For the 2012 Billboard Music Awards red carpet, John Frieda’s International Creative Consultant Harry Josh gave pop star Carly Rae Jepson a super sleek rock n roll blow out.

Carly Rae Jepson by Harry Josh at the 2012 Billboard Music Awards

HOW TO GET THE PERFECT BLOW-OUT

“Movement is key,” says Josh who applied John Frieda Full Repair Style Revival Heat Activated Styling Spray ($9.99) to Carly Rae’s wet hair before blow drying to ensure her final look would have shine and a flexible hold that will last throughout the night.

After blowdrying he flat ironed her hair section by section. “The heat from the flat iron is what helped to lock in shine. Style Revival, which is formulated with lightweight Inca Ichi Oil, helped to protect Carly Rae’s hair from the potential damage from the high heat of the flat iron.”

To finish off the look, Harry used a touch of John Frieda Frizz-Ease Hair Serum Thermal Protection Formula ($9.99) on the ends to seal in shine.

Rose Byrne revealed a whole new look on the red carpet tonight at the 2012 SAG Awards. Rose’s stylist and John Frieda International Creative Consultant Harry Josh says that her new look is “70′s inspired with a modern twist. Think Michelle Pfeiffer in Scarface meets a modern day Anna Wintour.”

How to get Rose Byrne’s hairdo at the 2012 SAG Awards

“It’s the epitome of chic, just like Rose.” – Harry Josh

Here is how Harry styled Rose’s new 70′s inspired bob to go with her chic white Elie Saab jumpsuit for the red carpet:

Step 1 – Saturate the Roots with a Volumizer

“I needed to get a lot of lift at the roots. Without that, the look would just fall flat,” says Harry. On wet hair, he applied tons of John Frieda Full Repair Root Lift Foam ($6.99) which not only gave him the weightless lift that he needed, but also helped to protect against damage caused by heat styling.

Step 2 – Protect the ends

Harry applied the Full Repair Perfect Ends Deep Infusion ($9.99) to smooth the ends and make sure they looked healthy and groomed since her new cut is so blunt.

Step 3 – Blow Dry with a Round Brush

Section by section, Harry used a natural bristle brush and angled the blow dryer down to get maximum shine.

Step 4 – Place Velco Rollers at the Crown

Harry used the rollers to lock in the volume.

Harry Josh who is a top celebrity hairstylist and John Frieda’s International Creative Consultant shares with Talking Makeup his tips for creating Rose Byrne’s hairstyle at the Get Him To The Greek Premiere.

STEP 1: Harry began by applying John Frieda’s Root Awakening Strength Restoring Smoothing Lotion to Rose’s wet hair – making it more manageable for styling.

STEP 2: Harry blow dryed the hair with a round brush – gently pulling it straight.

STEP 3: Using a ¾ inch curling iron, he wrapped each section of her hair around the iron, with it pointed down. Then he brushed out the curls until he achieved the perfect wave.

Amanda Seyfried Oscars 2010: The Hairstyle

Harry Josh, John Frieda International Creative Consultant, is sharing his styling secrets on how to get Oscar presenter Amanda Seyfried’s cool, understated hairdo with easy-to-use tips and tricks.

Harry gave Amanda the new Frizz-Ease Smooth Start Hydrating Shampoo and Conditioner in advance as the frizz-fighting formula was essential to smooth and hydrate dry strands and replenish moisture for a nice, smooth blow out.

“These shampoos and conditioners were the perfect way for Amanda to prep her hair,” said Harry. “The look was flat, clean and sleek, so it was important to start the fight against frizz early so that Amanda’s hair would be silky, shiny and totally manageable.”

Harry applied the new Root Awakening Strength Restoring Gel to Amanda’s hair at the roots to help achieve the sleek, flattened shape he was going for. Using a tail comb instead of a round brush to avoid lift, Harry blew the hair out, combing it flat to the head as he dried.

Harry then used the Sheer Blonde Crystal Clear Shape & Shimmer Hairspray section by section to hold the style. “Amanda has such beautiful naturally blonde hair that I wanted to ensure it looked its best all night and didn’t photograph dark – which some finishing sprays can cause. By using a light hairspray you avoid adding residue or darkening the blonde hair.”

Harry finished by creating an extreme, slick side part and pulling Amanda’s hair back into a bun. He left a little bit of the bun sticking out in a fan, a last minute decision he made to reflect the pattern on Amanda’s earrings.

New York Fashion Week. Show: BCBG Max Azria AW 2010. Hairstyle by John Frieda.

The modern, asymmetrical ensembles that ruled the runway were completed with a contemporary, sleek hairstyle created by John Frieda International Creative Consultant Harry Josh.

