Kim Kardashian attended the 2010 Cosmetic Executive Women Beauty Awards at New York’s Waldorf-Astoria hotel, May 21st, 2010. Kim wore a beautiful one shoulder coral dress and her hair was pulled up off her shoulders. Her makeup artist Mario Dedivanovic created an absolutely gorgeous, soft and feminine look fit for the occasion, and now he is sharing his secrets on how to recreate this beautiful, refreshing look.

How to makeup tutorial:

FACE

On her skin I applied Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation blended with a bit of moisturizer, and used LaMer concealer under her eyes. I then set her face with Shu Uemura loose powder.

For a subtle glow, I sweep EYE M GLAM highlighter by Giella Cosmetics onto the cheekbones, bridge of nose and cupids bow, and applied Hot Mama blush by The Balm.

EYES

For her eyes I swept EYE M GLAM highlighter on her lids and on the inner corners of eyes to brighten and open up the eyes, and used a touch right on the brow bone too. I also filled her brows with MAC Brow Pencil in Linering, and lined the top lids with Lancome’s Art Liner extending it out and up past the eye.

I then applied Sephora Collection Flashy Liner in Flashy Brown on the inner rim of her eyes and smudged a bit along the lash line too, and finished the look by curling her lashes and applying two coats of Smashbox Hyperlash Mascara in black to both top and bottom lashes.

LIPS

Finally for her lips, I applied JK Jemma Kidd Sheer Vanity Gloss and Glaze in Belle de Jour.

NEW YORK, NY – May 17, 2010 – The Estée Lauder Companies Inc. (NYSE: EL) announced today that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Smashbox Beauty Cosmetics, Inc., a privately held, photo studio-inspired prestige cosmetics company based in Los Angeles, California. The acquisition is expected to close in July 2010, subject to certain conditions, including regulatory approval. While terms of the deal were not disclosed, the Company said that the transaction is expected to be accretive to earnings in fiscal year 2011, before transaction and integration costs.

The Smashbox brand, with its unique equity positioning, is a strategic complement to The Estée Lauder Companies’ portfolio of leading prestige cosmetic brands. Smashbox’s significant presence in assisted open-sell environments and specialty distribution channels will expand The Estée Lauder Companies’ product offerings and reach new and younger consumers in these high-growth prestige channels. Additionally, The Estée Lauder Companies will leverage its extensive international experience as it seeks to grow the brand and engage Smashbox’s expertise in digital and social media to advance its current capabilities, an important and growing competency for the Company.

Smashbox Beauty Cosmetics was founded in 1996 by brothers Dean and Davis Factor, great-grandsons of the makeup legend Max Factor, who were inspired by photo studio celebrities to create a unique makeup brand that met the highly demanding needs of a professional photo shoot. Since that time, Smashbox has established itself as a highly successful prestige cosmetics brand and a top performer in specialty channels. Currently, the majority of Smashbox’s sales are based in North America.

William P. Lauder, Executive Chairman of The Estée Lauder Companies, said, “One of the enduring strengths of The Estée Lauder Companies is our ability to identify brands with unique positioning and nurture those brands to accelerate their momentum and realize their full growth potential. The addition of Smashbox to our portfolio continues this 64-year legacy. We expect that with our strong cultural synergies and shared appreciation for family heritage, this will be a wonderful union.”

“Smashbox, like The Estée Lauder Companies, is a creativity-driven, consumer-inspired organization with great talent,” said Fabrizio Freda, President and Chief Executive Officer of The Estée Lauder Companies. “Adding Smashbox to our portfolio of brands will help strengthen our presence in prestige specialty channels worldwide, increase our product offerings in this important category and enhance our capabilities in digital media and direct response television. We are energized by the promising momentum of Smashbox and believe the brand will help attract new and younger consumers to The Estée Lauder Companies all over the world.”

