Carey Mulligan at the 2010 MET Ball
The stars hit the red carpet at The Costume Institute Gala Benefit. This year, the MET Ball celebrated the opening of the “American Women: Fashioning a National Identity” exhibition and Hollywood’s hottest actresses showed up with equal parts glam and daring. Sebastian stylist Thomas Dunkin tended to the locks of An Education actress Carey Mulligan before the gala. Looking to counter Carey’s very feminine dress with a tomboy flair, Thomas styled the actress’ short ‘do with a full fringe crop that’s approaching a very short bob.
Here, Thomas shares tips for recreating Carey’s understated style.

Hallie Bowman Celebrity Stylist for Pantene created Liv Tyler’s hairstyle last night at the Met Gala.
“With Liv, I went for a Bell du Jour look, with set hair and a little height in the crown. After washing, I sprayed the NEW Pantene Pro-V Fine Hair Root Lifter Spray Gel and applied the NEW Pantene Pro-V Fine Hair Triple Action Volume Mousse to achieve fullness at the roots to prepare for the elevated style.

Pantene Celebrity Stylist Danilo created Katy Perry’s hairdo for the 2010 MET Ball.
According to Danilo: “Katy’s been incredibly fun to work with this year because she loves to experiment with varied retro styles while still keeping the charm of old-school glamour. The look I created tonight was very 50’s Liz Taylor, hair pulled off the face with a sea of black waves.

Pantene Celebrity Stylist Danilo created Gwen Stefani’s hairdo for the 2010 MET Ball.
According to Danilo: “Gwen’s dress was made from a gold, vintage thread fabric from the 30’s, and we wanted to honor the ethereal flow by creating a chic silhouette from head to toe. I created a dramatic, contemporary twist inspired by Grace Kelly and the Hitchcock film goddesses.”
Lily Aldridge at the 2010 MET Ball
Lancôme makeup artist Ewa Szwed created supermodel Lily Aldridge’s look for the 2010 Met Ball. Lily wanted a very simple, clean look. Ewa applied Lancôme Effacernes Concealer as needed around the eyes and set the complexion with Lancôme Ageless Minérale Powder in Translucent.
Elettra Wiedemann at the 2010 MET Ball
Lancôme spokesmodel Elettra Wiedemann was a vision in crimson at last night’s Met Ball. Makeup artist Ewa Szwed paired Elettra’s gorgeous Marni gown with a striking red lip.
To create a subtle smoky eye, Ewa smudged Lancôme Ink Artliner in Sparkling Noir (available Fall 2010) along the upper and lower lash line and then applied Lancôme Le Stylo Waterproof in Noir to the waterline. Lancôme Color Design Eyeshadow in Backstage Pass and Garment were mixed together and swept over the liner.
IMAN at the 2010 MET Ball
Last night, celebrity makeup artist Sam Fine created a beautiful “Modern 30’s Glam” look for supermodel IMAN. Below, Sam shares the product he used to create this iconic look.
SKIN: Every look that walks the red carpet begins with flawless skin. I start by using Iman’s Second to None Luxury Radiance Liquid Makeup Enriched with Minerals (in shade 2) to highlight and conceal the under eye area. Then I uses Iman’s Second to None Stick Foundation in the same shade to achieve a flawless complexion that not only looks great on the red carpet, but lasts though the night!

Rachel Bilson looked stunning at the 2010 Costume Institute Gala. Her Louis Vuitton gown inspired her look: elegantly fresh with a modern asymmetrical edge. Master hairstylist Marco Santini for Moroccanoil created a virtuosic design emphasizing a playful counterpoint of smooth and wavy textures.
“It was very humid tonight and Rachel’s hair is fine so we had to layer products into her hair in a different way to make sure the style not only looked beautiful, shiny and natural, but held up throughout the evening.”

While her makeup was being applied Marco created a low part then finger-set the hair with Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream, “I used the product to hydrate and smooth her curly texture. Afterwards, I shaped the core texture using my hands and the blow dryer.

Sienna Miller made a dramatic entrance to the 2010 MET Ball wearing a stunning navy blue Emilio Pucci gown. The hair, created by celebrity stylist John D. was strongly inspired by the classic, sensual beauty of Brigitte Bardot.

According to John D., ” I first prepped her slightly damp hair with Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream, applying a small amount on the palm of my hand then finger-combing it throughout the hair. I used it to hydrate and protect the hair as well as helping to counteract the humidity in the air and prevent frizz. Next I did a super-clean, simple blowout using a flat bristle brush.
