This is revolutionary and I’m quite impressed with Jessica Simpson’s move to pose without makeup and all natural on the cover of Marie Claire Magazine May 2010 edition. With the success of reality TV and our growing interest in watching real people why not show realism on Magazine covers too. Looks like posing nude for Playboy is not the only way to grab my attention. Star of VH1 ‘s “The Price of Beauty” sets a good example for young women and all women to love and embrace the way they look. This is a good line: “I don’t have anything to prove anymore. What other people think of me is not my business.”-Jessica Simpson. I should always remember that!

L to R: Victoria Beckham, Ken Paves, Jessica Simpson, and Heidi Klum

The Hair Tutorial by Ken Paves: “Victoria is a gorgeous woman and wears her short hair well! It always looks so effortless, yet elegant and modern. For the Vanity Fair Oscar Party, we enhanced the volume but kept it sleek.

On her damp hair, I first sprayed my Volumizing Spray (Ken Paves Healthy Hair Volumizing Spray, $22: Ulta) all over and blow dried (Ken Paves Hair Dryer, $100: Ulta) with a vent brush for shape and volume. I created a part in the middle, and tucked her hair behind her ears, enhancing the shine with a touch of shine serum. Then, keeping her longer bangs in the front, I simply pulled them to each side for some added dimension. She looked amazing!”

L to R: Jessica Simpson and Ken Paves via www.facebook.com/kenpaves

The Hair Tutorial by Ken Paves: “I created an updo on Jessica that’s young and fresh, but still sophisticated and modern depending on which angle you view it from. I started off on her air-dried hair, and sprayed my Ken Paves Volumizing Spray ($22: Ulta) all over, and began curling it with my 1 inch curling iron (Ken Paves Curling Iron, $60: Ulta) to give the hair some bend.

Then, I brushed it out with a Mason Pearson paddle brush to loosen the curls, and starting to twist the side into her hair, pinning it to secure. With the remaining hair in the back, I created a loose chignon. I used my fingers to create a wave to the front and finished off with some of my Ken Paves Strong Hold Hair Spray ($22: Ulta) to finish the look. If you want to re-create the look of the chignon, I actually created one for Hairdo and it will be launching in April 2010 on QVC for $44! Stay tuned!”

Thank you Ken Paves we love you:)

Stand out this season with perfect holiday hair!

This is the time of year for celebration, and you want to make sure you look as great as you feel. These tips and products from celebrity hair stylist Ken Paves, whose clients include Jessica Simpson, Jennifer Lopez and Eva Longoria Parker – are all you need to get party-worthy hair in a snap.

For a fun alternative to your everyday hair style, clip in hairdo’s Wrap-Around Pony ($49: QVC.com). This easy-to-do style looks chic and effortless, and it only takes minutes to do! The Wrap-Around Pony instantly adds length and volume to your hair, and can be heat styled to achieve any desired texture. Stars like Blake Lively have wowed on the red carpet by sporting this fun, flirty look.

For a dramatic transformation without the commitment, try hairdo’s Clip-In Bangs ($29: QVC.com). They’re perfect for changing up your look in an instant, and a sure way to turn heads at your next holiday party! Reese Witherspoon recently switched up her style by getting cute, face-framing bangs.

To add a little oomph to your updo, try hairdo’s Bump Up the Volume ($99: QVC.com). Just clip it in to get thick, voluminous locks – no teasing necessary! You can style it into a twist or chignon to get an instant elegant style that will look like it took hours. Celebrities like Jessica Alba and Beyonce are known to rock this look with full, gorgeous updo’s.

To customize each of these looks to your hair’s unique length and texture, use Ken Paves Professional Styling Tools ($60-$100). The collection includes a Hair Dryer

Styling Iron

Curling Iron

Celebrity Esthetician Renée Rouleau

Hot weather, salt water, humidity and chlorine take their toll on our skin during the summer months. Here’s some of my summer skin care tips and solutions for keeping your skin safe and beautiful all summer long.

