The ever beautiful and recently slimmed down Jennifer Hudson recently got together with Sam Fine, celebrity makeup artist and creator of The Basics of Beauty, for a shoot showing off her gorgeous new look. Here, Sam shares with us his insider advice on how you can achieve this flawless and glowing face at home with just a few easy steps.

L To R: Jennifer Hudson and Sam Fine

Makeup Tutorial

Coverage: Every great look begins great coverage. Jennifer has beautiful skin, but like many women of color, she has varied tones. I use foundation to unify those varying tones. One of my favorites is the Queen Collection Natural Hue Compact Foundation because it’s cream- to- powder, so it dries down to a powdery finish and looks really natural.

Bronzer: Bronzer is always a must for all women to illuminate their complexion. It’s important to choose a bronzer that’s one shade darker than your natural skin tone and apply it to the outer perimeter of your face to warm the skin and create a halo of glow. After applying bronzer, you can go back and layer over blush to give the skin a pop of color. On Jennifer, I used CoverGirl Natural Hue Mineral Bronzer and Cargo’s matte blush in Laguna.

Eyes: To create Jennifer’s classic, natural eye, I used a brown shadow. Shu Uemura makes a great pressed eye shadow in an array of shades – in this case, their Matte Taupe with Golden Flakes Eyeshadow works perfectly. For this look, I didn’t use a ton of liner, and totally avoided lining underneath her eyes to keep them soft. We used tons of mascara to enhance her look – my favorite is LashBlast from CoverGirl. I always like to apply a coat of mascara, and then move on to something else to let the first coat dry. I’ll come back a few minutes later, curl the lashes, and then layer on a few more coats of mascara to really build the lashes. This makes them much more dramatic and makes the curl hold well. It’s like spraying your hair with a coat of hairspray before using a curling iron.

Lips: To complete her look, I gave Jennifer a beautiful nude lip. The key to a nude lip is to begin by lining the lips with liner that is one shade darker than your natural lip color. Don’t worry about matching the liner to your lipstick – if you match it to your lips, it will look great with any shade of lipstick. After lining the lips, feather the liner towards the center of the mouth to great a base for the lipstick. Next, apply your lipstick. On Jennifer, I chose IMAN Cosmetics’ Luxury Moisturizing Lipstick in Citron. I finished by slicking on a golden gloss add dimension and shine. CoverGIRL’s Shine Blast Lip Gloss is perfect!

Kim Kardashian attended the 2010 Cosmetic Executive Women Beauty Awards at New York’s Waldorf-Astoria hotel, May 21st, 2010. Kim wore a beautiful one shoulder coral dress and her hair was pulled up off her shoulders. Her makeup artist Mario Dedivanovic created an absolutely gorgeous, soft and feminine look fit for the occasion, and now he is sharing his secrets on how to recreate this beautiful, refreshing look.

How to makeup tutorial:

FACE

On her skin I applied Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation blended with a bit of moisturizer, and used LaMer concealer under her eyes. I then set her face with Shu Uemura loose powder.

For a subtle glow, I sweep EYE M GLAM highlighter by Giella Cosmetics onto the cheekbones, bridge of nose and cupids bow, and applied Hot Mama blush by The Balm.

EYES

For her eyes I swept EYE M GLAM highlighter on her lids and on the inner corners of eyes to brighten and open up the eyes, and used a touch right on the brow bone too. I also filled her brows with MAC Brow Pencil in Linering, and lined the top lids with Lancome’s Art Liner extending it out and up past the eye.

I then applied Sephora Collection Flashy Liner in Flashy Brown on the inner rim of her eyes and smudged a bit along the lash line too, and finished the look by curling her lashes and applying two coats of Smashbox Hyperlash Mascara in black to both top and bottom lashes.

LIPS

Finally for her lips, I applied JK Jemma Kidd Sheer Vanity Gloss and Glaze in Belle de Jour.

Maggie Gyllenhaal’s 2010 Oscars makeup look by COVERGIRL celebrity makeup artist Molly R. Stern.

