MAKEUP INSPIRATION

This “Sophisticated 80s” look was created for the Fall 2012 Marc by Marc Jacobs collection, which was full of iconic 80s references, jewel tones and an edginess steeped in traditional silhouettes. Shiseido Artistic Director, Dick Page, created a graphic lip for the runway, which was “borderline cartoony and felt like wax crayon.” In the spirit of childhood experimentation, Dick played with products that are intended for the lid and cheek but created a beautiful effect for the brow and eyes. The result? A look that was both modern and “two dimensional.”

How to get a sophisticated 80s makeup look

FACE

The Marc by Marc Jacobs face was pure matte perfection, featuring velvety skin that emulated “a flat, poster paint effect,” and allowed the natural rosiness of the cheeks to peek through ever so slightly.

Dick started with a clean, well-moisturized base and applied a wash of Dual Balancing Foundation to remove any redness or imperfections. No color was added to the cheeks.

EYES

The eyes were treated to a shimmery, highlighted “halo,” offset with full, weighty, natural brows by using products for “all the wrong reasons.”

To add weight to the brow, Dick created a custom blend of cream shadows to complement the natural brow shade. He used Shimmering Cream Eye Color in Sable (BR709), Meadow (BE204) and Caviar (BK912) for brunettes and Leather (BR306) for redheads. These cream shadows allowed Dick to easily “customize color for each model.” (Tip: add a bit of clear brow gel to the cream color if it gets a little clumpy.)

Using a fluff brush, Dick blended Luminizing Satin Face Color in Soft Beam Gold (BE206) and High Beam White (WT905), and applied around the entire eye area to create a halo effect.

He then added Perfect Mascara Full Definition in Black (BK901) to just the upper lashes, curling them only if they had no natural curve to them already.

LIPS

Red was on everyone’s lips for the look, as Dick whipped up a custom crimson shade for each girl. “This is what lipstick is like before they finish making it,” he said. “Waxy and condensed.”

Using a Small Eye Shadow Brush, Dick applied the custom matte red shade to the lip area. To create a similar look, try Perfect Rouge in Cerise (RD516) and Valentine (RD415). Dick focused on a precise, defined application for a perfect pop of color. (Tip: “Resist the urge to overdraw.” If you have thinner lips, accentuate them ever so slightly.)

Shiseido Backstage At Spring 2012 Narciso Rodriguez

INSPIRATION/THEME: The makeup look was inspired by the Spring 2012 Narciso Rodriguez collection. Dick Page described the makeup as “intensely monochromatic.”

FACE

Dick applied a wash of foundation to create a natural, “nothing-y” base.

No concealer or cheek color was used.

EYES

Using a soft brown-hued prototype cream base that is being formulated for a future Shiseido Makeup Shimmering Cream Eye Color, Dick took a fluff brush and blended the cream onto the upper and lower areas of the eyes—making sure the color was diffused. *Please note that there was no shimmering or pearlescent effect in this prototype cream. It is a matte base that will later be formulated with shimmer. Launch date is to be determined.

No mascara or eyeliner was used.

A custom brow was created for each model by mixing together the Shiseido Makeup Shimmering Cream Eye Color in Sable (BR709), Caviar (BK912) and Leather (BR306) and applying the combination with a clean brush to finish the eye look.

LIPS:

Dick blended the same prototype cream base color he used on the eyes with the Shiseido Makeup Shimmering Rouge Lipstick in Discretion (RD713) to create the lip look. He diffused both shades with his finger to create a well-blended, soft shimmering effect. Dick described the lips as a “shimmer version of the eye.”

INSPIRATION…

The makeup look was inspired by the Spring 2012 Marc by Marc Jacobs collection.

FACE

Description:

Dick applied a wash of foundation to remove any redness and even out the skin tone.

Shiseido Makeup Translucent Loose Powder was applied over foundation to ensure a shine-free, matte finish.

For cheeks, Dick blended the Shiseido Makeup Luminizing Satin Face Color in High Beam White (WT905) with the Luminizing Satin Face Color in Soft Beam Gold (BE206). He lightly dusted the highlighters under the eyes to create a “soft halo” effect.

Next, Dick mixed the Shiseido Makeup Luminizing Satin Face Color in Petal (RD103) with the Luminizing Satin Face Color in Soft Beam Gold (BE206) and applied the blush only to the apple of the cheeks, blending and diffusing the shades.

EYES

Description:

Dick applied a coat of Shiseido Perfect Mascara Full Definition Mascara in Black (BK901) on the upper lashes and thenused a comb to create separation and definition. For the bottom lashes, he applied only a very light coat.

Dick used the Shiseido Benefiance Full Correction Lip Treatment on the eyelids to create a glossy effect.

Acustom brow was created for each model by mixing together the Shiseido Makeup Shimmering Cream Eye Color in Sable (BR709), Patina (GR707) and Leather (BR306) and applying the combination with a clean mascara comb to finish the eye look.

LIPS

Description:

Dick used the Shiseido Makeup Perfect Rouge Lipstick in Roseate (RD734) on the lips, blotting with his finger to diffuse the color and create a soft look on the lips.

