Michelle Williams looked spectacular on the red carpet at the annual Met Ball last night, held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Wearing a beautiful Miu Miu gown accented with metallic bronze and gold swallows, and Fred Leighton jewelry, all eyes were on her fabulous platinum hair.

Michelle Williams At The 2011 Met Gala hair styled with Moroccanoil hair care products

Celebrity stylist Peter Gray shares with us how he created the eye-catching style for Michelle’s short cropped hair:

“The dress was so beautiful with those bronzes and golds that I wanted to reflect that in her hair. I didn’t want it to look styled or even blow-dried, so I created the whole effect on freshly-shampooed, naturally-dried hair. My inspiration was a modern day Jean Seberg with a “Breathless” nuance, but with a soft, sexy and defined texture.”

“I started by trimming and squaring Michelle’s hair around the temple areas, leaving the overall outline of her haircut untouched. This made the style look a bit more unusual and further brought out the beautiful features of her face.”

“Next, I poured a bit of Moroccanoil Light, for fine and light-colored hair, into my palms then dabbed my fingers into it. I applied Moroccanoil Light on the root areas all over the head to separate the strands, to help the hair look more substantial, and give it a look of effortless volume. It gave the hair a gorgeous texture and prevented it from looking flat. It also gave the color depth and vibrance instead of appearing fine or smooth.”

“I lightly combed the back of thehead to create a nice flat shape. Then I ruffled the hair all over the headwith my fingers for movement. I pushed up the Moroccanoil Light into the roots at the back and then to the sides of the head, finally finger-shaping the entire style.”

“The finished look had a beautiful glow that complemented the design accents of Michelle’s dress, and worked perfectly with the soft bronze and gold tones of her make-up.”

“I love Moroccanoil Light. It’s one of my favorite products. You can really do so much with it on shoots, including blow-drying over it, and using it as a versatile styling or finishing product. It strengthens and conditions the hair and helps eliminates frizz so everyone’s happy after a long day under the lights.”

“I like that it now comes in smaller bottles, which are great for travel — when the scalp and hair takesuch a hammering. I give it to my clients to take with them when they vacation and tell them to apply it into their part and hairline areas after each day in the sun, as well as to their hair to help protect and bring back natural moisture.”

The product used to achieve Michelle Williams’ red carpet look:

Moroccanoil Light, a proprietary argan oil-infused formula, exclusively designed for light-colored and fine hair to give a natural-looking silky, lustrous shine and a frizz- and static-free finish. It strengthens, conditions and revitalizeshair while significantly reducing drying time. (MSRP: $41.80 / 100ml) (MSRP: $15.80 / 25ml)

Hilary Swank at the 17th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards Hair by Robert Vetica and Moroccanoil. “Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role” nominee and award presenter Hilary Swank wore her hair long, loose and sexy for the SAG Awards tonight. Wearing a soft, champagne-colored Versace gown, she looked red-carpet perfect.

Hilary Swank hair by Robert Vetica and Moroccanoil

The “Conviction” actress’ gorgeous hair was designed by leading Hollywood stylist, Robert Vetica, who was inspired by the sensual lines of her dress and the hairstyles of iconic 60’s Hollywood siren and Bond girl, Ursula Andress.

Vetica shared how he created the beautiful look:

“Istarted by blow-drying Hilary’s hair using Moroccanoil® Treatment to instantly condition, bring any dry ends back to life and make her hair easier to style. It also gave the hair a brilliant, natural-looking shine.

After the hair was dried, I did a full head set by curling 1” by 1” sections of hair, starting at the nape of the neck, then pinned to the head. These were real, full base curls, not spiral curls. I continued section by section until I reached the crown, then finished the sides and top of the head. When I finished, it had the look of a 60’s roller set, which could have been done using hot rollers.

I gave the set a good spray of Moroccanoil® Luminous Hairspray and let it sit for 20 minutes, to insure a good, healthy-looking set.

Tofinish, I removed the set and gave it a good brushing. Next, I took a smallamount of Moroccanoil® Hydrating Styling Cream to give the hair a touch of weight and ensure body.

I then gave the hair a good backcombing at the root and sprayed again. I brushed out most of the backcombing except at the crown, running my fingers through thehair to loosen it up. I then backcombed a bit more at the crown, gave it another spray and lightly brushed over the top.

Products used to achieve Hilary Swank’s look:

Moroccanoil® Treatment, a proprietary argan oil-infused formula, is exclusively designed to give hair a natural-looking silky, lustrous shine and a frizz- and static-free finish. It strengthens, conditions and revitalizes hair while significantlyreducing drying time. (MSRP: $41.80 / 100ml)

Moroccanoil® Luminous Hairspray is argan oil-infused for lasting, healthy and natural-looking hold with shine. (MSRP: $21.00 / 330ml)

Moroccanoil® Hydrating Styling Cream gives beautifully hydrating and natural-looking hold while eliminating frizz, and adding definition and shine. (MSRP: $31.80 / 300ml)

The originator and industry leader of luxury, professional argan oil-infused styling, finishing and conditioning products for the hair, the Moroccanoil®brand is world renowned for its proprietary lightweight, instantly absorbedformulas and unparalleled results.

