ANNE HATHAWAY / Makeup Artist Kate Lee

Beauty Tip:

“Anne wore a red Valentino Couture archive dress on the red carpet. The look was centered around a thin black lined eye with a defined socket and a deep rose lip stain. For a base, I used CHANEL Vitalumiere Fluid Makeup in Limpide, which I used throughout the show. For concelear, I used Kanebo Brush Type Concealer in CB 1 Light. To create a fresh glow on her cheeks, I used CHANEL Powder Blush in Fresque, and defined cheek bones with Kevyn Aucoin The Sculpting Powder in Medium. I created a black line created with Bobbi Brown longwear gel liner in Black Ink. The eye socket was defined with Illamasqua Powder Eye Shadow in Truth, and I applied CHANEL Inimitable Mascara in Noir. On her lips, I used CHANEL Rouge Coco Lip Colour in Rivoli, and lightly powdered over her mouth for a matte effect. In between changes I used By Terry Rose Salve to remove lip colors and keep lips fresh.”

NICOLE KIDMAN / Makeup Artist Angela Levin

Beauty Inspiration:

“Nicole’s Oscar look was glamorous Hollywood with a Brigitte Bardot twist. She looked sexy and playful! Beautiful glowing pale lips, rosy cheeks, and glamour were my inspiration, concentrating on her beautiful eyes and gorgeous skin.”

Beauty Tip:

“To prepare Nicole’s skin, I used CHANEL Sublimage Essential Regenerating Cream all over her face and neck, as well as on her shoulders and décolleté. As a base I used CHANEL Vitalumiere Fluid Makeup in Ivoire. For the eyes, I used the dark shade from the CHANEL Eyeshadow Duo in Bleu-Tendre feathering the shadow inward, creating a dark outer corner of the eye, for a bit of a up 60’s look. Then I used the taupe shade in the CHANEL Quadra Eyeshadow in Stupendous in the inner corner of the eye. From the CHANEL Quadra Eyeshadow in Winter Nights, I used the medium, silvery taupe shade and swept it on all over the eye using a round motion, blending all the shades together. On her eyebrows I used the CHANEL Brow Definer in Blond Clair, and two coats of CHANEL Inimitable Mascara in Noir, on top and bottom. Underneath the eye I used a Sephora Nano Eye Pencil in Silver Green. For her lips we chose CHANEL Rouge Coco Lip Colour in Magnolia. Then I used the same shade of lip colour on her cheeks, dabbing the shade on the apples of her cheeks with my finger. One of my favorite red carpet beauty tricks!”

SANDRA BULLOCK / Makeup Artist Angela Levin

Beauty Inspiration:

“My inspiration for Sandra’s look was glowing, princess, Hollywood glamour. Sandra represents elegance and simplicity, and I wanted her makeup to reflect just that.”

Beauty Tip:

“I prepped Sandra’s skin with CHANEL Hydramax + Active Serum around her eyes lips and cheeks. Over that, I applied a bit of CHANEL Sublimage Concentrate which creates a gorgeous, healthy complexion. For a base I used CHANEL Vitalumiere Fluid Makeup in Clair. On the lower jaw line, chin, and forehead, I added CHANEL Mat Lumiere Luminous Matte Fluid Makeup in Clair. I wanted the glow to be focused on the center of her face. For her eyes I used the CHANEL Quadra Eyeshadow in Kaska Beige. I applied the darkest colour and the taupe colour, blending them very lightly, using only a small amount of shadow, and I used a bit of the mauve shade under her lower lash line. I used the CHANEL Automatic Liquid Eyeliner in Noir to create a very thin, delicate line. For her cheeks, I used CHANEL Blush Duo Tweed Effect in Tweed Fuchsia. Finally, on her lips she wore CHANEL Rouge Coco Lip Colour in Gabrielle. I applied it with a lip brush, then had Sandra rub her lips together, and applied again with the brush, creating the look of a dark stain.”

MICHELLE WILLIAMS / Makeup Artist Jeanine Lobell

Beauty Inspiration:

“My inspiration was Michelle’s stunning CHANEL 2011 Spring/Summer Haute Couture gown. The dress represented Michelle’s personality – ethereal and sparkling.”

Beauty Tip:

“Michelle’s skin is so fresh and beautiful. I applied CHANEL Vitalumiere Aqua Ultra Light Skin Perfecting Makeup in B10, which allows her skin to shine though the makeup, creating a fresh look. I set the makeup with CHANEL Natural Finished Press Pressed Powder in Translucent 1. For eyes, we went for a light, ethereal smoky look mixing the shades in the CHANEL Quadra Eyeshadow in Smoky Eyes. I used the silvery shade as a base, and then used the pewter shade, taking it from the lash line up into the crease, adding shape to the eye. I then smudged the same shade in the lower lash line. I used the black shade, blended into the pewter, as a liner. I applied a few individual lashes in the center, and a lot of CHANEL Inimitable Waterproof Mascara in Noir on the top and bottom. I used the CHANEL Precision Brow Definer in Blond Claire to define the brow. To create a glowing pink cheek, I applied CHANEL Blush Duo Tweed Effect in Pink Tweed. I mixed her lip colour, CHANEL Rouge Coco Lip Colour in Rose Dentelle, with a bit of the Vitalumiere Aqua foundation, which creates the effect of the lips blending into the face.”