NSPIRATION/THEME/UNIQUE TIP:

The inspiration for the makeup look was the Fall 2011 Michael Kors Collection, which celebrated the 30th anniversary of the designer. The overall makeup look featured easy, pretty makeup that emphasized a strong, well-defined brow.

FACE

Description:

“Clean and natural”

Shiseido Perfect Refining Foundation was used to cover any redness and blemishes as needed to even out the models’ complexions

Dick then applied Shiseido Translucent Loose Powder from the mid-cheek to lower jawline only

To have the eye area remain luminous, Dick applied a range of the Shiseido Bronzer from the hollow of the cheek area and diffused toward the jawline (the bronzer shade was dependent on the model’s skin tone)

No concealer was used under the eyes, especially directly under lower lash line

EYES

Description:

“Simple with an emphasis on strong, well-defined brows”

Dick applied Shiseido Shimmering Cream Eye Color in Sable (BR709) along the upper and lower lash line and blended well to diffuse the color

A trace of Shiseido Accentuating Cream Eyeliner in Brown (#2) was applied by Dick along the upper lash line to give the eye a bit of weight. The liner was blended well into the Shiseido Shimmering Cream Eye Color in Sable (BR709)

Using a fluff brush, Dick blended color into the eye area to create a halo of color around the eye

A Shiseido Eyelash Curler was used to slightly curl eyelashes

Dick applied Shiseido Perfect Mascara Defining Volume in Black (BK901) to upper lashes only

Since there was an emphasis on a strong eyebrow, Dick used Shiseido Natural Eyebrow Pencil to fill in models’ brows, following their natural shape to give weight to the brow. For models with lighter hair, Dick filled in the brows with the darkest shade in the Shiseido Luminizing Satin Eye Color Trio in Voyage (BR209)

For models with medium hair color, Dick applied the darkest shade from Shiseido Luminizing Satin Eye Color in Strata (BR307) to eyebrows to add definition to the brows

The black shade from Shiseido Luminizing Satin Eye Color in Fire (OR302) was used to fill in brows for models with dark hair

LIPS

Description:

“Muted, soft lip”

Dick applied a light wash of Shiseido Perfect Rouge in Dune (BE310) to the lip

He then blotted lips with a base sponge containing a bit of Shiseido Perfect Refining Foundation to mute the color

Tuesday, February 15th, 2011. Narciso Rodriguez Fall 2011 NYC Fashion Week. Makeup by Dick Page, Shiseido Artistic Director using Shiseido Makeup collection.

INSPIRATION/THEME/UNIQUE TIP:

The inspiration for the makeup look was the Fall 2011 Narciso Rodriguez Collection. The overall look focused on a more “scruffy” eye, leaving the lips muted. It was all about the “cool girl” look for the makeup.

FACE

Description:

“Natural, Moisturized, and Clean“

Shiseido Perfect Refining Foundation was applied where needed to cover any redness in the skin or blemishes

No concealer or blush were used

EYES

Description:

“Scruffy and Easy Urban Dirty”

Using a small fluff brush, Dick applied Shiseido Shimmering Cream Eye Color in Purple Dawn (VI395) along upper and bottom lash-line, blending well to diffuse color

Dick then applied Shiseido Shimmering Cream Eye Color in Caviar (BK912) over the top and bottom lash line and blended well, fusing the two colors together

Using a small brush, Dick blended out the edges of both the top of the eye and lower part of the eye using a small amount of the Benefiance Full Correction Lip Treatment; this effect created a glossy wet-look

No mascara was used

LIPS

Description:

“Soft and Muted”

Using the fingers, Dick dabbed Shiseido Shimmering Rouge Lipstick in Alabaster (BE702) onto the lips

The color is then blended out with Shiseido Natural Finish Cream Concealer or Shiseido Perfect Refining Foundation, according to skin tone

For the 4th consecutive year, Shiseido Cosmetics America is partnering with Cosmetic Executive Women to support their philanthropic arm Cancer and Careers (CEW) during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Cancer and Careers is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting working women living with cancer.

As part of the partnership, Shiseido will donate $5 to Cancer and Careers for every unit of Shiseido Makeup Luminizing Lip Gloss in Pop Life (PK406) sold throughout the month of October.

Also, in honor of the partnership, all Shiseido makeup counters will feature an exclusive look created by Dick Page, Artistic Director for Shiseido Makeup. The “In the Pink” look illustrated in the face chart features the Luminizing Lip Gloss in Pop Life and pairs the bold-pink lip with a soft-pink eye shadow. By visiting a Shiseido counter, consumers can learn how to create the special “In the Pink” look.

How to get the look with Shiseido Makeup collection: Dick applied a thick coat of Translucent Loose Powder all over the face with a large powder brush and then dusted off the excess powder leaving the skin matte. To give the skin under the eyes a pearly finish, Dick mixed together the NEW! Luminizing Satin Face Color in Soft Beam Gold (BE206) and NEW! Luminizing Satin Face Color in High Beam White (WT905) and applied the color under the eyes in a triangle shape. To add a touch of bronze, Dick swept the NEW! Luminizing Satin Face Color in Shell (GD809) under the cheekbones, giving the illusion of contour.