Moroccanoil’s argan oil is harvested under a free trade program, which provides substantial socio-economic support to thousands of families in the Southwest region of Morocco.

2011 Golden Globes nominee for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Feature Film, Amy Adams, looked radiant as she wore a gorgeous strapless Marchesa gown with her fabulous red hair worn in a flowing, back-braided updo created by celebrity stylist Laini Reeves.

Laini Reeves explains how the look was styled:

“I wanted to create a soft 20’s mood, but in a different, modern way. We started by changing the texture of her hair before we went on to loosely braid and roll the chignon. Amy has a beautiful, full and thick head of hair and a nice, natural wave. We started by washing her hairwith Moroccanoil® Moisture Repair Shampoo which infuses the hairwith argan oil, keratins, fatty acids, and proteins. Combined with Moroccanoil® Moisture Repair Conditioner, it immediately controlled the hair and left itsmoother, frizz free and easy to manage and style.

Moroccanoil® Hydrating Styling Cream

I then applied Moroccanoil® Hydrating Styling Cream while it was drying, from root to end to give soft hold while further smoothing the texture and adding definition and shine. I rough-dried the hair with my hands to get the water out and created a bit of a messed up texture with a slight touch of wave for a more modern, freer look. The hair was air dried except at the roots, where I used a blow dryer.

Next, I used a 1” curling iron to make curls in different parts of the hair that needed to be filled in and then smoothed and blended them in. I made a side part and prepared some pieces from the front of the hair to frame her face, pinning them in an “S”-shape and away from the rest of the hair.

I gathered and pulled back the rest of hair, made a loose braid that I doubled up, rolled upwards and pinned at the nape, with the cross texture side of the braid showing. Only five thick bobby pins were used to secure the style in place.

Finally, I released the “S”-shaped sections in the front and pinned them behind the ear to open her face up and to show off her cheek bones. I then sprayed the look with Moroccanoil® Luminous Hairspray to keep everything in place with movable shine, without looking like it was sprayed.

Products used to achieve Amy Adams’ look:

Moroccanoil® Hydrating Styling Cream gives beautifully hydrating and natural-looking hold while eliminating frizz, and adding definition and shine. (MSRP: $31.80 / 10.2 fl. oz.)

Moroccanoil® Luminous Hairspray is argan oil-infused for lasting, healthy and natural-looking hold with shine. (MSRP $21.00 / 10 fl. oz.)

The originator and industry leader of luxury, professional argan oil-infused styling, finishing and conditioning products for the hair, the Moroccanoil® brand is world renowned for its proprietary lightweight, instantly absorbed formulas and unparalleled results.

2011 Golden Globe Award Presenter Scarlett Johansson looked extraordinary on the red carpet tonight. Wearing a sparkling blush-colored Elie Saab gown, her dazzling, sculpted updo was softly glamourous in a new, very modern way.

Influenced by glamour of 40’s Hollywood and the sophisticated photographs of 40’s and 50’s fashion photographer, Lillian Bassman, Vetica took red carpet hair to elegant new heights. Inspired by the flowing lightness of Scarlett Johansson’s gown, Vetica created an updo that blended softness, movement, direction and a new sculptural shape.

Attached on Scarlett Johansson’s hair two 1934 Flammes brooches worn as hair clips (round and baguette diamonds set in platinum) from the Van Cleef& Arpels Private Collection

“To create a feeling of movement and volume at the back of the head and height at the crown I started by blowdrying her hair with Moroccanoil® Treatment to smooth her texture and ensure shine and flexibility. I directed the hair back and away from her face and brought it back to the nape of her neck, and then up and towards the crown.

Next, I curled small sections of hair starting at the nape of the neck and up towards the crown using a 1Ž2 inch curling iron. Once I reached the crown, I curled the hair back from her face.

When I finished, Scarlett had a tight set of curls throughout her hair, all directed up and towards the crown. I then gave thecurls a good spray of Moroccanoil® Luminous Hairspray to set.

To finish, I vigorously brushed the hair through, again directing it up and away from the face, up from the neck towards the crown.

I then gave the whole look a well-defined backcomb to create a directional shape –- again bringing the hair up and away. Then, I gave the entire look a spray of Moroccanoil® Luminous Hairspray. It not only holds the hair, it leaves it with a soft, movable hold which was essential to make this look work.

