These last few weeks of summer is all about looking good —whether you’re channeling poolside chic or beach beautiful. On Saturday, August 7, 2010, Lavetta Fajardo for Kim Vo Salon at the Mirage took summer beauty to a whole new level, creating this perfectly playful look for Tinsley Mortimer, who was celebrating her birthday at Tao Beach.

How To Get Tinsley Mortimer’s hairstyle:

Lavetta created a playful french braided headband that’s easy to recreate at home — just start the braid at the crown and work across the head until you reach the top of the ear, leaving out the side pieces as you work along.

Then Lavetta added in a slight wave to Tinsley’s face framing layers using a large barrel iron, and finally, finishing with Kim Vo Perfect Polish Dry Serum to infuse shine and help keep frizz and flyaways at bay (ulta.com; $55).

Before going to Natasha Bedginfield’s concert I had to look good right? My hair (which I always refer to as my half beauty) had to be flawless. I took a walk down Washington Street (825 Washington Street that is) to the Serge Normant at John Frieda salon. BTW if you are staying at The Standard Hotel which is also on the same street and in a desperate need to get you hair done, just walk few block to the John Frieda salon, it’s SO close!

This is no joke guys, the John Frieda hair serum (such a classic) revolutionized me back in the early 90s. I’m serious here. Until that point I’ve never used or seen any hair care styling products to deal with my very frizzy super voluminous 80′s hair! Thank you John Frieda for saving me and making my hair look silky smooth and straight. I look much cooler now so I believe!

I met a fabulous hairstylist named Yanni who now I call an artist and set down for my blow out. “Julianne wanted a simple but sophisticated look for her press in Sundance. I applied Leonor Greyl Serum de Soie Sublimateur to her wet hair and low-dried her hair with a large round brush. It made her hair shiny and polished without looking greasy, and it held really well in the wet, snowy eather. For a finishing touch, I applied a small amount of Leonor Greyl Eclat Naturel on her ends. She looked great!”

GET THE LOOK: Nominee Diane Kruger’s glamorous asymmetrical Jason Wu gown (which BTW Marta loves Diane’s dress! Best Dressed for sure!) was the inspiration for the soft, romantic side-chignon that celebrity stylist Mark Townsend created for the 2010 SAG awards.

“I started by taking a small amount of Moroccanoil Treatment and finger combed it through Diane’s dry hair” explained Townsend. “The original Moroccanoil is super light-weight and absorbs right in, to give the hair amazing shine without weighing it down.

“I then took 2 inch sections of hair and wrapped them around a 1 and 1/2 inch curling iron to create waves all over the head. Next, I took a small amount of Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream in my palms and then raked my hands through the hair to break up the waves, eliminate any fly-aways, and give the hair a soft hold. Next, I gathered her hair behind her left ear and loosely braided it, gathering about an inch from the bottom, then looped the end of the braid back up and pinned it behind her left ear. GET THE LOOK: Penelope Cruz style and look at the 67th Golden Globe Awards was one of my favorite. I loved her super chic black Armani dress which had a mixture of stripes and lace. And I loved her hairdo and makeup.

Inspiration & The Look: Inspired by Penelope’s vintage Armani dress and her fresh from vacation tan, iconic hairstylist Oribe channeled classic Hollywood glamour for Penelope’s red carpet style. He created cascading, pinned back waves for a relaxed, elegant look.

Manicurist Deborah Lippmann polished off some of Hollywood’s hottest looks at the Golden Globes on Sunday. Penelope Cruz wore Night And Day to compliment her bronzed glowing skin.

Oribe used his Imperméable to shield Penelope’s hair from the day’s rain and humidity.

How To Get Penelope Cruz Hairdo at the 2010 Golden Globes:

1. Start by working Gel Serum through the hair and then use hot rollers or a curling iron to set the hair. Spray Imperméable or an anti-humidity spray on the hair before using the curling iron to help protect the style and prevent frizz.

2. Brush loose curls into place

3. Accentuate the wave in the front and make sure it is pronounced

Last week I had the pleasure to join a webcast from New York City hosted by the John Frieda experts: John Frieda, Harry Josh, Luigi Murenu.

It was amazing to finally see the man behind truly one of my favorite brands ever, John Frieda. I can’t never forget when one day after I moved to New York City from Israel back in 1991, my sister told me that I MUST get this hair serum! It was the beginning of a new era in my life. The era of straight sleek hair. And a goodbye to the mousse-full big hair. In other words, the John Frieda Frizz-Ease Hair Serum is one product that revolutionized my (beauty) life.

What sets the John Frieda brand from the rest is that it grew from John’s salon in London. Mr John Frieda himself was using these products in his salon and working with fashion magazines, such as : British Vogue. Mr Frieda also was one of the first of  ‘celebrity hair stylists’. Back in the 1970′s it was a whole new concept. Most hairdressers were known for cut and blow dry and not ‘stylists’.

It seems to me that the John Frieda hair care line was created in the right place and right time. Styling products didn’t exist in the 1970′s all the way to the late 80′s. Most people simply used the mousse. Luckily the big hair was in therefore no one complained. What also interesting to find out is that frizzy hair was never mentioned or addressed. It is quite astonishing because frizzy hair or frizz prone hair is quite popular (I know I have it). So John Frieda created not only a unique product but also a product people want! Later on the John Frieda continued to create product with this prescriptive approach. Think: their hair care line for different hair colors (sheer blonde collection), and their latest the John Frieda luxurious Volume collection for thin limp hair. And, Root Awakening. The brand also collaborates with top hair stylists and professionals such as Harry Josh and Luigi Murenu to make sure they are on the cutting edge of fashion.

John Frieda insisted that it’s not enough to just have the right styling product, you need to have the right technique of application. For example, he talked about how to apply Frizz Ease Hair Serum.

1. Make sure your hair is saturated with water, and we mean, soaking wet. The product works best on wet hair to seal and transform the hair cuticle’s texture and stay flat, hence, no frizz.
2. Do not towel dry, comb, or shake your hair from side to side or up and down.
3. Take a dime size of product and emulsify in your hands
4. Gently press into hair. Distribution is a key.
5. Gently squeeze the hair when applying product.
6. Don’t over dry. Tip: if the hair feels cool when you touch after blow drying that means your hair is still wet. As soon as your begins to feel hot it means moisture has completely evaporated from your hair.

This weekend I’ve decided to let my hairdresser blow dry my hair because lately my hair is just not behaving! Do you all know the feeling? Hair Trend: slicked back ponytail

“It’s sharp, sleek, and super shiny,” hairstylist Luigi Murenu said. Murenu applied Kiehl’s Hair Gel to damp hair and then blow-dried it straight. He used a fine-tooth comb to make a deep side part and then slick it into a tight, low ponytail.

He flat ironed the tail and then smoothed over everything with John Frieda’s Frizz-Ease Thermal Protection Hair Serum. To finish off the ponytail, Murenu wrapped the base with S&M bondage tape.
