of the day, why not ‘relax’ a bit when it comes to their hair? Whether it was loosely-opened chignons, playful accessories, or imperfectly textured French Twists, Tearsheet Artistic Director Giovanni Giuntoli, who instructs stylists through on-set styling classes in New York City, created each look to reflect a no-fuss style that allowed each bride to glide down the aisle with angelic perfection. The best news? Each of the three looks can be easily re-created, of course, with some help from a friend:

Swirled-Open Chignon – seen at Christos (see image above): “At Christos, we wanted to accentuate the young, modern, clean looks with a twist on the classdonut. We took inspiration from the typical ballerina bun, but softened it by adding texture and a bit of lift to the crown and sides. Like she did it herself, with a little help from a friend” explains Giuntoli.ic bun, creating a looser folded.

To create, first apply Redken spray starch 15 versatile ironing spray (SRP $13.00) throughout hair to allow for extra texture and support of the shape. Make a horizontal part at the crown 4 inches from forehead and section off. Use spritzes of workforce 09 flexible volumizing spray ($15.00) to reduce flyaways as you pull back and secure with an elastic just above the occipital bone. Next, take front section and spray fabricate 03 heat active texturizer (SRP $13.00) through and backcomb lightly in sections to create the height that will show at the top of the finished style. Lightly brush back to meet with the ponytail making sure to keep the textured height, and secure all together with an elastic. Grab the ponytail and swirl it loosely into an open chignon around itself and pin as you create a ‘donut-like’ shape. Hide ends into bun and pin with hair pins to secure. Loosely pull out a few pieces on the sides and top for added texture to the silhouette. Lastyly, finish total look with workforce 09 flexible volumizing spray (SRP $15.00) for a flexible hold

Accessorized Updo – seen at Kenneth Poole: “We had a quick turnaround time between Christos and Kenneth Pool, so to easily create a more elaborate look to reflect the added glamour in the line, we tightened the bun and added a large flower orrnation, which instantly gave the look added sophistication to make a bigger, more flirty statement” said Giuntoli.

Try it yourself! Create as you would with the swirled open chignon, just tighten the chignon just a bit more to create a strong base for the ornation. Take a large flower ornation and pin on side of the chignon with bobby pins so you can see the detailing of the headpiece from the front to add ultimate attention to the hairstyle. Finish total look with forceful 23 super strength finishing spray (SRP $15.00) to hold the headpiece and the style in place.

Textured French Pleat with Height – seen at Amsale: “For the timeless Amsale collection, we returned to the classic French pleat, but put a modern spin on it; think Breakfast at Tiffany’s, but a little deconstructed and some extra attitude.” says Giuntoli.

To create, mist spray starch 15 versatile ironing spray (SRP $13.00) through the top of head and using a 1 1/2 inch curling iron, curl front section of hair back from hairline in the direction of the back of the head – this gets get the hair to move in the direction you will be pulling it back into. Spray fabricate 03 heat-active texturizer (SRP $13.00) throughout entire head and back comb section by section to creating a voluminous, airy texture. Using a bristle brush, loosely comb hair back into a ponytail, keeping the soft airy height at the crown but still tight at the sides. Create the pleat by loosely twisting ponytail in upon itself up towards the top of the head, pinning as you move up until you get to the top of the twist, tucking ends in and securing with pins. Pull out a just a few airy pieces from the twist to create texture, and finish with workforce 09 flexible volumizing spray (SRP $15.00) for extra hold that will keep the pleat in place, lasting all night.

With these easy tips for more relaxed styles of the classics, show your guests that you can “let loose” a bit with your updo and still have the perfect wedding style! Just remember, no matter how elaborate or simple your dress and accessories, make sure you pick the right hairstyle that fits your attitude and makes you feel your best – after all, it is your big day!

Hair Trends With Redken Fall/Winter 2009 according to Guido, Redken Creative Consultant:

A Strong Presence: “This season, it’s all about the ‘do’…hairstyles that have a strong presence, that push the boundaries. These kind of looks are dependent on the use-and in many cases the overuse-of hair products.”

A Positive Force: “Hair now is a reaction to the times we’re living in. It’s strong, positive and forceful-it’s empowering to women.”

A Way To Update And Adapt: “We’ve taken looks from the 40s, 50s, and 80s and updated them with new elements. Women can adapt these looks for everyday by toning down a bit. If a look has extreme shine, use a little less shine product. If it has exaggerated volume, lessen the height.”

Hair Trends With Redken Fall/Winter 2009: New Classics: Traditional Styles With A Modern Twist.

Classic ‘dos including French twists, chignons and menswear-inspired quiffs are returning to the runway. Far from being retro, these looks are thoroughly modernized with unexpected, softly subversive touches.

As seen at: Akris-Bottega Veneta-Clavin Klein-Loewe-Louis Vuitton-Luelle-Marc Jacobs-Miu Miu-Polilini-Prada-Ralph Lauren

Tips: Revolutionize the classic French twist with height and texture worthy of Marie Antoinette, as seen at Louis Vuitton. Apply thickening lotion 06 body builder, rough dry, curl, backcomb and then pin into a messy French twist.

Define shapes require maximum hold. At Marc Jacobs, Guido used forceful 23 super strength finishing spray to keep his ’80s-inspired ‘dos in place. Layer it on for the extreme, over-lacquered finish seen on the runway.

The newest chignons feature a strong side part, with one side swept over the eye and the other tucked behind the ear, Mist on vinyl glam 02 mega shine spray and quick dry 18 instant finishing spray for the look seen at Miu Miu.

All products are by Redken. Essential tools: Paddle brush. Blow dryer nozzle. Curling iron. Flat iron.

Oscar presenter Marion Cotillard once again proved to be one of the most striking and beautiful arrivals on the red carpet. Robert Vetica for Moroccanoil Styles Marion Cotillard’s Hairstlye for Oscars 2009. Robert Vetica is the author of the new book, “Good to Great Hair” (Fair Winds Publishing).

Top celebrity hair stylist Robert Vetica, who styled Marion Cotillard’s hair for her La Vie En Rose Best Actress Oscar win last year, created a flawless, dramatic look that worked to perfection with the elegant John Galliano for Christian Dior gown that she wore.

Marion Cotillard.

Vetica created a shimmering, ultra modern take on the French Twist, that was inspired by Cecil Beaton’s portraits of the great fashion and society icons of the 40′s and 50′s. Polished and styled close to the head, the French Twist was rolled large and emphasized volume for a contemporary edge.

To create the beautifully sculptured French Twist, Vetica first blow-dried Marion Cotillard’s hair with a round brush using Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream (MSRP: $30.00 / 10.2 fl. oz.) to smooth, detangle strands and to prevent frizz, and created a low side part. He then teased the hair all over with added attention to the crown and the back of the head.
