The Hair Tutorial by Ken Paves: “Victoria is a gorgeous woman and wears her short hair well! It always looks so effortless, yet elegant and modern. For the Vanity Fair Oscar Party, we enhanced the volume but kept it sleek.

On her damp hair, I first sprayed my Volumizing Spray (Ken Paves Healthy Hair Volumizing Spray, $22: Ulta) all over and blow dried (Ken Paves Hair Dryer, $100: Ulta) with a vent brush for shape and volume. I created a part in the middle, and tucked her hair behind her ears, enhancing the shine with a touch of shine serum. Then, keeping her longer bangs in the front, I simply pulled them to each side for some added dimension. She looked amazing!”

The Hair Tutorial by Ken Paves: “I created an updo on Jessica that’s young and fresh, but still sophisticated and modern depending on which angle you view it from. I started off on her air-dried hair, and sprayed my Ken Paves Volumizing Spray ($22: Ulta) all over, and began curling it with my 1 inch curling iron (Ken Paves Curling Iron, $60: Ulta) to give the hair some bend.

Then, I brushed it out with a Mason Pearson paddle brush to loosen the curls, and starting to twist the side into her hair, pinning it to secure. With the remaining hair in the back, I created a loose chignon. I used my fingers to create a wave to the front and finished off with some of my Ken Paves Strong Hold Hair Spray ($22: Ulta) to finish the look. If you want to re-create the look of the chignon, I actually created one for Hairdo and it will be launching in April 2010 on QVC for $44! Stay tuned!”

Celebrity hair stylist Ken Paves tells Talking Makeup how to get Nelly Furtado’s hairdo at the 2009 AMA’s!

“For Nelly, we (Roberta Rogers from my LA salon and I) created a sleek ponytail with thick, modern chunky bangs. We started by spraying her damp hair with a volumizing spray (try my Ken Paves Healthy Hair Volumizing Spray, $22), and blowing it straight with my Ken Paves Professional Hair Dryer ($100, ULTA), using a Mason Pearson brush.

Once dry, we began tightly braiding the sides of Nelly’s hair upwards towards the crown of her head (and away from her face). This created a high ponytail, which I secured with a hooked elastic. I cut her bangs into a thick fringe and blew them out just at her brow. This last weekend I bought the 1875W SuperSolano Professional Hairdryer as my backup blow dryer. I can’t wait to try this one. I go with Mario Badescu years ago in New York City. I remember ‘it’ was the it spot to get pampered and get great facials for my co-workers on the trading floor in midtown Manhattan.
