Tippi Shorter Avon Global Stylist Advisor Interviews With Marta Walsh

I’m excite to share with you my interview with Avon Global Stylist Advisor Tippi Shorter

Tippi Shorter

In 1995 Tippi headed from home town, Long Beach, California to New York City, and within a year of her move she was asked to participate in a beauty feature for Essence magazine. Tippi opened Luxe Studio in Soho, but sold the successful salon after four years to pursue other career opportunities such as styling for photo shoots, music videos and commercials. Tippi is known for taming the tresses of A-list actresses, musicians, and supermodels including Alicia Keys, Rihanna, Jennifer Hudson, Beyonce, Jada Pinkett-Smith, and Vanessa Williams, to name a few! And while her beauty masterpieces are seen on the covers and editorial pages of In Style and Vanity Fair, Tippi remains modest and humble saying “I am not a celebrity hairstylist. I am a hairstylist who happens to have the opportunity to work with many wonderful celebrities.”

Kate Hudson at the Premiere of “NINE”

Love Kate Hudson’s hairdo at the Premiere of “NINE”? Talking Makeup has the scoop on how to get Kate’s look thanks to Celebrity Hairdresser David Babaii.

I prepared Kate’s wet hair by massaging a dime size amount of my David Babaii for WildAid Hair Polish into her hair. For greater control, I parted her hair into 4 sections (both sides and crown leaving the nape area free). This helps achieve the perfect blow dry.

I dried each section straight, giving the ends a soft rounded finish with my David Babaii for WildAid Blow Dryer. For added lift and volume, I sprayed some David Babaii for WildAid Volcanic Ash Root Amplifier.

To finish, I french braided her shorter layers to sweep hair back and away from her face. For hold, I used my Mise en Plis Light Styling Spray. It’s like oxygen for the hair! It doesn’t weigh your style down or make it feel tacky. At the end of the night, Kate’s look was completely fresh without any product build up

Natalie Portman at the 19th annual Gotham Awards: How To Get Her Hairdo

Matrix celeb stylist Mark Townsend styled Natalie Portman for the Gotham Awards on Monday night and she looked amazing!!

To get Natalie Portman’s asymmetrical side bun for the 19th annual Gotham Independent Film Awards, Matrix celebrity stylist Mark Townsend sprayed Biolage Bodifying Spray Gel in Natalie’s damp hair and blow dried it with a medium round brush. Next, he took 2 to 3 inch sections of hair and sprayed each with Vavoom Gold Heat Iron-In Control, wrapping the hair around a 1 inch curling iron.

Kate Beckinsale at the 30th Anniversary of MOCA

Frederic Fekkai Celebrity Stylist Adir Abergel created the look for Kate Beckinsale at the 30th Anniversary of MOCA.

The Look: an edgy take to the timeless up-do.

Abergel started by blow drying the hair with a FEKKAI LARGE ROUND BRUSH applying FEKKAI FULL BLOWN VOLUME LIFTING HAIRSPRAY at the roots to create some height for the updo. After blow drying, he let the hair cool around rollers in order to maximize volume. He then combed the top of the hair with a fine tooth comb to add height. After that, he polished the sides of the hair using FEKKAI COIFF NONCHALANT PIECING & FORMING WAX, pulling the hair into a tight ponytail just above the ear line. Finally, he twisted the ponytail and wrapped it around an elastic band forming a doughnut shape and pinned the pony into place. To secure the look, Abergel sprayed the hair with FEMME FEKKAI SENSUELLE HAIR SPRAY.

Frederic Fekkai Partners With CFDA/VOGUE Fashion Fund

Frederic Fekkai Partners with CFDA/VOGUE Fashion Fund to host the LA Runway Show for the 2009 Designer Finalists.

While the top designers in America were vying to win the 2009 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Award (which will be announced tonight), what really wowed the crowd were the two hair looks designed by celebrity stylist, Renato Campora for Frédéric Fekkai. As the exclusive beauty partner for the event, the Fekkai team worked closely with Vogue and the 10 Designer Finalists to create two special hairstyles, the Wet Look and the Dry Look, to compliment each of the collections.

Frederic Fekkai’s Lead Stylist, Renato Campora Creates Two Signature Hair Styles with an Emphasis on Texture:

The first look is a sculptural and edgy ponytail. It’s modern, young and sexy. The texture tells a story through the wet and twisted hard hair. Pieces are left in front for an effortless feel, inspired by some of the graphic trends shown in the collections.

Redken Mineral Elixir Dazzling Smoothing Oil

I’m a sucker for soft hair and frizz-free hair. I just dicovered Mineral Elixir Dazzling Smoothing Oil by Redken which I spray on after I blow dry my hair straight to keep my hair glossy and silky. I also like to use it on days I don’t wash my hair to fresh up my hairdo. And, it smells amazing! Redken knows their stuff!:)

Hair Trends: 40s Inspired Faux Bob

New York Fashion Week Spring 2010 Hair Trends Report:

Designer: Costello Tagliapietra Spring 2010 Collection
Hair by: Sebastian Professional
Hair Trend: 40s inspired faux bob.
Inspiration: Costello Tagliapietra’s Spring ’10 beauty look is a seamless combination of elegance, youthfulness, natural beauty and romance. The hair, both feminine and fresh, is loosely inspired by the traditional roll style from the ‘40s with soft curls that sit just above the shoulder.

To put a modern twist on a ‘40s staple, Sebastian Professional lead stylist Thomas Dunkin recommends a method of building texture and shape with techniques that keep the hair looking soft, romantic and not too “done.” Finish with an elastic touchable texturizer or flexible shine spray to create a look that’s elegant yet playful. Here’s how to create your own ‘40s inspired faux bob:

1) Apply Sebastian Professional Texturizer to damp hair; distribute evenly throughout.
2) Blow hair out straight with a medium to large-sized round brush.
3) Spray hair with a flexible hairspray for added texture, section hair, curl it with a medium-sized barrel curling iron and set.
4) Take out pins, gently brush out the curls and then roll hair under, section by section, fastening it under at the neck with bobby pins.
5) Apply Microweb Fiber to hands and gently work through the front of the hair to create an imperfect, lived-in effect. Finish by misting with a strong-hold hairspray.

Redken For Men high rise hard wax

Redken For Men high rise hard wax is a classic styling wax that gives maximum control to create long-lasting, dangerously high styles that defies gravity with a natural, humidity resistant finish. Suitable for all hair types.

I’ve used Redken For Men high rise hard wax on my hubby today, and it worked wonders on his very thick hair. It made his hair very moldable and added great definition and shine. Hair remained soft to touch. And the minty smell is amazing! Definitely a keeper for my hubby, he thinks he looks funky now:)

How to apply: Apply a small amount into palms and emulsify well by rubbing palms together. Drag fingers and palms through dry towel-dried hair and style as desired.

Trend Watch: At the Spring 2010 Men’s Fashion Week, stand up texture and added height were seen at shows like Bottega Veneta and Prada