I then attached two 1934 Flammes brooches worn as hair clips (round and baguette diamonds set in platinum) from the Van Cleef& Arpels Private Collection to round off the look by keeping the sides of her hair close to her head and to pick up the 40’s vibe of her dress.

Finally, I gently brushed through the top of the hair to smooth out the curls and gave it a wave. I finished by backcombing at the root of the crown for height.. I sprayed the hair with Moroccanoil® Luminous Hairspray again to set the look and finished with Moroccanoil® Glimmer Shine Spray for natural-looking shine.

Natalie Portman’s hair. Natalie Portman looked like a classic Hollywood star tonight at the New York Premiere of her new film “Black Swan.” Wearing a glamorous black Dior off the shoulder dress and gorgeous, full-bodied wavy hair, she dazzled the red carpet.

The look was designed by her stylist John D., who, though tempted to do an elegant updo, succumbed to the glamour of the dress and created a look that accented the its sense of drama and sensuous silhouette.

“The hair was beautiful, and helped balance the total look,” said John D.,

“especially since the bottom of the dress was so full. I started with argan oil-infused Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream then blow dried the hair smooth using a round brush to give it ‘oomph’ at the root. I used Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream for its soft hold and hydration. Natalie has naturally curly hair and it needs extra moisture to look its best. Since she’s constantly getting her hair done forevents.it can easily dry out. Hydrating Styling Cream helps protect her hair, adds moisture, and smoothes the cuticle. It also gets rid of any frizz and static.

“I then used a 1″ curling iron, and starting at the back of her head, I curled round sections all over her head to set the volume in, curling back from the face in the front. I finished her hair with Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray to give it extra hold that looked soft. It was raining in New York tonight and I wanted to make absolutely sure the body stayed. After her hair cooled, I used one of my tricks: I sprayed a paddle brush with hairspray and used it to separate and loosen the hair. This also tames the curls at the same time. I completed the lookwith a touch of hairspray to give it extra hold. With Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray, I find that I can brush through the hair several times and it gives no residue. It looks naturally shiny and still moves. Finally, I gave used a light mist of Moroccanoil Glimmer Shine Spray to finish.”

The Designs: Erin Fetherston’s Spring 2011 collection is a celebration of wanderlust. Inspired by the woman who seeks the exotic and unique, Fetherston channels the passion of the tropics and the romance of the desert in a modern eclectic mix for spring.

Traditional safari details inspire sharp feminine sportswear rendered in rich cotton twill and delicate eyelash lace. Pale cotton voiles, shimmering silk jacquards, and heathered linen combine to create chic day dresses and tailored separates. For evening, the Erin Fetherston woman emerges as a nocturnal bird of paradise in vibrantly hued variations on the designer’s cocktail signatures.

The Hair Look

“I wanted to create an exotic look that had the mood of a woman on a tropical holiday, ready to explore something new after a morning on the beach,” said hair stylist Odile Gilbert. “Her hair looks natural, healthy, straight and clean – but I’ve given it a bit of subtle drama, with texture only on the top of the hair and back from the face. The rest of the strands fall free. The texture was inspired by markings on tropical leaves. It’s relaxed yet sophisticated, perfect for a casual day or a dressed summer night.

How To Create Looks

Odile Gilbert

Odile first blow-dried hair straight using argan-oil infused Moroccanoil Treatment or Moroccanoil Light (for fine or light colored hair) to protect and prepare the hair for smoothing with a flat iron.

After creating a deep side part, Odile lightly moistened top of hair from forehead back to crown and applied Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream and separated hair a bit with fingers. She then sprayed Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray only several inches away from the hair and further separated strands with a comb for a striated tropical effect. She then blow-dried the shaped texture, and sprayed a final light misting of Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray from a distance to hold the look.

To finish Odile brushed the rest of the hair, from back of crown to the ends, letting it fall naturally, then tucked the hair behind the ears.

Moroccanoil products used to achieve the Erin Fetherston Spring 2011 collection’s runway hairstyles:

Moroccanoil Treatment, a proprietary argan oil-infused formula, is exclusively designed to give hair a natural-looking silky, lustrous shine and a frizz- and static-free finish. It strengthens, conditions and revitalizes hair while significantly reducing drying time. (100ml / $40.80)

Moroccanoil Light provides the same transformative benefits as the original Moroccanoil Treatment, but in a lighter consistency, specially formulated for fine and fair colored hair. (100ml / $40.80)

Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream This proprietary argan oil-infused formula gives beautifully hydrating and natural-looking hold while eliminating frizz, and adding definition and shine. (300ml / $31.80)

Moroccanoil® Luminous Hairspray is argan oil-infused for lasting, healthy and natural-looking hold with shine. (330ml / $21.00)

New York Fashion Week SS 2011. Designer: Badgley Mischka. Hair by Peter Gray for Moroccanoil.