1. Wearing sunscreen everyday will significantly cut back on accumulative sun damage:

Recent information from the UCLA skin research department indicates that 78% of all the sun damage incurred in a lifetime is from incidental exposure! You may say “I’m not out at all during the day” but just walking to your car, and even driving in your car will expose you to unnecessary sun damage. Windshields do nothing to protect you from UV rays! Wear a moisturizer that contains a sun block with a minimum of SPF #15. Apply it in the morning so you’ll be covered all day! Try Renée Rouleau Daily Protection SPF #30…

2. It’s not about the SPF number, it’s how often and how much you re-apply your sunscreen:

People are always asking me which SPF number should they use. The truth is, an SPF 30 only offers 4% more protection than an SPF 15. You would have thought it was double the protection, right? As you get up in the higher numbers (SPF 45, 50, 70 +) that percentage comes down, but you’re also exposing your skin to more chemicals which might result in a negative reaction on the skin. The key to protecting your skin in the sun is to re-apply your sunscreen generously at least every two hours. A little dab won’t do ya…you need to slather it on.

3. For those who suffer from back breakouts, avoid hair conditioner containing panthenol:

If back breakouts trouble you, it could be an ingredient in your hair conditioner that’s causing the problem. Panthenol, well-known for its benefit for strengthening the hair, may be a potential pore-clogger. Why the back? Simply because when you rinse out hair conditioner, a residue of the product stays on your back. Use hair products that do not contain Panthenol, exfoliate your back with a mild cleansing gel and exfoliating cloth three times a week and apply an anti-bacterial lotion and your back will be clear for summer.

4. Avoid dairy products if your skin is prone to breakouts:

With the heat and humidity in the summer, break outs are a real concern for a lot of people. And we’ve all heard that greasy foods and chocolate cause breakouts. In our experience, when breakouts are cyst-like in the chin and jawline area, most often this is related to excessive dairy products in your diet. Try cutting out cheese, milk, ice cream, and frozen yogurt, and watch your skin clear up! There are many other ways to get calcium in your diet; broccoli, asparagus and orange juice. Try Renée Rouleau Anti-Cyst Treatment for stubborn cystic breakouts.

5. When soothing a sunburn, avoid applying lotion. Instead use cold yogurt!

Okay, so you thought you had on plenty of sunscreen and the next thing you know, you got fried. A common misconception about soothing a sunburn is that you should keep re-applying lotion (especially aloe vera-based lotion) to keep the skin moist. But layering lotion on sunburned skin traps heat, keeping the skin red longer. Skin must breathe to let out heat. Cold plain yogurt applied to the skin works as an anti-inflammatory and heat remover. Apply, let dry for 15 minutes, and rinse. Repeat every hour.

6. Blot, blot, blot:

Although there is no miracle product to control the extra oil that you get during the summer months, there are ways to keep that shine under control. Oil blotting papers are great to use during the day to actually remove the oils off the skin to give you the feel of freshly washed skin. In a pinch? The type of paper used for toilet seat covers in public restrooms is similar to expensive oil blotting papers. Tear off a piece of this and press firmly on the skin. Voila!

The bottom line…

The #1 cause of lines and wrinkles is sun exposure. If you want to look young, avoid the sun. It’s really that simple. A little sun damage = a little damage. A lot of sun = a lot of damage.

So, It’s no secret that celebrities turn to extensions when the sudden crave for long hair kicks in, but it’s the recent photos of super star Katie Holmes that has everyone talking.

Katie Holmes recently turned her infamous bob into cascading long waves, leaving everyone wondering how it could have been done and still look so natural?

One way to achieve the look is with Great Lengths Extensions – the semi-permanent extension system for some of Hollywood’s elite. In addition to the superior quality of the human hair used by Great Lengths, the other reason it’s favored among the famous is because of how safe and gentle it is on one’s real hair.

Katie Holmes and her daughter Suri with her old hairstyle, the short bob.

Unlike other hair extension systems, the integrity of one’s natural strands is never compromised and applied in-salon by certified stylists, so the only risk one tales by having them is looking better than before.

Want a quick-fix option? Then opt for hairdo Clip-In Extensions by Ken Paves and Jessica Simpson to simply transform your entire look in seconds.

hairdo Clip-In Extensions are a one-piece extension system that clips into your hair, adding volume, texture and length. Available in variety of lengths, styles and shades, you can makeover your look every day.

I recently interviewed the fabulous celebrity hair stylist Ken Paves for Beauty Interviews.com.

I know Ken Paves was attacked by the paparazzi after dining at Madeo on Beverly Boulevard on Saturday night with Jessica Simpson, so I really hope Ken is doing well.

