Paul Labrecque Premium Hair Care Collection

I met Paul Labrecque again backstage at Pamella Roland during New York Fashion Week Spring 2010 and he is the nicest guy! He is always excited to talk to me and tell me all about the hair trends backstage. I met Paul for the firs time this past February also during New York Fashion Week. Actually, I have the interview video with Paul from New York, and I promise to share with you soon. Very soon.

“Each day, I am inspired by my clients. I love the one-on-one interaction.” says Paul. “Making people feel beautiful and confident from the inside out is my passion.”

New York Fashion Week Spring 2010 Hair Trend Report: J. Mendel

Show: J. Mendel Sprong 2010 Collection
Lead Hair Stylist: Odile Gilbert for Moroccanoil
Hair Trend: Volume, tons of volume

Inspiration: The swooping stacked cut lines of artist Noriko Ambe. The organic splendor of artist Tara Donovan. Citing these two biomorphic artists as his springboard for the season, J. Mendel designer Gilles Mendel cultivates a collection seeded in elegant technicality and fluid emotion. “It’s the idea of using structured fabrics and adding an element of softness by using curved seams and intricate cut work,” says Mendel. “Each piece is an emotion.”

Hair:  To mirror this dance between tailored precision and soft, sloping curves, and to evoke a feeling of ethereal airiness, stylist Odile Gilbert fashions a voluminous hairstyle that revels in the organic, chaotic nature of mussed curls. “It’s all about volume — tons of volume — and a round, fluid shape. This look is very feminine.” says Gilbert, adding “It’s not feminine-frilly; rather it’s femininity with a modern twist.”

Giorgio Armani Beauty Introduces Rouge d’Armani

Rouge d’Armani: Color ecstasy. Pure, luxurious ecstasy in lip color. More than color, more than comfort, more than contour, more than hold. More than a lipstick.

In image below Rihanna is wearing Rouge d’Armani during Fashion’s Night Out September 10th, 2009.

Rouge d’Armani hasn’t even hit counters and has already become a cult favorite among beauty insiders – editors, makeup artists and celebrities alike. For Fashion’s Night Out, the Giorgio Armani Beauty counter was a hot spot on Vogue’s “Beauty Itinerary” with Rouge d’Armani 600 selected as a favorite by Vogue editors, while later that month Harper’s Bazaar declared Rouge d’Armani 500 a “must-have” lipstick. Rouge d’Armani has also become a staple in makeup artists’ kits whose brushes grace some of Hollywood’s hottest stars, including Jennifer Nettles, Jordana Brewster, Taylor Swift and Camilla Belle. Several celebrities have been spotted wearing Rouge d’Armani around town, including Rihanna featuring Rouge d’Armani 401 and Kerry Washington wearing Rouge d’Armani 100 during NYC’s Fashion’s Night Out – it was the perfect long-wear lipstick for the night’s festivities.

I also attended NOLCHA Fashion Week last week during my visit for New York Fashion Week Spring 2010. The two events happened simultaneously. I was so busy running around the tents and backstage of the shows at the New York  Fashion Week, but I made sure to stop by upper east side at the NOLCHA Fashion Week and to meet BJ Coleman. As soon as I walked in the Bohemian National Hall, located at 321 East 73rd I saw BJ Coleman and introduced myself. I told BJ that I couldn’t travel all the way to NYC and miss his event! I

Backstage with Lancôme at Chris Benz

New York Fashion Week Spring 2010 Makeup Trend Report.

Show: Chris Benz Spring 2010 Collection
Lead Makeup Artist: Daniel Martin for Lancôme
The Trend: Coral-colored pout.

The Look: Refined 60’s party girl. Healthy skin and stand-out lips: Chris’ spring collection is full of whimsical fabrics, colorful ornamentation and texture pieces.  For the makeup Chris asked Daniel to create a sun-kissed fresh look. He wanted healthy skin and prominent lip.

Daniel gave the models a natural glow by applying GÉNIFIQUE Youth Activating Concentrate to clean skin followed by GÉNIFIQUE Eye (Available 10/15/09) to brighten and open up the eye area. The complexion was perfectly even and polished. Shu Uemura Nobara Foundation was applied to even out the skin tone and Lancôme AGELESS MINÉRALE WITH WHITE SAPPHIRE COMPLEX (A perfecting and setting mineral powder) was dusted over the entire face. POP ‘N CHEEKS in Coral Flirt (Available Spring 2010) was used as a highlighter and lightly applied to the cheekbones near the temple for just a hint of color.

