Blogging Babes: Meet Marta of TalkingMakeup.com and BeautyInterviews.com

Usually, Marta Walsh, the sweet beauty addict behind the Talkingmakeup.com network of sites, does all the interviewing. In fact, two of her blogs, beautyinterviews.com and styleinterviews.com, are solely dedicated to that very thing. But I got this lady (pictured here with hair wizard Edward Tricomi) to agree to flip the tables here in Blogging-Babe-land and do some spillin’ of her own. Keep reading to find out all about her, her makeup tips and the one product she thinks every woman should own.
TGBD: Tell me how you got into makeup? Was it something you took to right away in your pre-teen years or did the love come later?
Marta: My love for makeup began in my early teens. My classmates use to wear black eyeliner and a lipgloss. I wasn’t allowed any makeup until I was 16, so I used to cheat now and then borrowing my big sister’s eyeliner and pretend I’m wearing real lip gloss with ChapStick. Growing up in Israel we didn’t have the variety of brands we have now, a lipstick from Revlon meant real luxury to me. Everything changed when I moved to New York City in my later teens, I felt like a kid in a candy shop. My obsession with trying every makeup and skincare brand just got bigger.
TGBD: You have a whole network of sites (Talking Makeup, Talking Perfume, Beauty Interviews, and Style Interviews)–how did each one come about?
Marta: I started Talking Makeup because I was so obsessed with makeup and shopping for makeup. I used to spend hours in a department store just touching makeup and looking out for new products on the market. Talking Makeup became an outlet for my love of makeup. If I saw a product in Sephora for example, I would obsess about it and write about it in my blog. It made me feel better. I know, can you believe that? I then became very interested in beauty brands, who created them and what goes around behind the scenes. This is when my love for interviewing began and Beauty Interviews and Style Interviews were born. I also became interested with celebrity beauty secrets, and began interviewing celebrities. My mission is to inspire readers with my interviews and introduce them to the people behind their favorite brands. I also enjoy creating my own unique content, and share new information with my readers.
TGBD: Let’s talk about your own personal makeup choices. Do you wear foundation?
Marta: I do wear foundation when I have time to apply makeup and especially before going out. My favorites at the moment are: Laura Mercier Oil Free Foundation, MAC Studio Sculpt, and Estee Lauder Nutritious Vita-Mineral Makeup. The days I’m too busy I like to wear powder foundation because it is just so quick to apply. I also carry powder foundation in my makeup bag, it’s compact and I can re-touch anytime. The classic is MAC Studio Fix and my new favorite is Elizabeth Arden Pure Finish Mineral Powder Foundation SPF20.
TGBD: What’s your favorite blush color these days?
Marta: My favorite blush these days is MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Blonde and Givenchy Iridescent Blush in 44 Maharani Orange (from the Givenchy Spring 2009 Makeup Collection).
TGBD: If you could mandate that every woman have one thing in her makeup bag, what would it be?
Marta: Powder Foundation, because makeup begins with perfect complexion! If your skin is not smooth and even when you’re out then there is no point applying anything else to it. Good coverage is what gives you that wow factor!
TGBD: What perfumes are you loving right now? And do you change up your scent a lot?
Marta: I do change perfumes a lot, from day to day, seasons, and just eras in my life. I used to be in love with Allure by Chanel and Angel. At the moment I love Dolce and Gabanna The One, Pretty by Elizabeth Arden, and Victoria’s Secret Very Sexy Dare.
TGBD: Has there ever been a product you tried that changed your life?
Marta: One product that changed my life was John Frieda’s Original Hair Serum. It was the end of an era for me and the beginning of smooth and silky straight hair! And St. Ives Apricot Scrub.
TGBD: And finally, name 4 products in my makeup bag right now!
Marta: 1. Laura Mercier Foundation Powder in shade NO. 3
2. MAC Cremesheen Glass in Fashion Scoop & L’OREAL HIP Color Presso in Swanky for backup.
3. Shiseido Automatic Lip Crayon in LC6.
4. Prescriptives False Eyelashes Plush Mascara in Plush Black.
