“The Classic Bohemian Beauty”

The Look: Crystal Jin never could find styles, colors and fabrics which matched with her personal taste and as a result has created her luxurious swimwear line out of necessity and her outdoor roots. The stunning 2010 collection reflects the classic bohemian beauty.

The ghd Way: What better way to mimic the timeless free-spirited beauty than with a modern tribute to the late Farrah Fawcett. Aucoin first prepped hair with ghd creation spray to protect models’ hair and help it retain movement after heat-styling. She then used the ghd IV styler to curl hair away from the face, echoing Farrah’s classic look. Aucoin used the root drag technique throughout most of the hair, then created root lift at the crown using the ghd IV styler.

After the curls were gently separated using fingers, Aucoin worked a couple dots of ghd polishing serum from the ends of the hair up which gave it more texture and definition. Finally, she backcombed the crown for an extra dose of volume and misted the entire look with ghd ultimate hairspray.

“Trashy & Flashy Circa 1984”

The Look: “My theme this year is Rock & Roll Space Hooker Circa 1984. It’s very flashy and trashy. I’m going to show my true self this time,” Red Carter described on his 2010 collection.

The ghd Way: Lopez reinterpreted the rock and roll space-age theme from the collection and worked a beachy flavor into it for the runway. The result was a sculpted, sophisticated look that was tough, yet glamorous all around. First, ghd sea spray was sprayed into the hair then diffused throughout using a blow dryer. Lopez created a part in the hair that ran from ear to ear, passing through the crown, then secured each half into tight ponytails.

After working a bit more ghd sea spray into the back piece, Lopez backcombed the top part/interior of the ponytail to give it more texture then rolled it up into the head, securing it with bobby pins. The same rolled shape was mirrored in the front half with a slight variation as the front ponytails were placed off center and more to the side, coming down slightly more towards models’ foreheads. A final misting of ghd ultimate hairspray provided additional hold for the runway.

“Big. Bright. Bold.”

The Look: Inspired by the music of the 80s, L*Space designer Monica Wise created a collection that reflected all things bright and bold from the memorable decade.

The ghd Way: Lopez had one thing in mind when creating the look for the show: BIG! He started off prepping hair with ghd thermal protector, creating a layer of protection for the models’ hair. Using the ghd salon styler, Lopez created big curls then rolled each piece inward, securing with pins to help the curl set.

After the rolls had time to set, Lopez took the pins out of each curl and backcombed each piece to create loads of volume and lift, particularly at the roots. As each section was backcombed, a light mist of ghd ultimate hairspray was applied to hold the lift and keep the curl. Lopez finished with one final mist of ghd ultimate hairspray to set the entire look and give it extra staying power.

ghd Runway Report Fall 2009 New York Fashion Week: MATTHEW WILLIAMSON Hair lead: Paul Hanlon for ghd.

“Chic. Graphic. Minimal.”

The Look: Straying from the typical bohemian style of collections past, Matthew Williamson wanted a whole different look for his latest collection. The result: graphic prints, structural designs, and a spectrum of vibrant colors and textures.

The ghd Way: Smooth, sleek, multi-textured hair polished to perfection.

First the ghd Directive Team prepped the hair with ghd thermal protector, dampening each section, to protect the hair from heat styling while retaining its moisture. This helped to create the perfect base for the ultra sleek style.

An extreme side part was created on either side of the head as a small amount of ghd obedience cream was applied throughout the hair. The hair was then blow-dried to a smooth finish using the ghd ceramic brush.

Using the ghd IV styler, the ghd Directive Team ironed the hair completely straight (the ghd IV mini styler was used for the areas closer to the hairline and on models with shorter hair), making it a point to achieve a sleek and straight effect without too much body.

To finish the look, the team took diagonal partings from the top of the ears, working towards the part line, and sprayed each section with ghd ultimate hairspray smoothing out the roots with a small brush. Each section’s roots were sprayed until damp and brushed down firmly while the ends of the hair were left untouched by the hairspray. To complete the look, ghd reflection spray was lightly misted throughout the hair. The result was a gradient of textures: slick and wet at the roots, slightly glossy mid-shaft, and completely dry, yet still healthy and sleek at the ends.

ghd Artistic Ambassador Andy Bodine shows you how to recreate Jessica Alba’s look using an array of ghd products.

Look 1: Sleek and Sassy: If you’re born with natural texture in your hair like Jessica, you’ll need to use an iron to get hair looking this sleek.

Start off with a lightweight product, like ghd thermal protector, which protects hair from the heat of your styling tools. The formula also controls static and brings out your hair’s natural shine. On hair with medium length, I use the ghd IV styler to straighten strands from root to tip. To prevent the style from looking too stiff and straight, slightly curl the ends inward. The ghd IV styler is great for this since the ceramic plates are beveled and float (meaning they have more give when you use it to curl, which prevent dents or lines in the hair). For Jessica’s fringe, I would use the ghd IV mini styler which comes with ½” plates that are great for using on shorter styles. After using the styler, apply just a small amount of ghd shining serum to smooth the cuticle and you’re ready to show off your sleek, sassy style. 

Look 2: Textured and Tousled: If your hair is like Jessica’s and naturally has a slight wave in it, after showering use a product that helps define that natural wave. I use ghd texture lotion on hair when it’s still slightly damp. The formula is great at defining and piecing out your hair’s natural texture without looking or feeling too stiff. Use a diffuser with your blow dryer when drying the rest of your hair to prevent frizz, then apply ghd sea spray which has Dead Sea salt crystals to help recreate movement in hair and also provides a good hold that lasts throughout the day.

If your hair doesn’t have the natural wave in it, try creating a loose wave with your styler. I take a section of hair and place my ghd IV styler close to the root. Once I clamp down on the piece, I turn the styler 180 degrees away from the face and slowly pull through to the ends of the hair. The more quickly you pull through, the looser the wave and the great thing about this look is that if your waves turn out slightly messy, it looks even better! Finish the look with ghd sea spray to add matte texture and you’re good to go!

“Timeless American”-Kevan Hall

The Look:
Inspired by Adrian, a famous costume designer of the 20′s, 30′s and 40′s, the collection featured classic, chic designs with a modern take.

The ghd Way:
Loose waves with a deep side part pulled into a low chignon for a glamorously feminine look to compliment the collection.

First, the ghd Directive Team applied ghd fat hair lotion to models’ dry hair. The product was then heat activated using a blow dryer with a diffuser attachment, which created body and texture. Next, a light mist of ghd sea spray was worked through the hair to infuse even more texture and hold. Using the ghd IV styler, a slight finger wave was created by gently rocking the styler back and forth starting at the crown and continuing all the way to the ends. Hair was pulled back at the nape of the neck and secured in a ponytail. Then, ghd polishing serum was applied to the ponytail to smooth out any flyaways as the hair was then twisted into a low chignon and secured with bobby pins. Finally, ghd ultimate hairspray was used to finish and hold the look.

On Sunday September 9 2007, Peter Som unveiled his Spring 2008 Collection at Bryant Park during New York Fashion Week.  ghd helped create the sexy tousled hair looks for the catwalk.  Led by one of the most acclaimed stylists in the world Eugene Souleiman, the ghd directive team created naturally tousled looks that matched with the relaxed sex appeal to the All-American, chic, ultra-tailored, yet feminine designs.

According to Eugene Souleiman the look is naturally worn style but with a slight grunge edge to it.  According to ghd’s lead artist Omar Lopez it’s the look of the uptown girl who parties downtown.
