Halloween Makeup Tips: Shu Uemura Tokyo Lash Bar

I love Halloween because I can get out all my crazy, funky, and over the top makeup and wear it without thinking twice! My favorite way to dress up for Halloween is make my lashes very long and theatrical with beautiful false lashes by shu uemura the Tokyo Lash Bar Collection.

Marta’s loves: Fleur-Ever (premium edition) by Gina Brooke, artistic director for shu uemura. $79 (Image above. Bit pricey, but hey it’s Halloween and we live once!) Inspired by a flower’s ability to lift spirits and engender energy. This lash’s design emulates the tail of a bird whose exotic purple plumage is accented with white flecking. Petal-like forms hide inside the lashes, bringing to mind a bouquet of sweet peonies.

New York Fashion Week Spring 2010 Makeup Trends: Marc Jacobs

Show: Marc Jacobs Spring 2010
Lead Artist: François Nars, Founder and Creative Director of NARS Cosmetics
Trend: Theatrical Makeup

Inspiration: The look of the Marc Jacobs collection was inspired by the contemporary dancer, Martha Graham: Old-fashioned and theatrical but graceful and precise. At the same time, however, there was a darker side that was shone through: a quality of gothic romance. Ballerinas with a sense of mystery- as if part of them, along with some of their makeup, had been left behind on stage.

Look: Left-over stage makeup. The models weren’t meant to have perfect makeup- rather, they were meant to encompass a “just came off-stage” effect. “Dancers in theater and opera always have white faces, pointed lips and an eye that is drawn outward, not upward-it’s very theatrical, very ballet,” said François Nars. He stressed the importance of the eye for this look, noting that “the shape of the eyeliner is important- it should open the eyes, especially underneath. The slashes of white is something they used to do in the 70s- it brings a 3-dimensional feeling to the makeup.”

Below are some key products and steps for recreating the look:

How To Get Blake Lively’s Makeup Look at the Emmy Awards 2009

Celebrity Blake Lively was wearing Dior Beauty products at the Emmy Awards 2009!

Celebrity Makeup Artist Kristofer Buckle used Dior Beauty products to create a stunning “golden goddess” look for “Gossip Girl” star Blake Lively at the 2009 Emmy Awards in Los Angeles this evening.

“I used a lot of warm, honey colors on her skin and lips to make her green eyes pop,” said Buckle. “Then I topped off the look with tons of DiorShow Blackout Mascara, which transformed her upper and lower lashes into expressive frames.”

Makeup artist tip: “I used Dior Eye Show in Undressed Beige on Blake’s cheekbones and shoulders to create an ethereal glow,” said Buckle. “It’s technically an eyeshadow but it works basically anywhere you want to reflect the light!”

Skin: DiorSkin Airflash Spray Foundation in #301, Dior Skinflash #3 around the eyes.

Christina Applegate at the Emmy Awards 2009: Get The Look

Red carpet beauty scoop: get the look of Christina Applegate at the 2009 Emmy awards. Christina ‘s look was created by Makeup Artist: Joanna Schlip for Clarins.

The Makeup Look: Joanna was inspired by Christina’s dramatic, sweeping gown by Basil Soda when creating her makeup look. The vintage glamour of the navy stunner called for simple makeup that still made a statement. With her hair pulled back in a chic chignon, Joanna was able to play up Christina’s eyes with a sexy retro smolder, while keeping her skin fresh and lips softly pink. Like the dress, Christina’s makeup exuded a Brigitte Bardot 60’s cool, with a modern twist.