“The finished product was perfection. She looked like herself. Authentic, cool and beautiful. Being a part of Oscar day with a nominee is such an honor. It’s like an actress’ wedding day with Hollywood. I love being here. I feel so blessed.”-Molly R. Stern

How to get Maggie Gyllenhaal’s Oscars 2010 makeup look by Molly R. Stern: Maggie is the muse of spring. Her Dries Van Noten gown is a swirl of bright colors that fades into white. For her makeup I wanted to bring out the color of her eyes with some depth while keeping with the brightness of her overall style.

We started off the look by refreshing the skin with Jurlique Rose Water spray. Then I prepped the skin with Shu Uemura red:juvenus vitalizing concentrate and lightly moisturized with La Mer moisturizing lotion.

For a flawless complexion I primed Maggie’s skin with COVERGIRL & Olay Simply Ageless Serum Primer (out in July 2010!!).

Then I lightly applied some Chantecaille future skin foundation in the color ‘cream’ only where she needed it. Then lastly I dusted La Mer powder foundation in ‘Ivory’ to set the skin for the big night.

For her amber peachy cheeks I used COVERGIRL & Olay Simply Ageless Sculpting Blush in Rich Cinnamon. And dusted some NARS ‘dolce vita’ blush on the apples.

For Maggie’s eyes of layered copper smoke I based her eye with COVERGIRL Smoky ShadowBlast in Bronze Fire. Next I deepened her lid with NARS soft touch shadow pencil ‘skorpios’. Then I blended into the crease Shu Uemura pressed eye shadow ‘p brown 810′ and lastly I lightly dusted Shu Uemura pressed eyeshadow in ‘n me brown 860′ all over the lid for a golden finish. For the undereye, I resmudged the COVERGIRL Smoky ShadowBlast under her lash line to bring out the blue of Maggie’s eyes. Finally I defined her lashes by combining brown and black mascara. I painted the lashes with both colors using COVERGIRL LashBlast Length for perfectly flirty long lashes.

On Maggies lips I applied NARS ‘schiap’ lip color –it was the perfect shade to finish off the look. Its bright hue matches Maggie’s vibrant sense of style and confidence.

Lancôme abassador Kate Winslet looked resplendent at the Academy Awards yesterday, clad in an Yves Saint Laurent gown and bold jewelry from Tiffany & Co. Kate’s long-time makeup artist, Jillian Dempsey, topped off the look with soft, ethereal makeup. Both the eyes and the lips got equal attention on this Oscar winner. Shimmering, champagne-pewter shades highlighted the eyes, while very saturated mascara delivered that extra definition. A pop of pink blush on her cheeks gave Kate just a hint of a natural flush. Jillian topped off the look with nude-pink lips.

Emily Blunt looked gorgeous with her 1920’s inspired look at the Wolfman Premiere in LA. Create her look from home with these DIY tips from her stylist, Laini Reeves!

Laini Reeves, Owner and Creative Director of Essensuals London (www.essensualslondon.com), took inspiration from Emily’s vintage style to create a new take on the 1920′s up-do.

Hair Tutorial:

To set the mood, Laini made a custom flapper style accessory – a peacock feather fashioned to an elastic headband. Laini took the hair and twisted it up, over and into the band, keeping in tight to the head. The messy texture of the hair helped to modernize the look.

Step 1: Start with hair that is smooth and glossy. Laini has been using Shu Uemura Essence Absolue while on tour with Emily, a light blow dry lotion that helps to smooth hair and give great gloss. Apply this prior to blow drying.

Step 2: Gently scrunch dry hair to encourage a natural wave and boost texture

Step 3: Secure the headband and twist hair up and over around band, to back of head with messy bun at nape of neck

Step 4: Loosen a few strands to create a more modern, soft, tousled look

Step 5: Finish with a light holding spray

New York Fashion Week Fall Winter 2010: Seattle native and downtown New York denizen Chris Benz saw all of his influences collide in a spectacular way on Monday, Febuary 15, 2010, for his Fall 2010 presentation. The collection mixes the patterns, textures and utility of clothes made for the Great Outdoors as worn by the renegade, Outward Bound Debutante.

