Sebastian Professional’s Perfect Pony at Michael Angel

New York Fashion Week Spring 2010 Report: Michael Angel spring ‘10 – September 10th Hair by Sebastian Professional

Inspiration: Taking inspiration from strong influential women like Nancy Cunard, Josephine Baker and Schiaparelli, Michael Angel directed a Spring ’10 beauty look that’s meant to replace the depressing, dark days of yore with a revived, empowered and reenergized youthfulness. A fresh, healthy “just come back from holiday” look subtly complements the collection’s energy-packed, color-rich and cool designs that Michael is famous for.

The Hair Look: To keep this ponytail from looking cold and severe, Sebastian Professional lead stylist Thomas Dunkin kept the crown soft and clean, allowing some of the hair’s natural texture free reign for a played-in feeling.

Here’s how to create your own perfect pony:

1) Apply Sebastian Professional Thickefy Foam to damp hair; blend evenly throughout
2) Blow hair out straight with a medium to large-sized round brush
3) Neatly brush hair back with a comb or flat brush and fasten with a hair tie just below eye level to avoid looking too “sporty”
4) Smooth the first half of the head with Shine Define for a shiny finish or apply Microweb Fiber to entice rogue wisps for a more lived-in look
5) Mist the length with Halo Mist and leave smooth and straight

Miranda Kerr’s Hairstyle: The Mixed Textured Chignon

Miranda Kerr’s hairstyle (in images below) reminds me of Kirsten Dunst’s hairstyle for the 2009 CFDA Fashion Awards. Kirsten’s hair was styled there by Pantene’s celebrity hairstylist, Hallie Bowman. I don’t normally wear my hair up, it’s a habit I find very difficult to break. But, I must say, I wouldn’t mind to wear my hair like this (if I ever get invited to a red carpet event…a gal can dream:) I’ve first learned about The Mixed Textured Chignon by Hallie, and Marta calls it: ‘The modern Chignon’. This is a great alternative to the classic Chignon. Not too many people look great with their hair pulled tight and away from face like in a classic Chignon. It can look a bit harsh. Thoughts?

T3 Bespoke Labs Evolution Dryer

Few weeks ago I was in a desperate need of a new blow dryer. My old one just broke, and I’m NOT naming any names. So I took a trip to ULTA Scottsdale Arizona and find myself standing and staring at a shelf  full of beautiful blow dryers. Now, which one should I choose? Thanks to a fabulous sales girl, Tina, I decided to get T3 Bespoke Labs Evolution Dryer.

T3 Bespoke Labs Evolution Dryer costs $300!! I know! I  must say, I was quite skeptical at first to spend that much money on a blow dryer. But, I always remember something Pantene’s Celebrity Hair Stylist Hallie Bowman said: Save your big bucks on hair products but invest in the BEST styling tools. Because good styling tools will cut down on styling time, and the time your hair is exposed to damaging heat. Makes sense. Fast forward 3 weeks later, and I’m one happy customer with great looking hair:) Thank you Tina and ULTA Scottsdale for helping me pick my dream blow dryer!

How To Get Rachel Ray’s Hairstyle At The Daytime Emmy Awards

Rachael Ray came out big last night, winning the Daytime Emmy Awards 2009 for Outstanding Talk Show and accepting her win in a wearing a royal purple knee-length, form fitting halter dress complemented with full, luxurious wavy locks.

Carrie Fernow, Redken/Cutler session stylist created Rachel Ray’s effortless waves that held up all night long in the 98 degree Los Angeles heat!

Secret: I’m a Rachel Ray fan. You didn’t know this about me right? Her success story is very inspiring. Rachel is a great example of someones who simply followed their heart, did what they were truly passionate about, and rest just followed. And, she made it all seem so effortless.

Here, she shares his simple steps on how she achieved Rachael’s ‘do:

First a few pieces of extensions were added for extra length and fullness. Then Fernow applied Redken outshine 01 anti-frizz polishing milk (SRP $16) to Ray’s wet hair, which helped her strands fight the frizz in last night’s extreme LA heat! Next, the wet hair was sectioned and blow dried straight.

Vote For Marta’s Hair Color: Blonde or Brunette

The other day I met a very nice lady who saw my Drivers Licence photo where I have brown hair. She then insisted that I look so much better with brown hair. She mentioned the words “rich”, “suits your features”, “dramatic”, and “elegant”.

I have two photos of me (below): One with brown hair and one in blonde highlights.

What do you think: Should Marta go brunette or stay blonde?

“FAME” Star Kay Panabaker Interviews With Marta Walsh

Few weeks ago I was given an incredible opportunity to interview actress and FAME star Kay Panabaker. It was such pleasure chatting with Kay over the phone. She came across as extremely intelligent, witty, and very dedicated young woman. She completed her BA in History from UCLA before she turned 18! And, she is beautiful. Watch out Hollywood!

Kay gave me the biggest compliment: “Thank you for an intelligent interview and questions. I’m not used to those. I’m used to ‘What’s your character like’ and ‘Whose the most famous person you have in your cell phone’. I appreciate this interview, it was great.”-Kay Panabaker.

Thank you Kay!

Kay Panabaker plays the role of “Jenny” in the upcoming film FAME, a movie based upon the 1980 film which follows NYC talent attending the New York City High School for the Performing Arts, (Known today as Fiorello H. Laguardia H.S.) The Movie “FAME” is in theatres September 25th, 2009 (USA).

I caught up with Kay one afternoon this summer to chat about her love for acting. Her charcter “Jenny” in the upcoming film “FAME”. How she finds the balance between life and an acting career. Kay even reveald to me what’s in her makeup bag and future plans.

Marta Walsh: Why have you decided on a career in acting? How did it all began for Kay?
Kay Panabaker: My sister (Danielle Panabaker) and I kind of fell into acting. She and I used to do the same activities, like dancing. We would then take the same dance classes, and then the same print work and commercials. That was back in Georgia. When we moved to Chicago we started to do more theatre. One of our agents then recommended that we should move to LA. My mom was very skeptical. She told us it was a crazy idea and that we will never make it. So in a way I fell into acting, but I’ve been loving it pretty much from the beginning. When I was 10 I hardly even watched TV, so I don’t how I discovered the love for acting and movies.

MW: How do you find the right balance between school and enjoying life as a young woman and at same time working in Hollywood? What advice can you give to young aspiring actors and actresses?
KP: School and education are very important to me and I believe it is possible to do both. Just because you want to be an actress doesn’t mean you can’t go to school. I started community college when I was 13. I used to go to work during the day and go to school at night. I would do my homework in whatever spare time I had. Sure there is a sacrifice. I gave a bit on a social life but I made it work, and I’m so thankful that I did. I now have a degree I can fall into. I have more options. I got my degree so young I can even still go back to school if I decide do. There is nothing I can’t do!
