L’Oreal Commissions Limited-Edition Jeweled Compact for Golden Globes

L’Oreal commissioned Carelle, known for colored gemstone jewelry, to create a compact featuring lemon citrine and pale green quartz stones set in 18K yellow gold with diamond details.

Each of the women nominated for best actress in a drama and in a comedy will receive one to commemorate her achievement. In addition to the compacts gifted to the likes of Angelina and Meryl (9 in total), one last compact will be auctioned off to benefit the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation at eBay.com during the Golden Globes show on January 11, 2009.

Additionally, L’Oreal Paris Consulting Makeup Artist, Collier Strong has identified the top trends we will see on the red carpet on January 11.

Trend 1:
Focus On The Lips
“It’s all about a beautiful bold lip! Whether it’s warm or cool, a bold, opaque, red lip has a very sexy yet romantic feel. The eyes are as glamorous or neutral as your wardrobe dictates. During the day, eyes are kept simple; at night, opt for a darker look. Either way, eye makeup should be blended beautifully and brows should be perfectly groomed for an elegant look. Finish the eyes with long, beautiful lashes. Pair this look with clean, glowy makeup, achieved with foundation, concealer and powder. For cheeks, use a complementary color to the red of the lip that works with your skin tone. Apply on the apples of the check for a pop of color.”
– Collier Strong, Consulting Makeup Artist, L’Oréal Paris

CHANEL Introduces Spring 2009 Makeup Collection

Talking Makeup has the sneak peek to CHANEL’s Spring 2009 Makeup Collection!

From the CHANEL Paris Makeup Studio, a spirited colour collection brings bold statements to the forefront of the boho-chic look. Inspired by ‘Coco’ Chanel’s fascination with haute bohemian style, eyes take on deep tones for day and night, while lips are saturated with fiery reds and lush nudes, evoking an earthy sensuality elevated to a new level of sophistication.

While delving through the house archives, Peter Philips, Global Creative Makeup Director for CHANEL, rediscovered gypsy dresses by Gabrielle Chanel. “The Gypsy is a heroine with very distinctive beauty codes,” explains Peter Philips. “After looking through the sketches by Mademoiselle Chanel, I also wanted to play with all of these contrasts. The gypsy’s eyes are as dark as her lips are fiery. She has the passion of travel in her veins, that of celebration, dance, and especially that of darkness and mystery.”

Marta Walsh Interviews Sara Strand of Pop Beauty

Meet Sara Strand the founder of Pop Beauty makeup line. In this interview Sara Strand talks to Marta Walsh about what drove her to create Pop Beauty, Eyecakes- the first product she conceptualized and developed as part of Pop Beauty, how Pop Beauty is perfect for anybody who is ready to experiment and move a little bit out of their comfort zone, her talent for singing, and her very exciting move to sunny California.

How was the idea for Pop Beauty makeup line born?
As a makeup artist and a woman – pop where the pieces that were missing in my makeup bag. Pop represents everything that I love about life, zest, energy, playfulness, and originality. Also there really was a gap in the market for fun colorful makeup of great quality! I also wanted fabulous products that would really stand out on stage.

How does the name Pop Beauty reflect its makeup collections?
The name says it all! A pop of color, to make your eyes pop. Pop culture, pop art. Just like the collections the name sums up what I love about makeup with an added edge and a touch of femininity!

What was the first makeup product you have conceptualized and created for Pop Beauty?
The eyecakes was the first product formulated for the first collection. The shades harmonize and are put together specifically to make green, blue and brown eyes pop. It’s a makeup artist’s advice in a cute retro tin! And the colors look amazing on!