GWYNETH PALTROW / Makeup Artist Leslie Lopez

Beauty Inspiration:

“Gwyneth is very regal looking, she reminds me of Grace Kelly. Her dress was a gorgeous gold Calvin Klein gown. I wanted her to look classic and beautiful, and at the same time approachable.

Beauty Tip:

“I prepped her skin with CHANEL Sublimage Essential Regenerating Cream, then used CHANEL Vitalumiere Fluid Makeup in Beige as a base, and applied CHANEL Long-Lasting Concealer in Beige Ivoire. On her eyes I used CHANEL Fluid Iridescent Eyeshadow in Delta. I applied the shadow all over the lid, and then used CHANEL Soft Touch Eyeshadow in Trace in the crease. I then mixed the brown and taupe shades in CHANEL Quadra Eyeshadow in Mystic Eyes around the eyelid. I lined the eyes with CHANEL Precision Eye Definer in Brun, and applied two coats of CHANEL Inimitable Masarca in Noir, concentrating on the outer corners to make the eyes pop. To give a warmth to her skin, I used Soleil Tan de CHANEL in Terre Ambre. On the apples of her cheeks, I used CHANEL Tweed Blush Duo in Tweed Fuchsia. For her lips I used CHANEL Rouge Coco Shine in Canotier, (available in April) topped with CHANEL Rouge Allure Extrait de Gloss in Insouciance.”

HAILEE STEINFELD / Makeup Artist Stephen Sollitto

Beauty Inspiration:

“Hailee’s whole look was inspired by one pale pink shade of shadow in CHANEL Quadra Eyeshadow in Mystic Eyes. The word ‘ballerina’ came to my mind when I saw this shade and thought how poised, feminine, young, soft and yet strong Hailee was, like a ballerina. When I arrived on Oscar day, she had a pale pink Marchesa dress and my ballerina inspiration came to life. It was our word for our look for the day.”

Beauty Tip:

“I started Hailee’s face by moisturizing with CHANEL Beaute Initiale Energizing Multi Protection Cream. I let that sit for a minute then applied CHANEL Vitalumiere Aqua Skin Perfecting Foundation in Beige-Tendre all over with a damp sponge. Next I worked on her eyes with a veil of CHANEL Professional Eyeshadow Base in Beige all over her lid. At the lash line only I used CHANEL Waterproof Long Lasting Eyeliner in Cassis. I went over this line to blend it out and soften its edges with the deep plum shade in CHANEL Quadra Eyeshadow in Kaska Beige. To off set the pink and deep plum and to pop the gold in her eyes underneath the bottom lashes I used the gold in the same palette. I used a pliable blush to apply so the line was full under her lashes for some definition yet a softness to her eye. I then topped off her lashes with CHANEL Inimitable Waterproof Mascara in Noir. On Hailee’s cheeks I used two different colors. First I started with CHANEL Powder Blush in Espiegle in the hollows of her cheek bone. Then on top of that I layered CHANEL Blush Duo Tweed Effect in Tweed Pink. I dragged this from her apples very lightly to almost her nose just for some continued color. I applied CHANEL Rouge Coco Shine Lip Colour in Fetiche (available in April) on her lips, I did dot on a bit of CHANEL Glossimer in Rose Dilemma just for an extra pop of shine in the center of her bottom lip.”

HALLE BERRY / Makeup Artist Kara Yoshimoto Bua

Beauty Inspiration:

“Halle’s makeup look was inspired by the lightness and shimmmer of her Marchesa nude crystal and tulle strapless gown.”

Beauty Tip:

“We played up her eyes with warm browns instead of blacks, keeping them shimmery and soft edged while defining them by smoking them up and lining the inner eye. I used Revlon Luxurious Smoky Eye Pencil in Brown Smoky, and Revlon Custom Eyes Mascara in Black. To balance out the smoky eye but to still keep her look healthy and fresh, I used peaches that are soft enough yet with enough color. I applied CHANEL Powder Blush in Horizon on her cheeks, a warm glowing peach. I lined her lips with CHANEL Precision Lip Definer in Peche, a peach tone that has just enough brightness and definition, and applied CHANEL Glossimer in Petit Peche. Her base was a mixture of CHANEL Mat Lumiere Matte Fluid Makeup shades – Honey, Walnut and Chestnut. “