“The Estée Lauder Companies is the ideal home for Smashbox,” said Dean Factor, co-founder and Chief Executive Officer, Smashbox Beauty Cosmetics, Inc. “The Company possesses the scale and vision to help transition Smashbox into its next phase of growth, and its track record of nurturing and growing prestige brands is second to none. Moreover, we share a similar cultural heritage and dedication to consumer-inspired innovation and creativity. We expect to benefit greatly from The Estée Lauder Companies’ extensive knowledge in product development, operational execution, and international marketing and distribution, and we look forward to the next great period of growth for the brand.”

“Smashbox is the leading Hollywood photo studio-inspired cosmetics brand with a devoted following and timeless appeal,” said John Demsey, Estée Lauder Companies’ Group President, responsible for the Estée Lauder, M•A•C, Tom Ford, Prescriptives, Bobbi Brown, Jo Malone, La Mer brands and after closing, Smashbox. “We are excited to be acquiring a uniquely positioned cosmetics brand with true talent well known for engaging consumers across prestige channels and in the digital media space. Smashbox fits perfectly within our DNA, and we look forward to continuing to delight our consumers together.”

The Estée Lauder Companies will collaborate with the Smashbox organization to develop a comprehensive integration plan to transition Smashbox into The Estee Lauder Companies’ family after closing. Dean Factor, co-founder and Chief Executive Officer, Davis Factor, co-founder, Chief Creative Office and celebrity photographer, and Budd Taylor, President, will each play key roles with respect to these activities and the continued success of Smashbox. Smashbox will continue operating out of its Los Angeles, California office.

The forward-looking statements in this press release, including those in the quoted remarks and those relating to the expectations for closing the acquisition, the impact on the Company’s financial results and the benefits of the acquisition, involve risks and uncertainties. Factors that could cause actual results to differ materially from those forward-looking statements include current economic and other conditions in the global marketplace, actions by retailers, suppliers and consumers, competition, the Company’s ability to successfully integrate the acquired business and/or implement its long-term strategic plan, and those described in the Company’s annual report on Form 10-K for the year ended June 30, 2009.

As the holiday season approaches, we prepare ourselves for Christmas and New Year’s Eve celebrations. As seen backstage for Tamara Pogosian Holiday 2010 fashion show in NYC, it was all about colored cheeks or bold lips. Makeup Artist Stephanie Flor created the makeup look. It was fun and original, and perfect for any occasion.

Inspired by the movement of Twilight: New Moon, Stephanie muted the colors on the face to add a dramatic effect with an intense dark red lip and angel white eyes.

Using a rich white shadow (Cover Girl Golden Sunset) Stephanie covered the upper lid and blended it to the brow bone. The eyebrows were combed upward with clear gel. White liner (Covergirl starlightening white) was applied to the inner rim of the models eye’s to add that special touch.

Model’s face was prepped with Keihl’s moisturizer and Smashbox HD primer. Covergirl foundation was used all over the face and Covergirl’s Pressed Shine Powder was dusted ONLY over the models t-zone to give a matte finish. Using Lash Blast Mascara she coated the top and bottom lashes in a thick black layer to make it visible from the runway.

For a quick makeup change, the makeup artist used the white inspired angel eye from the previous look, but substituted the dark lip with a classic nude. Then applied a pink colored blush to the apple of cheeks. This trick brought definition to the model’s cheekbones and an extra pop to her new look. “My personal favorite Nude is Smashbox Elegant,” said Stephanie Flor.

After all it’s the holidays, try something new and experiment with these two runway makeup look. “Remember, its all about colored cheeks or colored lips for Holiday 2009” said Stephanie Flor.

Celebrity Makeup Artist Jackie Sanchez does make up for Tyra Banks, Alek Wek and Kimora Lee.

In this interview, Jackie Sanchez talks to Marta Walsh about her first breaks as a makeup artist, makeup philosophy, working with supermodel Alek Wek and tips to getting her look, what can we find in her makeup bag, and future plans.

