BRIDAL MAKEUP INSPIRATION

For the Marchesa Bridal Spring 2013 Runway Show, Talia Shobrook, lead makeup artist for the show, was inspired by the fashionable and fresh Marchesa bride-to-be. The makeup look she created was whimsical and effervescent. By carefully selecting a palette of warm and diffused colours, she was able to develop the natural flush that people love for brides, evoking a woman that is both innocent and sensual.

HOW TO

FACE: According to Shobrook, “flawless skin with a fresh and dewy finish was the foundation of the look.”

· First, Talia mixed Laura Mercier Mega-Moisturizer Crème SPF 15 with Laura Mercier Foundation Primer Radiance to add a subtle glow to the skin.

· She then covered under eye circles with Laura Mercier Secret Concealer and covered any spots or redness with Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage.

· Next, she applied Laura Mercier Silk Crème Foundation to the face.

· Lastly, she used Laura Mercier Invisible Loose Setting Powder in the T-zone, for control shine, leaving the rest of the skin dewy and fresh.

EYES: According to Shobrook, “we chose to highlight the eye, to add to the allure that a bride’s sparkling eyes have on her wedding day.”

· First, Talia mixed Laura Mercier Sateen Eye Colours Stellar and Primrose and applied them on the lid from lashline to the crease.

· Next, she softly contoured the crease with Laura Mercier Matte Eye Colour in Fresco.

· Using Laura Mercier Baked Eye Colour in Ballet Pink, she dipped a Laura Mercier Fine Point Eye Liner Brush into water and swirled around the Eye Colour to pick up the product, then drew a line across the lashline, with a slight flick at the outer corner. The eyeliner should be thin, and bright.

· On the lower lashline, she used a Laura Mercier Flat Eye Liner Brush to apply Laura Mercier Matte Eye Colour in Truffle just at the lashline and blended slightly to soften.

· Lastly, she finished with a layer of Laura Mercier Long Lash Mascara and another layer of Laura Mercier Full Blown Volume Lash Building Mascara to the lashes in the center of the eye.

LIPS & CHEEKS: “By using the same product on the eyes and lips, we allow the fresh-faced bride to only have to carry one product for touch-ups. The creamy formula adds a lovely natural flush to the face,” Shobrook concluded.

· On the cheeks, Talia applied Laura Mercier Crème Smooth Lip Colour in Mango (NEW, launching September 2012) to the apples of the cheeks and blended to give a natural flush in the face. The result is a creamy smooth natural cheek color.

· The look was finished with the punchy Laura Mercier Crème Smooth Lip Colour in Mango (NEW, launching September 2012) blended onto the lips as well.

BEAUTY INSPIRATION

“Lea wanted a fresh, flirty and fun Palm Springs look. We wanted to keep it light since the event was during the day but play up the eyes to give it a bit of a sexy feel.”

HOW TO GET THE LOOK

“I started by prepping her skin with CHANEL Hydramax + Active Serum and Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer with SPF 15. Next I applied Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation in #7.0 and Cle De Peau Concealer in Ocra. I highlighted and bronzed the skin using Hourglass Illume Creme-To-Powder Bronzer and added a pop of color on the cheeks with NARS Orgasm Cream blush Stick. I set everything with Laura Mercier Loose Translucent Powder.

I used CHANEL Sculpting Eyebrow Pencil in Brun Naturel to fill in the brows, giving them a bit of definition and length. For the eyes, I prepped the lid with NARS Eyeshadow Primer and then used Dior ‘5 Couleurs Lift’ Eyeshadow Palette in Amber to create a bronze smokey look. I then lined the top and lower lid with Laura Mercier eyeliner in Bronze and gently buffed it out. I finished it off with Diorshow Mascara, and added some individual lashes to open up the eyes and add a flirty effect. To complete the look and add a fun unexpected color that tied in with her swimsuit I applied CHANEL Rouge Coco Lip Colour in Chalys.”

Another great foundation find this week laura mercier oil free supreme. The magic word is oil free because I can’t stand oily foundations they feel too heavy on the skin and look too shiny. INSPIRATION: The makeup look is a modern take on the glamorous 1970s, inspired by Jerry Hall and the lyrics from the Rolling Stones song about her, “She’s a Rainbow.”

This look complemented Jenny Packham’s collection, which is inspired by gleaming skies of opal whites and azure blues, painted with lavish glittering brush strokes and arresting vivid rainbow hues of geranium reds, sunset oranges, lemon drop yellows and citrus limes, ending with dazzling encrusted Swarovski crystals in radiant golds.

FACE

“Matte, Flawless Skin”

Talia contoured the cheeks with Laura Mercier Matte Bronzer in Dune Bronze and Laura Mercier Mineral Pressed Powder in Warm Chestnut.

Talia smoothed over any imperfections using Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage.

EYES

“Dewy and natural”

Talia created a glossy texture without any liner by layering on Laura Mercier Eye Basics in Flax, then Laura Mercier Metallic Crème Eye Colour in Platinum, followed by Sequin Eye Shadow in Pink Crystal and the NEW! Laura Mercier Foundation Primer in Radiance (launching December 2011). The look was finished with Laura Mercier Lip Glacé in Crystal.

The lustrous lashes were created by layering five coats of Laura Mercier Full Blown Mascara and Laura Mercier Long Lash Mascara in Black on the top and bottom lashes.