Ken Paves was dubbed by the media as “the hottest hairdressers in Hollywood”. Ken Paves is often recognized as Jessica Simpson’s hair stylist and for his work with a variety of other high profile clients, such as: Jennifer Lopez, Eva Longoria Parker, Fergie, and Jessica Alba to name a few. In this interview, Ken Paves talks about his beginning as a professional hair stylist doing several international magazine covers with Nikki Taylor, how did his business relationship with Jessica Simpson evolve, how did the concept for Hairdo a line of clip-in-hair extensions come about, his must-have hair styling tools and products, and why using self-expression is so important when it comes to hair.

Marta Walsh: When did your interest in hair design begin?
Ken Paves: I grew up with my father working 7 days a week in the auto industry. My mom worked part time jobs and raised 3 boys. I would sit outside of my mom’s bathroom as a “spectator” whenever she would do her hair and make up. This was only usually during the holidays or family functions. I was in awe at how these rare moments of self made her feel. My mom is my muse and has also appeared in the media with me. When my father retired from the auto industry after 32 years, he made me promise him I would choose a job that I would love to do after 32 years. It’s been 14 years and I still love it. I love to help women recognize their own beauty and to feel confident about themselves – that is beautiful.

MW: What was your biggest break as a professional hair stylist?
KP: I studied hair design at the prestigious Vidal Sassoon Academy, the Toni & Guy Institute and alongside world-renowned hair stylists during his tours of Europe to work on couture collections for Versace and Valentino, to name a few. My work began to grace the covers of international fashion magazines in 1996. In 1996 I had several International Magazine covers with Nikki Taylor and then moved to New York.

MW: You are famous as an incredibly talented hair stylist but also famous for working with Jessica Simpson. How did your business relations with Jessica evolve?
KP: We first met in 1998 on the set of one of Jessica’s first music videos. Her hair was cut really, really short at the time and her record label wanted to quickly make it long, so I ended up using extensions on her that day and we’ve pretty much have worked together ever since.

MW: How did the concept for Hairdo, a line of clip-in hair extensions, come about, and what makes it such a seller?
KP: I designed hairdo to be incredibly modern. That meant there would be a casual elegance to hair, while adding volume and texture. ‘Sexy’ hair is always in, but today’s sexy hair is beautiful and natural, each hairdo piece was designed with this in mind. Each piece is copied exactly from one of the original pieces that I had handmade for Jessica, based on my haircuts and styles.

MW: Besides working with Jessica Simpson, which other celebrity collaborations do you find most memorable?
KP: I love working with all of them! I also work with Eva Longoria Parker, Ashlee Simpson, Jennifer Lopez, and others. All of these collaborations are memorable in their own way!

MW: How do you go about choosing a hairstyle for a celebrity?
KP: I sometimes decide to wait and see what the wardrobe would be so after the fitting, I started pulling my inspiration, and from there the hair direction comes very naturally.

MW: What tips can you give us for choosing the right hair color and cut?
KP: You should always take into consideration your skin tone and face shape, but also if you want to experiment with a look, you should give it a shot, without a commitment. This is what I love about wigs and extensions, you can play with looks you wouldn’t imagine going into a salon for, but if you love (or hate it) then you can take the steps to committing to a color change, or cut.

MW: What are some of your must-have hair styling tools and products?
KP: You must have a great brush, I love using a combination boar bristle and nylon – boar is great to distribute shine, and nylon for detangling. Also, hairspray is a good styling product to always have in a pinch if nothing else. It can smooth loose strands, create volume and texture, give hold and shine; it’s a miracle product.

MW: What is your main philosophy regarding hair?
KP: Use self-expression. The way we present ourselves tells the world a lot about us. Don’t tell the world you want to look like everyone else. Define a sense of beauty true to yourself, and Change your hair as often as you change your mind! It should be fun.

MW: To what do you attribute your success in becoming one of Hollywood’s most sought after hairdressers?
KP: I believe when I work with women they really feel that I am there for them, 100% about them, and that my sole goal is to make them feel beautiful, which in return resonates as outward beauty.

MW: What is the most enjoyable part of your job?
KP: Doing something that’s exactly what I want to do being creative, and working with people that are amazing, talented people.

MW: What projects are you working on these days and what’s next for Ken Paves?
KP: We are always looking for innovative and new ideas so just wait and see what comes next!

It was a pleasure to interview Ken you can find out more about him at his official website: www.kenpaves.com .

Also Hairdo by Ken Paves is available on HSN.
