I had the honor to meet Tom Pecheux renowned makeup artist and Estée Lauder’s Creative Makeup Director backstage at Peter Som Fall 2010. I love being around talented people, they truly inspire me. Tom did the makeup for the show using MAC Cosmetics products. And of course, Marta was taking notes

I asked Tom Pecheux some good questions about makeup and what does it take to be a top makeup artist backstage at Peter Som Fall 2010. You can even see Peter in the background.

Studio Sculpt Concealer – applied over the eyelid
Set Powder in Invisible – powdered over the eye area to set concealer
Pigment in With Legal – swept over the concealed eyelid from lash to brow and in the inner eye corner
Iridescent Powder in Silver Dusk – lightly applied to the inner eye corner and under the brow bone
Studio Fix Lash – applied to top and bottom lash

Studio Sculpt SPF Foundation– applied all over the face
Set Powder in Invisible – brushed over the skin to set the foundation for a matte finish
Iridescent Powder in Silver Dusk – lightly brushed on cheekbones

Lip:
Lip Pencil in Currant – lined around the natural shape of the mouth , for perfect lip definition
Lipstick in Kittenish – applied all over lip with a MAC 242 Brush
Mineralize Eye shadow Duo in My Dark Magic – lightly applied over lipstick with fingertips

For the very first time in the Estée Lauder brand’s 46 year history, they embarked on New York Fashion Week – sponsoring the beauty look (makeup & nails) at the Derek Lam AW 2010 runway show! Bold blue eyes, copper lips, matte skin, bare cheeks and neutral nails ruled the catwalk at Capitale on Tuesday, February 16th, 2010.

Pecheux began his career three decades ago by assisting the legendary makeup artist Linda Cantello but it was through his close creative relationships with Mario Testino and Carine Roitfeld at the start of the 1990s that Pecheux established himself as a leading force in makeup. Philosophically, Pecheux believes that make-up should flatter rather than conceal or embellish.

“It’s a great privilege to work with the Estee Lauder brand,” said Pecheux. “We are both dedicated to making women look and feel beautiful. I know this will be a great creative partnership.” Throughout his career, Pecheux has consistently worked with the finest fashion photographers, including Mario Testino, Patrick Demarchelier, Craig McDean, Peter Lindbergh, and Inez Van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin. He has also created striking runway looks for leading fashion houses including Marni, Ralph Lauren, Derek Lam, Givenchy, Balmain, Yves Saint Laurent and Jean-Paul Gaultier.

With Ghost Ranch, artist Georgia O’Keeffe’s stunning desert home, as the backdrop, both stylists decided to keep the look clean and simple—perfect skin and easy, swept-back hair with a touch of texture were the orders of the day.

“A modern interpretation of the optical efects of Man Ray.” Tom Pecheux.

Eyes: Vex and Scene eye shadows – blended over eyelids, up past the crease of the lids and along the lower lashline to create a gray wash on the eyes. Print eye shadow – gently applied over gray shadow to ad a blue tint. Blacktrack Fluidline – lining the top lashline and slightly extended past the outer corner of the eyes. Another thin black line was created by folowing the arch of the brow bone above the crease of the lid, and another folowing the lower lashline under the eyes.

Skin: Studio Sculpt SPF 15 Foundation – applied to the face for a natural but finished face. Invisible Set Powder – brushed over the entire face to set foundation.

Lips: Lip Erase in Dim – presed onto lips to create a skin tone mouth.
