Back in 2009, Bond No. 9, the New York-based artisanal fragrance company, was approached by Harrods, the world’s most celebrated specialty store, to create two exclusive eaux de parfum—one for men and one for women. The resulting Harrods for Him and Harrods for Her, captured the flavor of the Anglo-American entente cordiale and became runaway best-sellers.

They were soon followed, first by Harrods Special Edition and then by Harrods Rose—which continued the best-seller tradition. Now comes the fifth entry in this record-breaking transatlantic collection: Harrods Amber, a shared male-female scent which perfectly conveys the elegance and style of London—global capital of cosmopolitanism. (After all, Bond No. 9, purveyor of New York-centric scents, knows a thing or two about cosmopolitan fragrances.)

Velvety smooth and assured, Harrods Amber is as seductive as a glass of scotch, neat. Its starter spice notes—saffron, nutmeg, white peppercorns—mingled with citrusy bergamot, segue into captivating mid-notes of rose, jasmine, and osmanthus. These are preparation for the all-important lingering base notes: Magical oud, sandalwood, musk, and myrrh mixed with honey-like, earthy, golden-warm amber, which emerges as the key component of this tantalizing scent, valued since antiquity for its seamless seductiveness.

Like its predecessors in the Bond No. 9 for Harrods collection, the Harrods Amber bottle design is a decorative network of Harrods’ signature H, displayed in gold against an amber-colored (of course) background, with the Bond No. 9/Harrods gold token serving as centerpiece logo. The complimentary golden-amber tones create a subtle but spellbinding visual harmony. The jewel-like cap, in semi-transparent amber, continues that effect.

Topshop has landed in Harrods and Harvey Nichols country. The British fast-fashion retailer is upping its game with a new, 14,000-square-foot Knightsbridge store — complete with a circular staircase made from granite, steel and glass inspired by the one at the Louvre.

Perfume Portraits – The Process

Seated at a beautiful bespoke testing table, trained staff take notes about the client’s likes and dislikes, favourite perfumes and other aromas. The customer is then invited to smell three raw ingredients from seven different families; hesperedic, light floral, intense floral, balsamic, oriental, woody and atmospheric. The scent of each raw ingredient is embedded in a unique black and gold ceramic stone especially created for Ormonde Jayne’s new Perfume Portraits.

At this stage they are only asking the client to say if they like the aroma or not, and not to try to relate the scent to a perfume they might wear. Perfume Portraits is simply about letting personal taste be guided by your mind’s limitless scope to decipher the aromas around you. Concluding the experience, they suggest two or three Ormonde Jayne perfumes that may suit by summarizing the favoured oils. Again, the favoured perfumes are presented on a second collection of black and gold ceramic stones. You will then choose the perfume you like best. Sometimes this could be two or three perfumes and they then spray the chosen perfume onto the wrists.

While waiting for the perfume to develop, they discuss your personal Perfume Portrait. This is something you can take home and keep for future reference and they also keep a copy in case a loved one should drop by and want to know what you have chosen in the past.

Perfume Portraits is available at the flagship store in The Royal Arcade 0ld Bond Street and at the new Ormonde Jayne counter in The Perfume Hall on the ground hall of Harrods.

Look Good… Feel Better charity charity helps women manage the visible side effects of cancer treatments, by focusing on the fact that not all “medication” is prescribed by doctors.

Harrods firmly believes that there’s a red out there for everyone, so they invited the top makeup artists from all of their cosmetics houses to help you find your perfect shade of red, whilst raising money for Look Good… Feel Better.

Thursday 28th May is Red Lipstick Day and you are invited to Harrods to learn how to achieve that perfect red pout. Personal consultations will be available from a variety of celebrity makeup artists, or for £1 you can become a scarlet starlet with a personal assessment and application by one of Harrods’ cosmetic brand’s mobile makeup artists who will be on hand throughout the store.

All proceeds raised during this in-store promotion will go to Look Good…Feel Better charity.

• Celebrity make-up artists from Beauty’s biggest names will be on-hand to give customers make-overs which accentuate and compliment red lips. Highlights include MAC’s head of make-up artistry Terry Barber;
