Celebrity makeup artist Dotti created Maggie Gyllenhaal’s makeup look for last night’s Metropolitan Opera gala premiere of Armida, hosted by YSL. Dotti used the Beverly Hills Multiple Tint as well as Pro-Prime Smudge-Proof Eyeshadow Base, both new products for NARS Summer 2010 makeup collection. To accent Maggie’s cheeks, Dotti opted for a very clean, nude eye.

“I liked the texture of the Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base so much that we decided to go without any color on the eyes,” Dotti said of the look. She also let us know that Maggie loved the bold colors of the NARS Summer 2010 Collection!

“I prepped Jen’s skin with CHANEL Sublimage Serum. Then, as I base I used CHANEL Mat Lumiere Fluid Makeup in Natural all over the face, with a bit of the CHANEL Natural Finish Pressed Powder in Clair. For the eyes, concealer, and cheeks, I used a fabulous new palette – Collection Essentielle de CHANEL Multi-Use Make-Up Palette in Paris-New York.

On her lids I used the light beige powder shade all over, and in the crease I applied the light brown shade. I wet that same shade, and used an eyeliner brush to line the eyes – top and bottom. Finally, I took a bit of the reddish brown shade and applied it under the eyes. The red hue in the powder really made Jen’s blue eyes pop. To finish the eyes, I applied two coats of CHANEL Inimitable Mascara.

For the cheeks, I used my fingers to dab on the cream blush from the Paris-New York palette, and dusted on my favorite bronzer, Soleil Tan de CHANEL in Desert Corail. Finally, to complete the look, I applied CHANEL Rouge Coco Lip Colour in Beige Felin, a beautiful beigy nude colour, topped with the pink glosses from the Paris-New York palette.”

INSPIRATION: Bringing wild into the city. “I wanted the makeup to have a sense of moving forward. The phillip lim man is sure of himself and never looks back,” said designer Phillip Lim.

New York Fashion Week Fall Winter 2010: NARS Cosmetics created the makeup look at the Marc Jacobs AW2010 show.

INSPIRATION: “I was inspired by the film La Vie des Autres. I wanted the models to have a dirty look as if the hair and makeup had been slept in,” said designer Marc Jacobs, who specifically requested Barbarella lipstick to be used on the models’ lips.

LOOK: “This look is what you’d see on a girl from the East Village or St. Germain des Pres-an existentialist with a modern twist,” said NARS Cosmetics Founder and Creative Director François Nars whose application technique included using his fingers to achieve the faded effect. “These girls are sexy and cool. Their makeup looks dirty and worn out as if it has been on all night but still translates beautifully on the runway.”

Makeup Tutorial: Makeup Artist Dawn Broussard collaborated with Neutrogena brand ambassador Emma Roberts to create the starlet’s look for the Hollywood premiere of “Valentine’s Day.”

How to get Emma Roberts makeup look at the Los Angeles Valentine’s Day Movie Premiere: 

Face:
To keep her skin looking beautiful on and off the red carpet, Emma regularly cleanses with Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash Redness Soothing Facial Cleanser.

For this premiere, I wanted to build a naturally flawless face while treating blemishes and preventing future breakouts. I used Neutrogena SkinClearing Liquid Make-up and SkinClearing Mineral Powder in Classic Ivory for a beautifully even finish. Since her hair was swept away from her face, I gave Emma an airy glow with a Neutrogena Mineral Sheers Blush in Illuminator.

Eyes:
Although Emma’s dress was light in color, it was adorned with shimmery sequins in brighter hues. To complement her fun and flirty look, I wanted to accentuate her eyes with spicy-warm brown shades since they are not as harsh as black. Using Neutrogena Nourishing Eye Duo in Crème Caramel for the eye shadow base, I applied Neutrogena Nourishing Eye Duo in Fairy Dusty in the creases of her eyes for a hint of drama. I framed her lash lines with Neutrogena Nourishing Eye Liner in Spiced Chocolate so her eyes would “pop” against her subtle lip color. I finished the look off with a few coats of Healthy Volume Black Brown Mascara.

Lips:

I then used mark Eyemarker Color On Line in Jet and carefully rimmed the top and bottom of her eyes, then used mark On The Edge Hook Up Liquid Eyeliner in Cleo to create a perfect line on the top lid strictly for definition. I finished up her eyes with two coats of mark Scanda-Lash Hook Up Mascara in Blacklash focusing on the corner of her lashes to really draw them out.”

Lips

Makeup artist Gita Bass created Tina Fey’s red carpet look for the 2009 Oscars. Gita shares her red carpet tips and techniques for creating Tina’s makeup look yourself.

Bold Lip: “A natural lip is a great compliment to a smoky eye. I chose Elizabeth Arden Color Intrigue Effects Lipstick in Pink Honey Pearl. It’s sheer enough to not compete with the eye but contains a hint of gold to add some warmth to the face.

…For added staying power, line the lips with a liner the same color as your lip, fill in the line and then layer the lipstick over the top. To create an even sexier pout, add a sheer layer of pink gloss – I used Elizabeth Arden High Shine Lip Gloss in Pink Pout.
