MAKEUP INSPIRATION & LOOK: “Marc didn’t want the makeup look to be too couture, and with the hats by Steven Jones framing the face as they did, we needed to focus on one aspect,” said NARS Founder and Creative Director François Nars. “We created really fresh, radiant skin, no blush, and a heavily lined lower eye. The shape is round and a cloudy color, taking reference from 1920s Italian style icon and muse Marchesa Casati.”

Rebecca Taylor with lead stylist Dai Michishita for Cutler/Redken Salon. Friday, February 10th, 2012 / 2pm, Lincoln Center – The Stage.

Backstage at Rebecca Taylor with Cutler/Redken Salon

Inspiration: Rebecca Taylor’s gone downtown, offering this season a dark side: a nod to grunge with rich layers saturated in deep colors like charcoal, black, navy and bordeaux. For hair, Dai wanted to bring to life that edgy, downtown girl feel, a bit of dirty Parisian chic, and did so with heavy fringe bangs and tousled straight hair loosely clipped back.

Runway hairstyles New York Fashion Week Fall 2012

How to Step by Step:

Blow dry hair and create part on the left side.

Braid a corn roll down the hairline behind the right ear, sewing into it 3 layers of (natural hair) extensions.

Cut heavy fringe bangs, angling over the right side of the face.

Pull hair back low and split in half.

Twist both sections towards each other and lock in place with a clear elastic.

Spray Redken Fashion Work 12 to lock into place.

Muss up/tease the top layer to create texture.

Products Used:

Redken Fashion Work 12 Versatile Working Spray – $17.00 – www.redken.com

DESIGNER INSPIRATION: “We were inspired by a book from the 17th century called, The Secret Commonwealth: Of Elves, Fauns and Faires,” said designer Chris Peters. “The clothes all have an element of parallel existences – the real world versus the fairy world – manifesting itself in the combinations of fabrics and the idea of transformation and transition.”

MAKEUP LOOK: “The look is about ethereal, forest-wet skin,” said James Boehmer, NARS Director of Global Artistry. “You can’t use enough moisturizer – it’s dewy and really radiant. The eye should be defined in its shape but worn-in with its effect. As if you can see the eyelid through it, which we get from the gloss.”

Lancôme’s Artistic Director for Makeup Aaron De Mey wanted to create a “super bronzed” complexion with chocolate eyes and soft bronze lips. For the eyes, he applied dark brown eyeliner to the upper and lower lash line and into the crease and blended away any edges.

L’Wren Scott Spring 2012 makeup look by Lancôme, New York Fashion Week

Here’s how…

The liner was topped with two different brown shadows and once again blended to create a smoky look. Shimmer gold shadow was applied to the inner corner to really make the eyes pop. Aaron created “thick and chunky” lashes with several coats of jet-black mascara. Next, he dabbed gloss on the lids to make the eye makeup look worn, or “deconstructed.” A sweep of bronzer along the cheeks, nose, chin and halo of the face warmed up the complexion. Matte bronze lipstick was dabbed on the lips for a soft, feminine finish.

SKIN:

Teint Miracle Lit-from-Within Foundation

Star Bronzer in Solaire

EYES:

Color Design 5 Pan Palette in Golden Frenzy

Le Crayon Khôl in Black Coffee

Color Design Eyeshadow in Vintage and Mochaccino

Hypnôse Drama Mascara in Excessive Black

Juicy Tubes in Pure

DESIGNER INSPIRATION: “I was very much inspired by Spain – its culture, its heritage and the colors and style,” said designer Naeem Kahn. “The woman I’m designing for is glamorous – but vibrant. She’s sexy and confident.”

LOOK: “The starting point for the makeup was the Ava Gardner inspired eyebrow. With the bold, graphic eye, but not-so-bold lip, the makeup is reminiscent of Ursula Andress,” said James Boehmer, NARS Director of Global Artistry. “I wanted to create contrasts between the eye and lip. The skin is very cool – there’s no warmth to it, and the eyes are a wash of metallic silver.”

DESIGNER INSPIRATION: “An evolution of working with geometry and athlethism the Spring 2012 collection concentrates on the freedom and fragility of kites,” said designer Phillip Lim. “The geometry of kite tails captured between layers of chiffon echo the notions of frame work and structure.”

Frederic Fekkai Lead Stylist Didier Malige created a sexy, relaxed look for Rachel Zoe’s Spring-Summer 2012 Fashion Week Presentation.

Inspiration: Didier Malige created a hair style that is personalized for the look of each model and each outfit. The general look was inspired by the idea of wearing hair from the night before, creating a very fresh, messy and natural look.

How to get the look…

Start the night before, by washing the hair thoroughly with Fekkai Advanced Full Blown Volume Shampoo and Conditioner. The next day, start with clean dry hair and apply Fekkai Coiff Bouffant Lifting and Texturizing Spray Gel to the roots. Blow the hair dry, using only fingers, to allow for natural curls to form. Then, reshape the waves throughout the top and mid section of the hair, using curling irons of at least two different sizes. To wear the hair down, add a few small, loose braids underneath the top layer of hair, stopping at least two inches before the bottom of the hair. To create an up-do from the look, loosely weave the hair starting at the nape of the neck, stopping at least two inches before the bottom of the hair. Gently roll the hair and collect it against the back of the head, allowing a few face-framing tendrils to fall, using bobby pins to hold in place. To secure both styles of the look, spray Fekkai Coiff Sheer Hold Hair Spray throughout the hair.
