Highlights From the Article:

On having children with a surrogate mother: “Meeting your children rather than giving birth to them, it’s as if, um, it’s—suspended animation. The gestational experience is gone. It’s as if everything else disappears for a moment, and the world goes silent and—I can’t explain it except to say that nothing else existed. I don’t remember anything but the blanket on the bed that they were lying on and my husband’s face and their faces and my son’s. It’s literally as if sound is sucked from the room. Time stands still. It’s so different, and equally extraordinary.”

On the importance of keeping perspective: “We painted our patio furniture ourselves…. I make my children’s food myself. We put together their high chairs ourselves; we do a lot ourselves! We do our own grocery shopping, we go to the market ourselves, you know? I do my laundry.”

The upcoming Sex and the City sequel: “We four women, despite I guess what a lot of people hope, have never been better. This movie—and maybe it’s because we actually lived together—it was the best! We were together all day long, at night, in the restaurants, in our hotels. It was wonderful.”

Sex and the City getting older: “We’re still playing—uh, I don’t know how old Carrie is! Is she about 42 now? I think Carrie’s younger than I [Parker is 45], and Miranda and Charlotte are younger than they are in real life. Samantha was always the older lady, so she’s 52 now and talks a lot about what comes with that. In the movie. Talks about menopause. Comedically.”

Her introduction to New York and Halston: “I came to New York originally in 1976, and then I got this part in Annie around the corner from Studio 54. I was a little girl, and for some reason they always invited the cast of Annie to Studio 54, so there I was at thirteen and fourteen, and the doorman would usher us in, literally underneath his arms. And it was 1977 in New York City, and you couldn’t be alive and not know the name Halston.”

Her new position with Halston “There was every reason to say no, and there were very compelling reasons to say yes…. It’s an exciting time at that company. It has had some false starts that are well documented and it is relaunching itself. It has a wonderful legacy, and I couldn’t say no.”

Backstage at New York Fashion Week with Eugene Souleiman, Global Creative Director, Wella Professionals creating the Hair Look for Halston A/W 2010.

The Look: Nature’s Fall

The AW ’10 Halston collection utilized classic draping techniques with linear modernity. When creating the hair look for the show, Eugene Souleiman drew inspiration from one of the four of Wella Trend Vision directions, Nature’s Goddess. This look portrays a confident, assertive woman by using the enchantment of nature to create a new form of femininity and seduction.

On the catwalk this translated as perfect, luminescent, supremely long, ultra smooth and immaculately groomed hair. The exaggerated lengths of this modern virginal looking hair contrasted perfectly with the strong sexy silhouette of the Halston collection.

“I wanted to take a classic natural hair look to the extreme to give it an edge. We exaggerated all the elements of the hair from the shine to the length to create a confident and effortless look.”

Get the look: Freshly washed hair is treated with System Professional Startup then blow dried from the roots with a large round brush. Hair is then straightened in sections. Finally, spray a finishing spray on to a natural bristle brush which is pulled through hair to smooth down any remaining fine ends.

Products: Wella Professionals Startup

Introducing HALSTON WOMAN and HALSTON MAN: Two New Fragrances from the House of Halston.

In August 2009, Halston, in partnership with Elizabeth Arden, will introduce a modern interpretation of the award-winning Halston signature fragrances. HALSTON WOMAN and HALSTON MAN are inspired by the classic Halston fragrances and reflect the casual elegance and luxury of the Halston fashion aesthetic.

HALSTON WOMAN

“Reintroducing the Halston fragrance was a natural evolution for the brand. Fragrance is a representative of personal style and we wanted to bring Halston’s design principles to a genre beyond apparel.”-Bonnie Takhar President & CEO, Halston

HALSTON MAN

Created to honor the classic Halston brand, HALSTON WOMAN and HALSTON MAN can be described in a word – chic. These scents, evoke an attitude of effortless glamour and luxury. Incorporating notes from their predecessors, HALSTON WOMAN and HALSTON MAN stay true to the legendary design sensibility of Roy Halston himself.

“The Halston fragrances are considered among the great fragrances in history. We wanted to create an homage to the original Halston men’s and women’s fragrances. We drew upon the original fragrance structures and crafted fresh interpretations of the original fragrance accords. We then washed the iconic fragrance bottles with a warm platinum finish which is beautiful and modern. We did this work with a reverence and respect for the brilliant work that came before us. It was an honor to have this opportunity.”- Ron Rolleston Executive Vice President, Global Marketing, Elizabeth Arden

To create HALSTON WOMAN and HALSTON MAN, Elizabeth Arden turned to one of the masters of modern perfumery, Carlos Benaim, Vice President of Perfumery at International Flavors and Fragrances. Early in his career, Mr. Benaim trained with renowned perfumer, Bernard Chant, creator of the original Halston fragrance. In subsequent years, Mr. Benaim also collaborated with Halston to create the limited edition fragrance HALSTON 101. Mr. Benaim created these new fragrances by introducing new luxurious ingredients and updating the structures of the original scents.

“My vision was to create a contemporary expression of the original Halston fragrances and capture the sensuality and luxury inherent in Halston’s personality.”- Carlos Benaim

Halston Today: A new era for Halston fashion began in 2007 when Tamara Mellon, founder and President of Jimmy Choo, recognized an outstanding opportunity for the Halston brand. Along with Hilco Consumer Capital, Harvey Weinstein and Bonnie Takhar, President and CEO of Halston, they brought their vision to life. The renewed Halston fashion brand paid homage to the iconic designer’s aesthetic of impeccable sensuality and grace. The inaugural collection was revealed during New York Fashion Week in February 2008 and brought full circle a career that truly began at the top.
