“The feeling Kirsten and I were going for was flirty, undone, with a bit of whimsical to play off the very girly Dolce & Gabbana headband.”-Marcus Francis

HOW TO

“I prepped the hair with Phyto Volume Actif on damp hair and blew the hair dry with a boar’s hair round brush. Keeping the hairlines smooth while allowing for flyaways elsewhere, I sectioned the hair on the side from the front with a middle part down the back. I applied Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray throughout for added texture. Placing the headband back from the hairline leaving a bit of swoop of the bangs, I took three sections on each side and randomly twisted and pinned upward close to the headband. Subtle flyways add to this style making more wearable and modern and less feeling like a wedding.”

“Silky luminous beige and rusty rose reflect the light and help open up the eye. Diorshow Blackout Mascara lifts and defines her lash. We groomed her brows with MAC Eye Brows Crayon in Fling and brushed through them with Dior Brow Gel for shape to finish this fresh yet done up look. We then paired her eye with a great saturated flesh tone lip and cheek -YSL Rouge Volupte Lipstick in Ultimate Beige and Stila Convertible Color in Lilium.

“The look at the Sundance film festival is about being comfortable, warm, with your own touch of effortless style. With the heavy snow that day, we both thought the hair should be worn up and with lots of texture to work with the elements outside. Because braids work so well with Kirsten’s style and face shape, a version of a Heidi braid would suit her for the premiere.”

How to get Kirsten Dunst’s hairdo

“Prep the hair with a volumizer like Phyto Volume Actif Spray throughout the hair to build a thickness in the texture. Rough dry with your hands while blow drying. Make a deep side part and section off to start a reverse French braid (aka corn row) along the hairline, all the way around the head. Stop the braid behind the ear on the same side as your part. Take the remaining hair on the opposite side and twist back until it joins with the braid. Keep twisting to form a loose undone roll. Use a variety of large and small hair pains to secure throughout the braid and loose roll. To get a dusty matte finish, spray Rene Furterer Naturia Dry Shampoo throughout the hair, and pull out a few loose pieces in front to frame your face. This look can be a little tricky to do on your own – ask a friend help you out to sport this braided style!”

Kirsten Dunst not only blew us away in Melancholia, she also won us over with the gorgeous beauty looks makeup artist Sabrina Bedrani created for her two of the award-winning actress’s special nights in Cannes 2011.

To complement the award-winning actress’s CHANEL Haute Couture strapless dress, Sabrina created Kirsten’s gorgeous, glowing face using CHANEL Vitalumiere Aqua Ultra-Light Skin Perfecting Makeup SPF 15 in Beige Rosé Tendre and highlighting her cheeks with CHANEL Powder Blush in Rose Écrin (available July 2011), Kirsten’s eyes were adorned with Illusion D’Ombre de Chanel Long Wear Luminous Eyeshadow in Epatant (available July 2011) and her lashes were lengthened with CHANEL Inimitable Intense Mascara in Noir. Sabrina finished the look with CHANEL Rouge Allure Lipstick in Passion.

For Kirsten’s first red carpet appearance at Cannes, Sabrina used CHANEL Vitalumiere Aqua Ultra-Light Skin Perfecting Makeup SPF 15 in Beige Rosé Tendre to highlight her complexion and CHANEL Powder Blush in Rose Écrin (available July 2011) on the cheeks. Sabrina used Illusion D’Ombre de Chanel Long Wear Luminous Eyeshadow in Emerveillé (available July 2011) on the eyelids to create a neutral shimmer, and Precision Eye Definer in Khaki Platine (available July 2011) to define the eyes. To complete the look she used CHANEL Inimitable Mascara in Noir on the eyelashes and applied CHANEL Rouge Allure Lipstick in Enthusiast to the lips.

Marta Walsh has the scoop about the gorgeous makeup look that Pati Dubroff, Clarins Celebrity Beauty Artist created for Kirsten Dunst last night at the 2011 MET Gala.