EYES

To create a base, Dick first washed color across the eyelid by applying the Accentuating Color Stick in Champagne Flush (S6) and Accentuating Color Stick in Rosy Flush (S5) to the natural crease of the eye with a fluff brush. Next, Dick lined the eyes with Accentuating Cream Eyeliner in Black (1), right into both top and bottom lash lines.

To achieve a dramatic look, he brushed the NEW! Luminizing Satin Eye Color in Ocean Sunset (GD824) along the inner corners of the eye in a “V” shape then applied the NEW! Luminizing Satin Eye Color in Fondant (GR222) to the base of the eyelid. Afterward, Dick swept the NEW! Limited Edition Luminizing Satin Eye Color in Amethyst (VI399) across the eyelid, starting just above the Ocean Sunset color, continuing around the Fondant color, and then filled in the outside of the lid. The NEW! Luminizing Satin Face Color in Medusa (PK107) was brushed on the brow bone from the outer edge of the brow to the inner corner of the eye. Perfect Mascara in Black (BK901) was applied to both top and bottom lashes. After Dick completed the look of the face, he finished the eyes by using a damp brush to apply the Amethyst eye color below the liner on the bottom of the eye, reinforcing the lash line.

LIPS

Dick used a lip brush to apply the NEW! Perfect Rouge Tender Sheer Lipstick in Pout (RS326) lightly. He then layered the NEW! Luminizing Satin Face Color in Medusa (PK107) over the color to set the lipstick and give the color a pearl finish. He finished by applying the NEW! Luminizing Satin Face Color in White Beam (WT905) to the center of the lower lip.

EYES
Description: “Distinct luxurious, but not too heavy.”

Dick blended together the Accentuating Color Sticks in Bronze Flush (S1) and Glistening Flush (S3) to create a warm, bronzy shade; he then applied the color all over the eyelids.

Dick then brushed the Luminizing Satin Face Color in High Beam Gold (BE206) over the eyelids to create a “halo” of color.

Next, Dick used a fluff brush to apply the dark-bronze shade from the Shiseido Makeup Luminizing Satin Eye Color Trio in Opera (GD804) along the upper lash line and up through the crease, following the natural eye shape. A large fluff brush was then used to diffuse the color.

To line the eyes, Dick took the charcoal shade from Luminizing Satin Eye Color Trio in Fire (OR302)* and slightly dampened the edge of the shadow for intensity. Using a small liner brush, Dick used the damp charcoal color to line two-thirds of the upper lash line and the full bottom lash line.

Then, Dick used the dark-bronze shade from the Shiseido Makeup Luminizing Satin Eye Color Trio in Opera (GD804)* to blend over the lash lines to soften and diffuse the color.

For the upper lashes, Dick gently curled the lashes with the Shiseido Makeup Eyelash Curler and then applied a coat of the Shiseido Makeup Perfect Mascara Defining Volume in Black (BK901) .

The Shiseido Makeup Luminizing Satin Eye Color Trio and the Shiseido Makeup Perfect Mascara Defining Volume will be available September 2010.

FACE
Description: “Warm with a flush of bright color”

Dick applied a wash of Shiseido Makeup Dual Balancing Foundation over the face and along the jaw line.

Dick then applied a mix of Shiseido Makeup Luminizing Satin Face Colors in High Beam White (WT905) and Soft Beam Gold (BE206) along the cheekbones and slightly under the eye area to create a highlight.

Next, Dick applied a combination of Shiseido Makeup Luminizing Satin Face Colors on the apples of the cheeks, depending on each model’s skin tone. Shades used: Tea Rose (RS302), Orchid (RD401), Petal (RD103), Carnation (PK304) and Shell (GD809).

LIPS
Description: Dick applied Shiseido Makeup Perfect Rouge Lipstick in Caramel (BR333) with a soft fluff brush and then diffused the color. The Shiseido Makeup Perfect Rouge Lipstick will be available September 2010.

EYES
Dick swirled a mix of Shiseido Makeup Luminizing Satin Face Colors in High Beam White (WT905) and Soft Beam Gold (BE206) on the eyes. 

BROWS:
“The most important detail of the look.”
Dick mixed Shiseido Makeup Accentuating Cream Eyeliner in Black (BK901) with a prototype of a white cream color from the Shiseido labs to create a dark-grey shade.
Next, Dick sketched the dark-grey cream into the eyebrows with a sharp edged makeup brush.
To finish, Dick used a mascara wand to groom the brows.

 FACE
“Clean, beautiful skin”
Dick applied Shiseido Makeup Dual Balancing Foundation where needed to neutralize red areas and spots.
Next, Shiseido Makeup Translucent Loose Powder was applied to the entire face to create a matte finish.
Finally, Dick mixed the Shiseido Makeup Luminizing Satin Face Colors in High Beam White (WT905) and Soft Beam Gold (BE206) and blended the colors onto the cheekbone and under the eyes.

LIPS
Description: Dick applied Shiseido Makeup Perfect Rouge Glowing Matte Lipstick in Whisper (RD722) to the entire lip with his finger.
