He first started out by applying Fekkai Full Blown Volume Styling Whip ($23) to the hair from roots to ends, and blow-dried the hair completely. He set the front portion of the hair in velcro rollers. He followed by taking the sides and the back of the hair to a high ponytail at the crown, leaving the top section of the hair out.

After the hair was secured in the ponytail, he then started to backcomb/tease the ponytail from roots to ends and sprayed each section with Fekkai Sheer Hold Spray ($23). He then took each section and smoothed the ends with flat brush. He formed a big bun and tucked it in place with some hair pins and bobby pins.

He then followed by the taking the top section of the hair out of rollers and backcombed each section and smoothed it over to cascade over the big bun into a side swept pompadour feel. To finish this look he applied some Fekkai Glossing Mist for shine ($23).

Next, he pulled hair into a ponytail and secured at the crown. He then scrunched the hair and began pinning it loosely to create the ballerina like bun. The part was left natural and off central. 3. Then begin blow drying hair in the direction of the desired style.

5. Next, create the chignon using a Mason Pearson brush to smooth hair and play with the shape.

Amanda Seyfried Oscars 2010: The Hairstyle

Harry Josh, John Frieda International Creative Consultant, is sharing his styling secrets on how to get Oscar presenter Amanda Seyfried’s cool, understated hairdo with easy-to-use tips and tricks.

Harry gave Amanda the new Frizz-Ease Smooth Start Hydrating Shampoo and Conditioner in advance as the frizz-fighting formula was essential to smooth and hydrate dry strands and replenish moisture for a nice, smooth blow out.

“These shampoos and conditioners were the perfect way for Amanda to prep her hair,” said Harry. “The look was flat, clean and sleek, so it was important to start the fight against frizz early so that Amanda’s hair would be silky, shiny and totally manageable.”

Harry applied the new Root Awakening Strength Restoring Gel to Amanda’s hair at the roots to help achieve the sleek, flattened shape he was going for. Using a tail comb instead of a round brush to avoid lift, Harry blew the hair out, combing it flat to the head as he dried.

Harry then used the Sheer Blonde Crystal Clear Shape & Shimmer Hairspray section by section to hold the style. “Amanda has such beautiful naturally blonde hair that I wanted to ensure it looked its best all night and didn’t photograph dark – which some finishing sprays can cause. By using a light hairspray you avoid adding residue or darkening the blonde hair.”

Harry finished by creating an extreme, slick side part and pulling Amanda’s hair back into a bun. He left a little bit of the bun sticking out in a fan, a last minute decision he made to reflect the pattern on Amanda’s earrings.

How to get Jennifer Lopez’ Oscars 2010 updo:

To create the style, Vetica started by applying Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream on wet hair to create smoothness and shine. After blowdrying hair straight he sectioned hair off and created two ponytails, an inch apart, one on top of the other to create volume below the crown of the head.

Next, Vetica used a curling iron on each ponytail to create texture, and then brushed them out for width and volume. Celebrity hairdresser David Babaii created this romantic and elegant up-do to emphasize Nicole’s beautiful bone structure and Prada dress design. He began by spraying her entire head with David Babaii for WildAid Bohemian Beach Spray, scrunching into her hair for body, lift and texture. Next, he dried her hair using a large round brush concentrating on the root area for maximum lift.

Once dry, he divided tresses into 4 sections (top, sides and back leaving the nape area free). Using the H2Pro 300SE Styling Iron, he created “ribbon curls” by taking small “V” shaped partings. To achieve, wrap the hair around and inside the styling iron close to the scalp area and pull the iron down (similar to curling ribbon). After curling the entire head, he applied some David Babaii for WildAid Hair Polish into his hands, using his fingers to loosen the curls from the mid-section to the ends only.

This is done as to not disturb the texture at the top and crown area. Next, he carefully created a side part and again using his fingers to gently roll and twist hair. Pick up large sections as you continue to circle to the other side of the head and pin where needed. Finish into a messy bun and secure with additional pins. At the top area finger comb the bang area into a natural falling wave. For a long but natural lasting hold, he used David Babaii for WildAid Mise en Plis Light Styling Spray.

Hair Tutorial:

To set the mood, Laini made a custom flapper style accessory – a peacock feather fashioned to an elastic headband. Laini took the hair and twisted it up, over and into the band, keeping in tight to the head. The messy texture of the hair helped to modernize the look.

Step 1: Start with hair that is smooth and glossy. Laini has been using Shu Uemura Essence Absolue while on tour with Emily, a light blow dry lotion that helps to smooth hair and give great gloss. Apply this prior to blow drying.

Step 2: Gently scrunch dry hair to encourage a natural wave and boost texture

Step 3: Secure the headband and twist hair up and over around band, to back of head with messy bun at nape of neck

Step 4: Loosen a few strands to create a more modern, soft, tousled look

Step 5: Finish with a light holding spray
