INSPIRED BY NATURE

Historically, Lancôme’s researchers have been interested in the processes that the plant world uses to repair itself. Topping the list of research objectives is identifying new substances that would inspire new ways to actively treat the skin.

During this research, which spanned 12 years, our researchers were especially interested in how plants behave when injured. When plants are damaged they produce a “signal molecule” called jasmonic acid. Within plants, it is this signal-molecule that triggers the action of repair and defense mechanisms and which serves to make them more resistant. Lancôme’s research challenge, then, was to duplicate jasmonic acid’s ability to affect cell turnover in a compound that’s in perfect affinity with human skin. Our labs created and studied around 20 derivatives of this substance over a period of 12 years. Out of these studies, the molecule identified as LR 2412 was born.

A UNIQUE MOLECULAR DESIGN

LR 2412 is a ground-breaking new molecule. First, it is a small size and of amphiphilic nature, allowing it to merge with both aqueous and lipid skin structures. This unique characteristic makes this molecule four times more bio-available than a lipophilic molecule such as retinol. It also serves to make it tolerant for all skin types, including sensitive skin. Lancôme is so proud of its new molecule that it was unveiled at the World Congress of Dermatology in Seoul, Korea in May 2011, to rave reviews.

THE RESULTS

LR 2412 powers Visionnaire into a one-stop-shop for beautiful skin. Lancôme put Visionnaire through a comprehensive test program on a total of 800 women. This clinical study was carried out on diverse ethnicities (Hispanic, Caucasian, Asian and African American) against three skin criteria: wrinkles, pores and surface imperfections.

Additionally, Visionnaire was used in a four-week self assessment study that concluded this radical result: One out of two women who were tempted by a cosmetic procedure—injections, hyaluronic acid fillers, laser treatments and chemical peeling—opted to postpone it after seeing the transformation in their skin.*