Makeup Tutorial: Lead makeup artist Daniel Martin (who helped create the Chris & Tell shade with the designer for Spring 2010) wanted a “makeup” makeup look, so he and Chris settled on what they’re calling Gothic Chic. The eyes and the lips were given equal attention. The eyes were smoky in gradations of shimmery charcoal and chocolate. Daniel used the new Ombre Magnétique, a mousse-like cream shadow, in black, layered with Color Design Eye Shadow in Guest List, an opaque espresso shade. For the lashes, several coats of Hypnôse Drama Mascara in Excessive Black, and for the eyeliner, Le Stylo Waterproof EyeLiner in Noir along the waterline, completed the look.

The lips were just as prominent. In a surprise twist, Daniel used Le Crayon Poudre brow pencil in Sable as lip liner, to get a specific gradated gothy lip look inspired by a photograph of Kate Moss from the 90’s. Over it, Daniel debuted the new Color Design matte lipstick in Bronze Show. (Available in mid-March 2010, exclusively at Macy’s.) He topped it all with Juicy Tubes in Hallucination just on the center of the bottom lip for dimension.

For the complexion, Photôgenic Lumessence foundation enhanced the entire face (even the models’ ears!), Shu Uemura’s Sheer loose powder delivered a high-def finish that withstood the bright lights of the studio where the presentation was held. Finally, the cheeks were treated with two Blush Subtil shades: Cappucine for definition and Mauve Coquette for a pop of color.

Editorial manicurist Ana Maria gave each model pretty hands and feet using Lancôme’s new polish in Sweet Nude (part of a mini trio, new for fall). As for the hair, Redken stylist John Ruidant wove intricately braided updos that matched the mood of the collection.

THE LOOK

GET THE LOOK: The Office’s Jenna Fischer looked beyond gorgeous on the red carpet at Saturday’s SAG Awards 2010. Jenna wore a purple, jeweled, strapless Marchesa gown and beautiful silver accessories. She had her hair pulled in a low, side bun. For makeup, she and her makeup artist Jennifer Pitt wanted to keep makeup fresh and natural looking, with an element of surprise. “Jenna likes to let her real skin show through,” said Jennifer. “With this colorful, glamorous dress, we felt a touch of drama to the eyes would be fun.”

The Breakdown: How to get Jenna’s Sultry Makeup Look at the 2010 SAG Awards

FACE: To keep her skin fresh looking, I started out with shu uemura’s Depsea Hydrabilty Moisturizing Emulsion. I then applied a bit of shu uemura’s UV Under Base Fluid on her cheek bones, under her eyes and on her brow bones. I wanted to take advantage of the product’s smoothing effect and the light-reflecting particles to give her skin a flawless finish. For her foundation, I used the Armani Luminous Silk Foundation. They have the amazing ability to be used either for light-weight coverage. Peachy tones look great with Jenna’s skin and went really well with her purple dress, so I used shu uemura’s Glow On blush in M Peach 44.

EYES: To get the look for her eyes, I used shu uemura’s new Eye Shimmer Duo in Glint Blue. The brown base and the blue silver seemed to complement her look and coloring perfectly. I used a dark plum eyeliner along the lash line for deeper definition. To keep the smoky eye fresh, and not too heavy, I decided to line the bottom lid with a soft taupe liner.

LIPS: On her lips I used the shu uemura’s Rouge Unlimited Supreme Shine lip colors. They have great pigments with a nice sheer coverage. I blended two colors to get the perfect shade for Jenna. I started with a base of Rouge Unlimited Supreme Shine in BG 943 (a pretty nude color) to define and moisturize her lips, and then I added a bit of Rouge Unlimited Supreme Shine in OR 520 (a peachy shade) to give her lips a pop of color.

BODY: To complete the look, we moisturized her arms, chest and back and applied Fluid Sheer #5 by Armani to give her skin the same radiant look that her makeup had.