Lastly, Talia filled in the brows and extended them out a bit using Laura Mercier Brow Definer on the eyebrows.

LIPS

“Vivid and Matte”

Talia emphasized the lip by mixing Laura Mercier Lip Pencils in Ruby, Redwood and Very Cherry.

She then made the lips pop by dabbing Laura Mercier Crème Lip Colour in Bing Cherry in the center.

Julia’s red carpet makeup was created by celebrity makeup artist Genevieve Herr who channeled a chic and modern look that played up Julia’s light brown eyes and her sleek black ensemble.

For a natural complexion, Genevieve used Lancôme’s new Teint Miracle Foundation, an amazing radiance-boosting foundation launching next month, Laura Mercier Secret Concealer and Secret Brightening Powder followed by a cream blush in plum on the apples of the cheeks. She wanted to give Julia soft, smoky eyes with a mix of blacks and plums. To achieve this, she first applied Le Crayon Khôl in Black Ebony to line the eyes and then blended shadows from Lancôme’s new fall French Coquettes collection called the French Touch Color Design Quad. Her lashes were topped with Définicils Precious Cells Mascara in Black for a full, natural lash. Terri Seymour at the Elton John Annual Oscar Party 2010: Makeup by Celebrity Makeup Artist Melissa Walsh.

“This is how I did Terri Seymour’s makeup this afternoon for Elton John’s annual Oscar party for his his Aids Foundation – if you aren’t going to the actual Academy Awards ceremony this is the place to be!”-Melissa Walsh

Base: Smooth Hourglass Cosmetics Fluid Veil evenly over the whole face blending out from the middle and downwards.

Under eyes: Dot a little Smashbox Photo-Op Eye Brightener under the eyes to brighten.

Powder: Dust Youngblood Hi Definition Hydrating Mineral Perfecting Powder lightly all over for an airbrushed look.

Blush: Swirl Cargo Blusher in Catalina on the apples of the cheeks and highlight at the top of the cheekbones with One Hot Minute by Benefit to give a fresh faced glow.

Eyes: Start with Mineral Essence Northern Lights eyeshadow in Starlite Express all over the lid up to the crease, define the crease with Mineral Essence in Mocha. Line the eyes with the black cream liner from the L’Heure de Nuit compact by Guerlain and then add sparkle by using the shimmery black from the same compact on top of the liner and at the outer edges. Line under the lower lashes with Laura Mercier’s eyeliner pencil in Black Gold and add a highlight in the inner corner of the eyes with the light gold shadow from the Dior 5 Couleurs Designer palette in Amber Design. A couple of coats of The Ultimate Mascara by Becca in black completes the eyes.

Lips: Highlight the cupids bow with Guerlain Cupidon lipliner and then line with the nude liner by Hourglass in Bare and fill in with Youngblood Lipgloss in Devotion.

Carey Mulligan Oscars 2010: The Makeup

Makeup artist Georgie Eisdell prepped Oscar nominee Carey Mulligan for the big Oscar night.

How to get Carey Mulligan’s Oscars 2010 makeup look by makeup artist Georgie Eisdell:

“This was Carey’s first Oscars so I wanted to make sure she looked age appropriate but still embrace the glamour of the night. Carey’s dress was edgy and elegant so I wanted to keep her makeup looking fresh and youthful. I wanted to enhance the natural beauty of her skin so I used La Mer foundation lightly powdered with La Mer’s translucent powder over that. For her eyes, I used Chanel soft beige and pink shadows from their spice palette. I used MAC’s black track eye liner followed by YSL’s Faux Cils mascara in black. To finish off her eyes I sharpened up her eyebrows with Laura Mercier’s soft blonde brow powder duo. For her cheeks, I wanted to give them a pinched cheek look with Dior’s glowing color powder blush in fruit de la passion. For the finishing touch on her skin, I used Bobbi Brown bronzing powder in medium. And finally on her lips I used Dior addict lip polish 004. I used La Mer body creme on the way out the door to give her body the same glow.”

I met Tayaba Zehra Jafri the lead makeup artist for Laura Mercier backstage at the Pamella Roland Spring 2010 during New York Fashion Week last month. Tayaba was kind enough to give us a sneak peek to the makeup look and to some of her Laura Mercier must-have products she used on models at the Pamella Roland show.

The Show: Pamella Roland Spring 2010 Collection.
The Trend: A luxurious spring time look that is eye focused. There is definitely a strong amount  of smoky eye, but it is a smoldering smoke. A reminiscent of the cat eye bit a little softer.
The Inspiration: The luxury glam makeup of the 50′s and 60′s and the paintings of Georgia Totto O’Keeffe.

 
Tayaba touch up the lids with a highlight of a special product called the VIP to give a little texture. A little bit of corner lashes are added to lift up the eyes. And as the look is eye focused Tayaba kept the cheeks and lips subdued. On cheeks she used Second Skin Cheek Colour in Barely Pink by Laura Mercier. To highlight the cheeks she used Illuminating Tinted Moisturizer by Laura Mercier. To add intensity inside the lashes Tayaba applied Laura Mercier Caviar Eye Liner with a brush. On the lips: HydraTint SPF 15 by Laura Mercier was applied.
