Last night, 2/10/201, TRESemmé Stylist Jeanie Syfu created the sleek and polished ponytails backstage at Charlotte Ronson’s Fall 2012 runway show.

Inspired by the 70s, the designer’s collection was refined and glamorous with edgy accents.

The perfectly coordinated pieces featured a mix of textures – leather, sheer fabric, knits and slashes of metallic. The colors were rich with emerald green, tomato red and purple. TRESemmé Stylist Jeanie Syfu took a different approach to the hair by slicking it back into a refined ponytail.

Sleek and polished ponytail secured at the nape of the neck. The refined pieces featured edgy accents and called for a slicked back, chic look to compliment the collection.

How-To Steps:

1. Start by prepping hair with TRESemmé Split Remedy Leave-In Conditioning Treatment. Apply throughout hair from roots to ends

2. Blow dry hair straight back from forehead, using a flat brush to gently push back

3. Pull out a few face-framing pieces from the hairline, just in front of the ears for a more windswept look

4. Apply a small amount of TRESemmé TRES Ultra Firm Control Gel with a color brush to the front hairline, leaving the wispy pieces out

5. Comb back all the hair flat and gather into a ponytail, securing with a band just above the nape of the neck

6. Flat iron the ponytail to reduce flyaways, if necessary

Cutler set the trend once again at the Donna Karan Resort show that took place on Friday, June 4th, 2010. The sexy, sleek ponytail was a glam accessory for the after-dark fashions that Donna Karan showcased on the runway. Didier Malige for Cutler, who created the look for the show, shares tips with us on how to recreate this sleek pony.

How to get a sleek pony:

1: Spray dry hair with Cutler Volumizing Spray, as well as Cutler Protectant Treatment Spray to add a base to the hair. Using a Mason Pearson brush and a blow dryer, manipulate the product into the hair for added texture and volume

2: Creating a side part on the right side of the head, take 1” from the front section and tuck it behind the ear. Flat iron hair section by section

3: Take the top section, starting from the side part to the top of the crown, and pin it away, making sure the clip doesn’t kink the hair

4: Gather a ponytail at the crown of the head, and secure with a bungee elastic. Lightly spritz with Redken Workforce 09 Flexible Volumizing Spray

5: Connect the top section with the ponytail so it goes clockwise around the bungee elastic, and secure with french pins

Adir Abergel for Frederic Fekkai tamed the tresses of Elizabeth Banks. The Hairstyle & Inspiration: American Rock & Roll. A rough, peicey ponytail with undone texture and a bit of height.

How To Get The Look: Hair Tutorial

Abergel started out by using Fekkai Coiff Ironless Straightening Balm ($25) for frizz free texture. He then dried her hair with his hands. Once hair was completely dry, he drew a part down the middle.

He then took a ¾ inch curling iron to create modern loose wave. He applied a bit of Fekkai Coiff Nonchalant Piecing & Forming Wax ($23) to the tips for added textured. He twisted the hair into a low pony tail and secured with hair pins. He finished the look with the Fekkai Advanced Brilliant Glossing Sheer Shine Mist ($23).

Hair Tutorial

1 . Prep wet hair from root to tip with Volumizing Mousse to enhance the natural shine and create volume. Using the Cushion Brush, blow dry hair section by section to distribute the product and create natural texture.

2. Gather the hair tight to form a ponytail at the back crown of the head and secure with a ponytail holder, keeping all sides flat. Holding hair at the end of the ponytail, twist the hair firmly in one direction to form a knot into a spiral. Secure with bobby pins.

3. On the sides, “muse” the little wispy hairs to play up the natural texture. Lightly spray with Hair Spray to complete the style and hold in place.

Accessorize with a Part

1. To create the perfect canvas for a defined part, start with clean, smooth hair by applying Dry Ends Serum (Marta’s all time favorite) to the ends f your hair and Super straight Smoothing Balm from root to tip.

2. Using the Large Barrel Brush, blow fry hair straight. Use a comb to create a defined part on the side of the head.

3. Pull all hair into a tight, sleek bun at the back of the neck to make the part really stand out. Spray a light mist of Mirror Shine Spray to create a highly sheen finish.

Wavy Volume

1. Begin this look by smoothing Volumizing Mousse through damp hair root to tip.

2. Create soft curls by setting hair with Pillow Curlers. Spray a light mist of Hair Spray to ensure hair will hold curl.

3. Remove the curlers. Flip hair over front of head and a layer of Hair Spray to create extra volume and hold. Run fingers through hair to loosen curls for a soft finish.

Sleek and Sophisticated

1. Prep damp hair with Moisture Sleek Smoothing Serum. Dry hair using the Vent Brush to enhance shine and create a smooth finish.

2. Apply a small amount of Shaping Gel to dry hair from root to mid-shaft. Pull all hair to the back of the head, securing with an elastic band.

3. Take a small bunch of hair and twist around the base of the pony, securing with bobby pins. Finish the look with a light mist of Hair Spray to keep all strands in place.

Crown of Volume

1. Smooth an Anti-Frizz Capsule on damp hair to create the perfect foundation for building frizz-free texture. Layer Volumizing Mousse on hair to give your tresses the extra boost they need.

2. Blow dry hair in small sections with a Round Brush. Wrap hair tightly around the barrel and aim hot air directly on the hair until dry.

3. Once all hair is dry, backcomb the top section and pull back to the center of the head, securing in place with bobby pins. Take the remaining hair and secure in a loose, messy bun at the nape of the neck. Finish the look with a light mist of Hair Spray.

Last Thursday, March 25th, 2010, Rodney Cutler and his team of amazing stylists created the “undone pony” for the Ann Taylor Fall 2010 presentation at the Ace Hotel, with celebrity guests Rachel Bilson and Christina Hendricks in attendance. Rodney and his team just worked on over 30 shows during Fashion Week for Fall 2010.

2. Part hair in the middle, and gently tease the crown. Separate the front and crown sections of hair from the rest. Using an elastic, pull the remaining hair into a medium height ponytail, and secure.

3. Take the left front section, and gently pull back and twist around the base of the pony. Take the same section from the opposite side, and follow the same step. Tuck ends underneath the pony, and secure with bobby pins.

4. Curl the ends of the ponytail under with a 1 1/4” barrel curling iron. To add shine, distribute TRESemmé No-Frizz Shine Spray all over holding it an arms length away from the head.

Matrix celeb stylist Mark Townsend styled Natalie Portman for the Gotham Awards on Monday night and she looked amazing!!

To get Natalie Portman’s asymmetrical side bun for the 19th annual Gotham Independent Film Awards, Matrix celebrity stylist Mark Townsend sprayed Biolage Bodifying Spray Gel in Natalie’s damp hair and blow dried it with a medium round brush. Next, he took 2 to 3 inch sections of hair and sprayed each with Vavoom Gold Heat Iron-In Control, wrapping the hair around a 1 inch curling iron.

“It was a rainy evening so I used the Vavoom Iron-In Control to keep Natalie’s hair from getting frizzy in the humidity. And, to give her hair some extra texture, I took a small amount of Vavoom Design Pulse Glow to Pieces Shine Wax in my hands and then raked it through her hair.” Next, Mark gathered Natalie’s hair into a ponytail behind her left ear and then braided the ponytail and secured it with an elastic at about 2 inches from the ends. Once the braid was secured, heI looped the ponytail around the base and secured it with a few bobby pins. To a glamorous finishing touch, Mark put a bobby pin from Jennifer Behr at the top of the bun.
