Evolence: The New Collagen

Talking Makeup is excited to bring you the scoop about Evolence: the new collagen dermal filler.

Pharmaceutical company giant Johnson & Johnson has recently received U.S. Food and Drug Administration clearance to market Evolence, a new collagen.

Evolence is an advanced collagen-based structural dermal filler that provides long-lasting treatment for moderate to deep facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds. Evolence will be introduced in the U.S. throughout the second half of 2008. Although just approved in the U.S., Evolence has been widely available in other markets such as in Canada, Western and Eastern Europe, Israel, South Korea and Russia since 2004.

Unlike Restylane and Juvederm. Evolence uses tendons that are harvested from pigs, but once extracted, they can’t be traced back to the source. Having Evolence derived from a living source makes the collagen more pure, recognizable by the body, or biocompatible. You might want to think of Evolence as a new generation of dermal fillers or facial fillers. The results of treatment with Evolence are immediate, with minimal to no downtime post-treatment, and clinically proven to last through 6 months. You can call Evolence as the ‘Lunch Time Filler’.

The advanced collagen in Evolence has been naturally cross-linked, so it closely follows the three-dimensional structure of your skin’s own collagen. This allows Evolence to integrate well and support your skin’s own existing collagen network by adding structure, strength, and volume for a natural look and feel that last.

The longevity behind Evolence is achieved through Glymatrix Technology, a manufacturing process that cross-links the collagen with a natural sugar, not synthetic chemicals or substances.

Another advantage choosing Evolence is that it may cause less post-injection bruising and swelling than Restylane and Juvederm.

What distinguishes Evolence from other dermal fillers?
While other dermal fillers are often based on hyaluronic acid, Evolence is made from one of nature’s most abundant building blocks – collagen, a natural skin protein that constitutes 70 to 80 percent of the skin’s structural scaffold that helps give skin its strength, structure and support.

By replacing depleted facial collagen with naturally sourced collagen, Evolence mimics the natural support structure of the facial skin; allowing it to integrate very quickly with existing tissue without migrating from the area in which it was injected.

The naturally sourced porcine collagen used in Evolence is the most genetically similar to human collagen. This form of collagen has been used safely and effectively for decades in various medical applications, including heart valve replacement.

Treatment with Evolence is associated with minimal to no swelling or bruising following the procedure, giving patients the freedom to carry on with their day and enjoy immediate results of a more naturally refreshed and younger looking appearance.

Evolence is marketed in the United States by the Aesthetics Group of OrthoNeutrogena, a division of Ortho-McNeil-Janssen Pharmaceuticals, Inc. This innovative collagen structural dermal filler was developed by ColBar LifeScience, Ltd., a biotechnology company specializing in reconstructive medicine and tissue engineering.