To define the eyes, Daniel smudged LE CRAYON KHÔL in Black Coffee on the upper and lower lash lash lines. Several coats of HYPNÔSE Mascara in Black were applied for thick, black lashes.

Lips were bright and creamy. Daniel used  L’ABSOLU ROUGE in Chris & Tell (Available Spring 2010 at Saks Fifth Avenue) for a vivid, coral-colored pout. Chris & Tell is the fifth lipstick in the POUT-A-PORTER designer lipstick series. In the meantime, the waiting list is open at Lancôme’s Upper West Side Boutique. simply call 212-362-4858 to be added to the waiting list.

Tracy Reese For Sally Hansen 2010 Spring Runway Nail Collection

During my time in NYC for Fashion Week Spring 2010 last week I stopped by the fabulous CVS & Robert Verdi lounge. The lounge was full of the latest hot new products at CVS. One of them was Sally Hansen latest HD nail color collection which I was absolutely in love with. The manicurist at the lounge applied Sally Hansen HD Nail Polish in Opulent Cloud: a gorgeous silver, with golden and some purple undertones. This shade is very chic and modern and the icing on the cake: it didn’t chip for  4 days!! I call it: “The Nail Polish That Doesn’t Chip”. It’s currently available at CVS, so go check it out!!

I took images below while I was getting my manicure at the CVS Robert Verdi Lounge in New York, a special event for beauty editors and beauty bloggers:

New York Fashion Week Spring 2010 Makeup Trends: Marc Jacobs

Show: Marc Jacobs Spring 2010
Lead Artist: François Nars, Founder and Creative Director of NARS Cosmetics
Trend: Theatrical Makeup

Inspiration: The look of the Marc Jacobs collection was inspired by the contemporary dancer, Martha Graham: Old-fashioned and theatrical but graceful and precise. At the same time, however, there was a darker side that was shone through: a quality of gothic romance. Ballerinas with a sense of mystery- as if part of them, along with some of their makeup, had been left behind on stage.

Look: Left-over stage makeup. The models weren’t meant to have perfect makeup- rather, they were meant to encompass a “just came off-stage” effect. “Dancers in theater and opera always have white faces, pointed lips and an eye that is drawn outward, not upward-it’s very theatrical, very ballet,” said François Nars. He stressed the importance of the eye for this look, noting that “the shape of the eyeliner is important- it should open the eyes, especially underneath. The slashes of white is something they used to do in the 70s- it brings a 3-dimensional feeling to the makeup.”

Below are some key products and steps for recreating the look:

London Fashion Week Spring 2010 MAC Makeup Trends

Rihanna Got New Blonde Highlights

Celebrity hair watch: Rihanna Got New Blonde Highlights.

Rihanna seems to not be afraid to try out trends straight off the runways. Rihanna’s very short haircut now gets blonde highlights! It reminds me of the 80’s punk look (George Michael “Wake Me Up Before You GO GO”?). I’ve seen the 80’s inspired look and hairstyles making a comeback backstage at Betsey Johnson Spring 2010, during New York Fashion Week. With 80’s classic music hits playing in the background, I must add. Loved it!!

Rihanna is also sporting a fall makeup trend: dark purple lips.

To get Rihanna’s dark purple inspired lips try MAC Mattene Lipstick in Night Violet. Shade description: Deep purple grape (Matte).

To get Rihanna’s weightless volume and ‘guts’ to hair try: Aerate 08 bodifying cream-mousse by Redken. This new mousse was a huge hit backstage during New York Fashion Week Spring 2010 at shows like: Badgley Mischka and Betsey Johnson. I’ve been using this mousse myself for the past week, and it works amazing to tame my very wavy frizz-prone hair, air dried or blow dried. According to Redken’s lead hairstylist backstage Peter Gray: many people afraid of a mousse as a styling product because all they think is the 80’s and that big hair. But in his opinion, mousse was the best thing invented for hair. He also said that most people afraid of styling products which shouldn’t be the case. Styling products are here to help you get the hairstyle you want. Also it is very important to apply styling products in the right way: use the right brush to apply or the right quantity.

BTW: Do you love Rihanna’s new blonde highlights?
