The first I’ve noticed last night when I saw Claire Danes at the 2012 Golden Globe Awards was her super clean blonde hair. It was the real deal blonde and as I like to call it Hollywood Blonde. “My inspiration for Claire’s hair color was Grace Kelly. When looking at early photos, I was struck by how similar the color was on Miss Kelly and that of Claire. Of course a more updated and modern version of this was my intention. Claire’s natural color was gently lifted to produce a color that acts as “back-lighting” for her blond highlights. The highlights are strategically placed around her face and off of her part to create maximum reflection and also allow the base color to shine through. The finished product is a modern take on hollywood glamour.”

I never thought that I would be getting hair style inspiration from a Princess. Sounds cliche but Kate Middleton happens to have a beautiful hair and the matching hair style. What I love about Kate’s hair style is that it’s really not too much of a hair style. Very long layers and not too many sharp edges makes this hair style very practical to even the fussiest and busiest women. The longer the hair is, like Kate’s, the easier it is to maintain.

Think about it, when your hair has long layers you don’t have to spend extra time blow drying these stubborn short bangs that get messed up through out the day (did I mention give the hair spray a break), hair  just falls down with ease. Needless to say, Kate’s hair color looks in exceptional condition. I recently saw an old photo of  Kate as a young girl and her hair was lighter, dark blonde perhaps. So IF she currently colors her hair to bit of a darker brown shade it’s quite inspirational to me to have such sleek and elegant color treated hair. It’s a very pretty color, and much more of a fun, bold look than the brown she was previously sporting. Ultimately, I think a richer, deeper red would look best on her.

Rita’s tip for brunettes thinking about dying their hair red:

Red is a hard color to wear, it doesn’t work for/with everyone’s skin tone. The more olive your skin tone, the more auburn/brown you should be. The lighter the skin tone, the more copper you should be.

Other tips from Rita on changing your color:

When changing your color, make sure you are ready for the change. Also, adding highlights to your new color will make it look more natural and not dense and colored. Even subtle highlights are enough.

Get it done in the salon – drastic changes are always better done by skilled colorists. This way you are sure you have the best result and color for you hair.

Research the best colorist for you transformation, then ask your colorist for their opinion. Maybe the color you want is not the best for you, but you can compromise and create the perfect color for you.
