ghd Runway Report Fashion Week Swim 2010:Mara Hoffman,White Sands Australia,XTRA Life Lycra,Cia Maritima

Thanks to ghd, Talking Makeup is excited to give you a sneak peek to Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim 2010!

MARA HOFFMAN: Hair lead: Omar Lopez for ghd

“The Modern Hippie”

The Look: For her Resort 2010 Swim collection, Mara Hoffman drew inspiration from a spiritual exploration in the desert, which translated into a variety of unique silhouettes and colorful psychedelic prints, ranging from bold and bright to softer and more feminine

The ghd Way: Clean, bouncy waves for a modern take on the classic hippie coif. Lopez prepped the hair with ghd creation spray to protect models’ hair and provide a flexible hold for styling. He used a variation of ghd’s summer wave technique to create the clean, textured waves which was done by placing the ghd IV styler near the roots of hair and turning it 180 degrees upward and away from the scalp.

The ghd IV styler was slowing pulled down until it reached the midpoint between the roots and the ends, then flipped 180 degrees the opposite way and pulled all the way through the remaining half. Once the waves were created, Lopez misted ghd sea spray throughout to give the look definition and its overall beachy, matte texture.

WHITE SANDS AUSTRALIA: Hair lead: Andy Bodine for ghd

“The Ethereal Goddess”

The Look: Celestial glamour reigned supreme with frilly bandeau bikinis in a heavenly mix of sweet gelato colors.

The ghd Way: Beautiful cascading curls polished to perfection. Bodine began the look by spraying ghd thermal protector all over to prepare hair for heat styling. Using the ghd IV mini styler, Bodine created the classic ghd ribbon curl throughout the hair. Once the curl was made, a light mist of ghd ultimate hairspray helped set the look.

Finally, just before the girls stepped out onto the runway, Bodine gently finger combed some of the curls to create a little extra volume and give the look a slightly tousled effect.

XTRA LIFE LYCRA: Hair lead: Omar Lopez for ghd

“Sleek and Timelessly Chic”

The Look: Lycra took guests through the decades with archival garments from 1960-1990. The 2010 designer collections featured a variety of timeless styles inspired by elements of nature.

The ghd Way: Lopez created a classic, sophisticated sleek look that complemented both archival and present designs.

Hair was prepped with ghd creation spray to help create a base for heat styling. Using the ghd IV styler, Lopez straightened hair, running the iron through small pieces at a time to limit the amount of volume created and ensure a pin straight result.

Once all hair was straightened, Lopez brushed all the hair straight back to prevent any parts from being created, then sprayed ghd ultimate hairspray at the roots until hair was slightly damp. Lopez alternated between spraying hairspray and brushing hair back until the roots were left looking slick and wet while the ends were left completely dry. The result was a timelessly chic and sleek style that would easily complement all fashions from past, present and future collections.

CIA.MARÍTIMA: Hair lead: Craig Carter for ghd

“Classic Grace & Grandeur”

The Look: Beautiful sea shades from blue to green inspire the color palate for Cia.Marítima’s 2010 collection which featured turquoise, emerald and royal blue while incorporating neutral shades such as coral, brown, white and black.

The ghd Way: Carter created a twist on a classic look that resulted in an anything-but-basic pony.

First Carter prepped the hair with ghd thermal protector, dampening each section to protect the hair from heat styling while retaining its moisture. This created the perfect base for the ultra sleek style.

Using the ghd IV styler, Carter ironed the hair completely straight (the ghd IV mini styler was used for the areas closer to the hairline), then brushed it into a high pony that rested between the occipital and the crown of the head. The pony was secured with an elastic tie and wrapped with a braided gold cord around the base.

Finally to tame any flyaways, Carter used ghd ultimate hairspray around the hairline and a couple drops of ghd polishing serum throughout the pony for a clean, sleek finish.

ghd’s revolutionary styling irons and thermal protecting hair beauty range are available at great salons across the globe and in Sephora, as well as online at www.ghdhair.com  and www.sephora.com .
