POP Beauty Takes a Bite into the Big Screen!

With the inspirational Audrey Hepburn in mind, POP Beauty Makeup Artist Victoria Rowe created a delicate twist to Ashley Green’s mysterious character. Armed with POP Beauty products, a vintage dress and a gorgeous day, they created magic through the photographer’s lens, and channelled the legend.

Meet Sara Strand the founder of Pop Beauty makeup line. In this interview Sara Strand talks to Marta Walsh about what drove her to create Pop Beauty, Eyecakes- the first product she conceptualized and developed as part of Pop Beauty, how Pop Beauty is perfect for anybody who is ready to experiment and move a little bit out of their comfort zone, her talent for singing, and her very exciting move to sunny California.

How was the idea for Pop Beauty makeup line born?
As a makeup artist and a woman – pop where the pieces that were missing in my makeup bag. Pop represents everything that I love about life, zest, energy, playfulness, and originality. Also there really was a gap in the market for fun colorful makeup of great quality! I also wanted fabulous products that would really stand out on stage. 

How does the name Pop Beauty reflect its makeup collections?
The name says it all! A pop of color, to make your eyes pop. Pop culture, pop art. Just like the collections the name sums up what I love about makeup with an added edge and a touch of femininity!

What was the first makeup product you have conceptualized and created for Pop Beauty?
The eyecakes was the first product formulated for the first collection. The shades harmonize and are put together specifically to make green, blue and brown eyes pop. It’s a makeup artist’s advice in a cute retro tin! And the colors look amazing on!

What kind of woman wears Pop Beauty makeup?
It’s hard to narrow it down pop is youthful but that is all a mindset. My older sisters and my mum wears pop as well as younger ladies. It’s for anybody who is ready to experiment and move a little bit out of their comfort zone and as women I think we are always looking for the latest craze when it comes to beauty!

Where do you find the muse for your makeup collections?
It could be anything from art, nature, music to my sisters and friends and just random cool looking people on the streets of the places I visit. Music and art are definitely big influences.

What are some of your favorite Pop Beauty makeup products?
Now that’s impossible to answer! I love all of them! Pop makeup is designed to be a girls makeup accessory, you switch you look to suit your mood! Currently in my private makeup bag you will find: inliner in black,liplust in red, glowbelle (I never leave the house without it) eye magnet primer, lid neon, lash kapow, little black dress and lots of factory samples of things I am currently working on.

What was the best part of creating your own makeup line?
My makeup always looks fab and every day is an adventure!

What is the makeup look this year at Pop Beauty?
Smokey eyes with a touch of pop, primal colors for eyes, framed eyes and big lashes and glowing, nude skin.

What is your number one beauty secret?
Don’t worry be happy! Water, Brazil nuts, vitamin e oil, enough sleep (yeah right J ) a good skincare routine and a great lover.

How would you describe your own style?
Eclectic, kooky, energetic, experimental, individual

What one or two things some people may not know about you?
I’m quite a good singer and can drink anyone under the table

What’s next for Sara Strand?
I will be re-locating to California (can’t wait) in the next few weeks and I am working on a new exiting collection for pop as well as having some of my music mixed. I’m excited about the future.

 POP Beauty Paints LA Fashion Week at the Maggie Barry Spring/Summer 2009 Fashion Show!

“The inspiration came from Maggie’s request for a “Circus Theme” and to make the girls look like “Beautiful Dolls, but individual”, so I searched for “Dolls and Doll looks” everywhere. What I came up with was to give each girl a different kind of Doll-we had a “Marilyn Monroe” doll, a “Grace Jones” doll, a “Bratz doll” doll, a Pam Andersen as “Barb Wire” doll, several “Asian China Dolls”…says Victoria Rowe, a Pop Beauty makeup artist. 

How to get the Maggie Barry makeup look with Pop Beauty?

The following Pop Beauty products were used to create the unique looks:

Blush Cake in Pretty In Pink Blush to make that very Baby Pink, doll-like cheek blended out with iridescent white and Glow Belle Face Kit over them to make the cheeks really glow!

Day To Play Eye shadow kits, as well as Lid Neon, and Eye Cakes in Pastel Greens, Pinks, and Blues, for the lid only, with iridescent white from Glow Belle under the brow. A thick black line on the top lid only with the In-Liner in Black.

Many girls had individual designs of stars, hearts, and peace symbols drawn in black eyeliner and decorated with glitter and crystals on their cheeks as well!

Pink Ribbon Gloss and Heart-Shaped lip stains finished the baby-doll looks.

I met my dear friend Victoria Rowe, who also happens to be a very talented makeup artist, backstage at the Maggie Barry show during LA Fashion Week.

I met up with celebrity makeup artist Victoria Rowe backstage at the Maggie Barry fashion show during LA Fashion Week. Victoria gave me a sneak peek to the makeup look for the runway which was achieved by Pop Beauty!