Jackie Sanchez

Marta Walsh: When did your fascination with makeup begin?
Jackie Sanchez: When I was 10 years old my brother got me a makeup kit called Scandia. It had eyeshadow, blush, lipstick, mascara, the works. I still remember opening that first box full of lipsticks!

MW: How did you get your first big break as a makeup artist?
JS: There are so many exciting times that I can remember. I would have to say working with legendary author Toni Morrison opened many doors for me. Traveling with her, accompanying her on book tours, meeting the television elite such as Katie Couric, Diane Sawyer, and Charlie Rose, has been so exciting.

MW: What is your makeup philosophy?
JS: I definitely believe in “less is more”. If you have nice skin why cover it up with heavy foundation and powder. Makeup should enhance your beauty.

MW: How did you end up doing makeup for Alek Wek and what was it like meeting her?
JS: I was fortunate enough to work with Ebony magazine’s Creative Director Harriette Cole and she assigned me to this project. Alek is the most down to earth, sincere and friendly model I have ever met. So polished and professional.

MW: Which types of makeup looks did Alek Wek tend to go for?
JS: Luckily I was given free reign to choose the “look” for Alek that day. With clothing being primarily black and shot against a gray background I decided to give Alek a pop of color. I used a mixture of navy blue eyeshadow highlighted with cobalt blue on top. I used a spicy burgundy bronzer and a shiny gloss with metallic flecks to balance out the strong blue eye color.

MW: What are some memorable makeup looks you’ve created Alek Wek, how can we achieve these looks at home?
JS: My advice would be to practice, practice, practice with neutrals. When you have your application skills in place then venture on to colors like purple, blue or green which are more difficult to work with.

Alek Wek

MW: Which products are must-haves in your makeup bag?
JS: For starters I always prep the face with Dermalogica skincare products. For foundations I like MAC or Black Opal stick foundations. These are great because you can control the coverage by applying thicker as a concealer or by mixing with moisturizer for a soft finish. For eye and cheek colors I turn to MAC, Smashbox, or NARS which come in a variety of textures and sheens – matte, dewy, pearlescent. I am a true lip gloss junkie and I love them all! My favorite mascara for the last 10 years(!) is L’Oreal Voluminous.

MW: What is the key for achieving long term success and popularity as a makeup artist?
JS: I would have to say being good at what you do but also being able to meet the specific needs of each client. If a client mentions a particular product they are fond of, be sure to have it with you every time you work with them. Be flexible and creative to create looks for different occasions. Makeup is about fun and experimentation…why do the exact same look day after day?

MW: Who would you love to do makeup for in the future?
JS: Such a tough question. I would love to work with Halle Berry, Hugh Jackman, and Estelle for starters.

MW: What’s next for Jackie Sanchez?
JS: Hopefully working behind the scenes with a major cosmetic manufacturer on product development. Also I hope to travel the world with some of my clients

How to get Terri Seymour’s makeup look at 17th Annual Elton John AIDS Foundation Oscar Party by Melissa Walsh:

Face: “I started with Hourglass Fluid Veil Foundation then used Photo-op undereye brightener by Smashbox under the eyes to brighten and topped that with Powderflage concealer by Benefit. I finished her base with Hourglass Invisible Veil Powder dusted lightly all over.”

Eyes: “On her eyes I used Hourglass Calligraphy Liquid Eyeliner in Ebony along the lashline, Urban Decay eyeshadow in Vapor (a light shimmery silver) on the lids and blended up into the crease. Smashbox eyeshadow in Obsidian (A dark gunmetal shimmer) over the liquid eyeliner gave a smokey look and was blended along the lower lashes for definition. I finished the eyes with 2 coats of Fresh Supernova mascara for an intense flutter!”

Cheeks: “The cheeks were given a glow with Cargo Catalina blusher and the lips were first stained with Benefit Posie Tint for long wearing color and then glossed with Smashbox Aura lipgloss to give a subtle shimmer.”
