Baby Phat New York Fashion Week Fall 2008/2009-By MAC Trend Spot

Kimora Lee Simmons’ sugar baby is always an exception to every glamour rule, as Simmons does nightclub cloths for city girls. According to makeup artist Christopher Ardoff Kimora’s jumping point was “1920”-so with hair god Danilo creating marcel waves and pincurls on the models-Ardoff went for a Clara Bow/Josephine Baker/Billie Holiday effect slightly blocking out the brows with nude pencil but not twizing them out and drawing them back like Joan Crawford.

Additional makeup looks spotted at Baby Phat: grey glitter in a rounded crescent shape with a red orange stained mouth.  Deep burgundy brown matte on lips and eyes with burgundy glitter.  According to makeup artist Ardoff: “You do your base makeup after you do these eyes…because the glitter gets all over you and you don’t want it in your base-you want a nice soft contrasting skin that does not reflect, so that the only the eyes pop.”

Jason Wu New York Fashion Week Fall 2008-by MAC Cosmetics

Here are some highlights from the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York provided to us by MAC Cosmetics.  Jason Wu-Fall 20007 was the season of The Bright Lip.  Spring 2008 is the season of the Cheek and Lash or the season of The Glitter Eye.  It all began at Jason Wu’s subdued but very fifties-seventies-lady show of chiffons, florals, and A-line skirts shown with sweaters trimmed with fur.  Bow Bloused tucked into tailored pants were very Faye Dunaway in “Network”.

Romy Soleimani said Wu’s reference was “a little Jean Seberg-but not overwhelmingly”-she been sipping sherry.  To go with Wu’s stained gold hardware on his belts, she created a gold on grey glitter eye…the glitter eyes were soft-not entirely disco-but quite eye-catching…Soleimani hit the cheeks, not with peachy pink tones of last few seasons, but with “sculpt/shade” two tone blush set…together they make those cheek bones jut out just like in the old Lauren Hutton days.  “Sculpt is my new fave,” said Soleimani.  We smell the Halston look sneaking back….

Peter Som Spring 2008 Collection at New York Fashion Week

On Sunday September 9 2007, Peter Som unveiled his Spring 2008 Collection at Bryant Park during New York Fashion Week.  ghd helped create the sexy tousled hair looks for the catwalk.  Led by one of the most acclaimed stylists in the world Eugene Souleiman, the ghd directive team created naturally tousled looks that matched with the relaxed sex appeal to the All-American, chic, ultra-tailored, yet feminine designs.

According to Eugene Souleiman the look is naturally worn style but with a slight grunge edge to it.  According to ghd’s lead artist Omar Lopez it’s the look of the uptown girl who parties downtown.

Peter Som Spring 2008 Collection

Products to achieve this look: ghd miracle mist: used prior to blow drying models hair to control static and frizz.  Cost: $26.95.  ghd Thermal Protector: formulated to work with heat-styling tools to protect the hair during the styling process.  The team sprayed this on models hair before using ghd styling irons.  Cost: $24.95.

ghd IV Styler: the ghd team used ghd’s newest iron to get the perfect “natural” wave, giving hair movement and dimension.  To achieve this look at home: use the ghd styler to curl random sections of hair.  Curl only the part of the hair closest to scalp to midway through the hair section you are working on, leaving the ends untouched.  This what gives the style movement without  looking too “done”.  Cost: $240.  ghd Sea Spray: the matte textured spray recreates movement and curl, providing long lasting texture and firm hold.

The team lightly sprayed throughout  hair after curling, then used their fingers to shake out any curls that looked too defined.  Cost: $23.95.  ghd products are available at www.ghdhairusa.com and Sephora.

J. Mendel Spring 2008 Collection at New York Fashion Week

On Friday September 7, Gilles Mendel unveiled his Spring 2008 Collection at New York Fashion Week.  The runway-ready hair looks for the collection was created by the world’s fastest growing hair beauty brand, ghd.  The ghd directive team worked with world renowned stylist Odile Gilbert to create the retro glam hair to go with J. Mendel’s crisp, faminine collection on the catwalk.

The look: soft and smooth retro glam waves with a deep center part. According to the lead stylist Omar Lopez the inspiration for this look is Lauren Hutton circa 1974 at St. Tropez.  These are the ghd products that have been used: ghd Creation Spray: Odile and the ghd team used this must-have product prior to curling to protect models hair and provide long lasting hold.  Cost: $25.95.

ghd IV Styler: the ghd team used the revolutionary IV Styler ghd’s newest iron to achieve the 70’s inspired style.  To get this look: use the ghd styler to curl the hair starting just few inches away from the scalp to the ends.  Holding the styler vertically, clamp hair in between then turn the styler 180 degrees so the hair is twisted around part of the styler.  Pull the styler through the hair slowly to create the curl (the process is similar to curling a ribbon with scissors).  When finished, use fingers to slightly brush out the curls for soft romantic waves.  Cost: $240.