“For spring 2011, we were inspired by the stylish film, ‘White Mischief’. We were fascinated by the idea of a woman with a very languid, proper veneer with a smoldering sensuality just beneath the surface.” -Mark Badgley and James Mischka

The Hair Look:

Peter Gray created beautiful, intricate waves of curls, with a playful touch of decadent 70’s frizz, as a perfect counterpoint to the slimmer, narrower silhouettes and the smooth, diaphanous fabrics of the clothes. “The curls are tight and combed through into a wave at the front, looser at the crown, with progressively smaller curls as they reach the back of the head,” said Gray. “They’re designed to tease the eye and keep it moving, almost in the same way as when the fabrics flow and fall as the models walk.

“We dressed many of the looks with eye-catching 70’s accents including colorful head scarves wrapped around the head and tied into asymmetrical buns, and soft summer hats. We also added custom-designed gold, silver and diamond jewelry as well as pure gold coins into the hair. The mood is all light and summery while still being very posh.”

How to:

Peter Gray used different sizes of curling irons to create varying types of curls, textures and volume.

He created smaller curls at the base of the look to push up and support volume on top layers of curls. He then used progressively larger curling irons for wavier curls as he reached the crown as well as the front sections around the face.

Gray started by taking small square sections of the hair at the nape of the neck (the same size as the diameter of the small curling iron he used.) This creates volume-enhancing tighter base curls.

He applied a small amount of Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream on each section, layered on a light spritz of Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray and wrapped sections around the curling iron.

As he made his way up the hair, Gray graduated to vertical hair sections the same size as the diameter of the larger curling iron he selected, taking bigger sections as he reached the crown.

Working primarily towards a side-part creating a wave in the fringe, he took small horizontal sections and worked back with the curling iron, starting at the hairline and completing at the crown. Curls were held in place by lightweight aluminum clips to ensure springiness.

After combing out the curls, he applied a light mist of Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray over the entire look to hold it in place, while keeping the hair soft, flexible, and natural-looking.

Moroccanoil products used to achieve the Badgley Mischka’s Spring 2011 collection’s runway hairstyles:

New York Fashion Week SS 2011. Designer: Carolina Herrera. Hairstyle by Orlando Pita for Moroccanoil.

For Spring 2011 colors, prints, and floral appliqués were taken from botanical plates collected in the 18th Century. The cut and details of this collection were inspired by traditional clothes from Korea. The hat, customarily worn by men, and the wrapped belts complete the silhouette.

The Hair Look:

Orlando Pita created unique, intricate looks with bold graphic details inspired by Korean design. “I love this hairstyle,” said Orlando. “When Korean women dress, nothing is out of place and everything is beautifully thought out. My hairstyle is precise and graphic, with no loose or separate pieces. Moroccanoil products give hair hold, smoothness and shine and everything is attached and held together only by custom-made Hair barrettes that match the exact color of the model’s hair. They’re strategically placed to make sure they completely hold every part of the look in place.”

How To to crate the hairstyle:

Orlando first applied argan oil-infused Moroccanoil Light throughout dry hair to create a healthy looking frizz-free shine, and smooth, healthy-look ends.

Next, he applied Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream mid way from the back of hair to the ends, then blow dried the hair smooth and straight with a round brush.

Once finished, Orlando created a deep side part, pulled hair back, and sprayed it with Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray. He then combed the hair again with a wide tooth comb, sprayed with Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray and pulled right side of hair diagonally over left, and pinned the hair above the nape of the neck with a creative cluster of custom made “Hair-Barrettes” that matched the color of model’s hair. These were pinned either horizontally or vertically to create dramatic graphic patterns. The finished looks were sprayed once again with Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray for added hold, and finished with a misting of Moroccanoil Glimmer Shine Spray.

Orlando created two variations of the style, an updo as well as a longer pony-tailed effect.

For the longer look, Orlando combed the hair into a ponytail, sprayed once again with Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray, and added additional horizontal hair-clips to accent the graphic effect. To create the dramatic chignon, Orlando took finished ponytails, looped them around, and pinned with diagonal, horizontal, and vertical hair-clips. He finished with Moroccanoil Glimmer Shine Spray.

Moroccanoil products used to achieve the Carolina Herrera’s Spring 2011 collection’s runway hairstyles:

Moroccanoil Light provides the same transformative benefits as the original Moroccanoil Treatment, but in a lighter consistency, specially formulated for fine and fair colored hair. (100ml / $40.80)

Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream This proprietary argan oil-infused formula gives beautifully hydrating and natural-looking hold while eliminating frizz, and adding definition and shine. (300ml / $31.80)

Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray is argan oil-infused for lasting, healthy and natural-looking hold with shine. (330ml / $21.00)