“The collection had a clean, modern feel,” says Harry. “I wanted to complement that aesthetic with a very comfortable and effortlessly chic look. The inspiration came from the models themselves, who would come into casting and quickly pull their hair back into a bun. I really wanted to create a look that a woman wearing BCBG would sport herself, since the looks on the runway were also extremely wearable.”

Hair Tutorial:

Harry began by applying John Frieda’s Frizz-Ease Take Charge Mousse to dry hair and blow drying, using his fingers instead of a brush to separate the hair from the root and create texture. The technique was crucial to recreating the “pulled back” look any girl would get while styling her own hair.

Once the hair was secured in a low pony, Harry added a small amount of John Frieda’s new Root Awakening Strength Restoring Smoothing Lotion to the ends of the hair to ensure the tips were healthy looking and defined. He then wrapped the pony into a twisted bun, leaving the tips of the hair sticking out in a fan-like “fringe.”

“The fringe really completed the look made this low, classic bun a modern, chic style,” says Harry.

Products:
John Frieda Frizz-Ease Take Charge Mousse, $5.50
John Frieda Root Awakening Strength Restoring Smoothing Lotion, $6.50

Last week I had the pleasure to join a webcast from New York City hosted by the John Frieda experts: John Frieda, Harry Josh, Luigi Murenu.

John Frieda

It was amazing to finally see the man behind truly one of my favorite brands ever, John Frieda. I can’t never forget when one day after I moved to New York City from Israel back in 1991, my sister told me that I MUST get this hair serum! It was the beginning of a new era in my life. The era of straight sleek hair. And a goodbye to the mousse-full big hair. In other words, the John Frieda Frizz-Ease Hair Serum is one product that revolutionized my (beauty) life.

What sets the John Frieda brand from the rest is that it grew from John’s salon in London. Mr John Frieda himself was using these products in his salon and working with fashion magazines, such as : British Vogue. Mr Frieda also was one of the first of ‘celebrity hair stylists’. Back in the 1970′s it was a whole new concept. Most hairdressers were known for cut and blow dry and not ‘stylists’.

It seems to me that the John Frieda hair care line was created in the right place and right time. Styling products didn’t exist in the 1970′s all the way to the late 80′s. Most people simply used the mousse. Luckily the big hair was in therefore no one complained. What also interesting to find out is that frizzy hair was never mentioned or addressed. It is quite astonishing because frizzy hair or frizz prone hair is quite popular (I know I have it). So John Frieda created not only a unique product but also a product people want! Later on the John Frieda continued to create product with this prescriptive approach. Think: their hair care line for different hair colors (sheer blonde collection), and their latest the John Frieda luxurious Volume collection for thin limp hair. And, Root Awakening. The brand also collaborates with top hair stylists and professionals such as Harry Josh and Luigi Murenu to make sure they are on the cutting edge of fashion.

John Frieda insisted that it’s not enough to just have the right styling product, you need to have the right technique of application. For example, he talked about how to apply Frizz Ease Hair Serum.

1. Make sure your hair is saturated with water, and we mean, soaking wet. The product works best on wet hair to seal and transform the hair cuticle’s texture and stay flat, hence, no frizz.
2. Do not towel dry, comb, or shake your hair from side to side or up and down.
3. Take a dime size of product and emulsify in your hands
4. Gently press into hair. Distribution is a key.
5. Gently squeeze the hair when applying product.
6. Don’t over dry. Tip: if the hair feels cool when you touch after blow drying that means your hair is still wet. As soon as your begins to feel hot it means moisture has completely evaporated from your hair.
7. Good luck:)

It was truly inspiring listening to Mr John Frieda speak. He came across as a person who is extremely passionate about his brand.

Hair Trends by John Frieda experts:

Hair Trends according to John Frieda’s Luigi Murenu: waves, curls,& sleek are all IN, “pretty much nothing new” but he sees a “huge come back of the hair cut”. Think Rihanna and Katie Holmes.

Hair Trends according to John Frieda’s Harry Josh: “monochromatic & bold hair colors” less highlights and more single-process, which sounds so much better for your wallet:)

On Monday, May 18th, Paris Hilton was spotted at Cannes Film Festival 2009 by the pool at Hotel Du Cap in France looking very summery!

See how Paris Hilton is tuned in to the latest summer hair trends wearing a headband. In my recent interview with Harry Josh, Gisele’s colorist for years, and John Frieda’s International Creative Director, he told me that hair accessories are a big summer hair trend!

“We are seeing a lot of loose waves, natural tousled hair, nothing too styled because the summer heat makes hairstyles staying looking good for long difficult. We are also seeing a lot of hair accessories such as: headbands, hair clips, and hair combs.”-Harry Josh.

Hair accessories look chic and yet almost very functional in keeping your hair away from your face. Paris is also wearing a light aqua blue bathing suit and shorts which blend beautifully into the Mediterranean background.