Pati was inspired by Kirsten’s beautiful Chanel dress with sparkling sequins and mineral stones sewn into the bodice. She wanted these natural gems to be reflected in her makeup.

Skin: First the skin was prepped with Instant Smooth Line Correcting Concentrate to fill in any imperfections and help hold foundation. Next, she used a light amount of Skin Illusion Foundation to even the skin without creating a mask. For the blush, she generously applied Blush Prodige in Miami Pink from the apples of the cheeks swept up toward the hairline for a healthy, romantic feel.

Eyes: Playing with the Clarins NeoPastels Eye Palette, Pati created a gorgeous, jeweled eye for Kirsten. She sculpted the bones of her eye with the dusty rose colour, and on the center of the lids used the taupey opal. Finally, she washed the whole eye with the bluish lavender shade – just like an opal stone! One minimal coat of Wonder Perfect Mascara was all that was needed to finish the eyes.

Lips: A soft, violet rose completed the look with Rouge Prodige in Lilac Pink.

Kate Bosworth and Kirsten Dunst wore CHANEL makeup at MOCA’s 2010 Annual Gala, “The Artist’s Museum Happening” sponsored by CHANEL Fine Jewelry on Saturday, November 13th. Their makeup artists Amy Nadine and Kayleen McAdams share with Marta Walsh their tips on how to recreate their gorgeous red carpet looks.

“Because Kate’s CHANEL gown was so elegant, I wanted her make-up look to be fresh and radiant. I kept her face dewy and alive by priming with CHANEL Illuminating Makeup Base then applied CHANEL Vitalumiere Foundation in Clair with a sponge, and used very minimal powder, concentrating on her nose, chin and hairline.

I gave her cheeks a flush of color by dusting the apples with Les Tissages de CHANEL Blush Duo Tweed Effect in Tweed Fuchsia. Next I shaded her top and bottom lids with a sweep of a light shimmer taupe with CHANEL Soft Touch Eye Shadow in Safari, defined her brows with Le Sourcil de CHANEL then followed with two coats of CHANEL Inimitable Mascara in Noir. I finished the look with a creamy rosy-pink lip CHANEL Rouge Coco Lip Colour in Magnolia.”

“I knew the night was all about Chanel! On Kirsten’s eyes, I used CHANEL Soft Touch Eyeshadow in Sillage, with a bit of CHANEL Fluid Iridescent Eyeshdow in Cascade. For the lashes I used CHANEL Inimitable Intense Mascara in Noir. On her face I used a bit of CHANEL Natural Finish Pressed Powder in Clair. Finally, I kept the focus on her lips, applying CHANEL Rouge Allure Lip Colour in Lover, the perfect red lip shade.”

Miranda Kerr’s hairstyle (in images below) reminds me of Kirsten Dunst’s hairstyle for the 2009 CFDA Fashion Awards. Kirsten’s hair was styled there by Pantene’s celebrity hairstylist, Hallie Bowman. I don’t normally wear my hair up, it’s a habit I find very difficult to break. But, I must say, I wouldn’t mind to wear my hair like this (if I ever get invited to a red carpet event…a gal can dream:) I’ve first learned about The Mixed Textured Chignon by Hallie, and Marta calls it: ‘The modern Chignon’. This is a great alternative to the classic Chignon. Not too many people look great with their hair pulled tight and away from face like in a classic Chignon. It can look a bit harsh. Thoughts?

Kirsten Dunst’s hairstyle for the 2009 CFDA Fashion Awards

The other day Pantene Nature Fusion Smoothing Creme from Pantene’s Smooth Vitality hair care line saved my hair. I was swimming a lot lately and spent some time in the sun with my guests from England.  All which took a toll on my hair. I needed to add back moisture and silkiness to my hair. The spray was used on Kirsten to get one of the hottest hair trends or looks on the red carpet: The Mixed Textured Chignon. The spray was used ro create volume at the top of the hair.

The key to getting The Mixed Textured Chignon: Instead of smoothing the front part of your hair tight to your scalp, you actually leave the short part of your hair around the face loose and wavy, while the back is in a soft chignon.
