Nelly Furtado at the AMA’S: Get The Look

Celebrity hair stylist Ken Paves tells Talking Makeup how to get Nelly Furtado’s hairdo at the 2009 AMA’s!

“For Nelly, we (Roberta Rogers from my LA salon and I) created a sleek ponytail with thick, modern chunky bangs. We started by spraying her damp hair with a volumizing spray (try my Ken Paves Healthy Hair Volumizing Spray, $22), and blowing it straight with my Ken Paves Professional Hair Dryer ($100, ULTA), using a Mason Pearson brush.

Alicia Keys at the 2009 AMA’s: Get The Look

Tippi Shorter, Celebrity Stylist, styled Alicia Keys hair last night for the American Music Awards. Alicia dominated the stage, performing her and Jay-Z’s smash hit “Empire State of Mind” while also rocking it solo with her new song “Try Sleeping With a Broken Heart.”

Here’s how Tippi gave Alicia her red carpet hairdo:

Alicia recently got her hair colored a few shades lighter with Clairol, so Tippi started off by washing her hair with the Pantene Pro-V Color Revival Shampoo & Conditioner to keep her color looking healthy and vibrant for the camera.

Celebrities at the 2009 AMA: Carrie Underwood, Fergie, Shakira

Here are my celebrity picks from the 2009 AMA (American Music Awards)!

Carrie Underwood: I love Carrie’s entire look here: the dress, hair and makeup, but, the look is a bit soft and not so edgy rock and roll.

Fergie: Fergie’s dark brown hair color is growing on me. I like the sparkly dress. Fergie’s look here is a bit more rock and roll.

Shakira: My list is evolving in the order of edgy rock and roll. LOL. Number 3 is beautiful Shakira (“I get that a lot” that I look like Shakira. wow. Thanks guys:). Shaira’s dress reminds me of a gladiator costume.

For Thakoon’s Spring ’10, Eugene Souleiman, runway hair extraordinaire and Global Creative Director for Wella Professionals, and Wella’s master runway colorist Eva Scrivo collaborated on the overall hair look, which resulted in a merging of East and West for a sleek, sculpted, surfer inspired ‘do. Model Abby Lee (below) sported the style off the runway also and the hair color adds a completely new dimension to the look. Scrivo hand painted extensions using Wella Professionals to create depth of color with a natural, ombre effect – a trend we’ll be seeing much more of come spring!

John Frieda Hair Care

Last week I had the pleasure to join a webcast from New York City hosted by the John Frieda experts: John Frieda, Harry Josh, Luigi Murenu.

John Frieda

It was amazing to finally see the man behind truly one of my favorite brands ever, John Frieda. I can’t never forget when one day after I moved to New York City from Israel back in 1991, my sister told me that I MUST get this hair serum! It was the beginning of a new era in my life. The era of straight sleek hair. And a goodbye to the mousse-full big hair. In other words, the John Frieda Frizz-Ease Hair Serum is one product that revolutionized my (beauty) life.

Jessica Biel at the Planet 51 premiere in LA

Frederic Fekkai Celebrity Stylist Adir Abergel created the look for Jessica Biel at the Planet 51 premiere in LA.

Look: A fun, loose ponytail with lots of movement

How to get the look: Adir started by spraying FEKKAI COIFF BOUFFANT LIFTING & TEXTURIZING SPRAY GEL from the roots to the ends of the hair. He then used his hands to tousle her hair until it was completely dry. Once dried, he used a large barrel curling iron and curled the hair from the roots down. In order to achieve the textured look, Abergel sprayed a little FEKKAI COIFF OCÉANIQUE TOUSLED WAVE SPRAY. After, he backcombed the crown using a fine tooth comb and tied a loose ponytail leaving some front pieces to frame the front of her face. To finish the look, Adir added FEKKAI SHEER HOLD HAIRSPRAY.

Kate Beckinsale at the 30th Anniversary of MOCA

Frederic Fekkai Celebrity Stylist Adir Abergel created the look for Kate Beckinsale at the 30th Anniversary of MOCA.

The Look: an edgy take to the timeless up-do.

Abergel started by blow drying the hair with a FEKKAI LARGE ROUND BRUSH applying FEKKAI FULL BLOWN VOLUME LIFTING HAIRSPRAY at the roots to create some height for the updo. After blow drying, he let the hair cool around rollers in order to maximize volume. He then combed the top of the hair with a fine tooth comb to add height. After that, he polished the sides of the hair using FEKKAI COIFF NONCHALANT PIECING & FORMING WAX, pulling the hair into a tight ponytail just above the ear line. Finally, he twisted the ponytail and wrapped it around an elastic band forming a doughnut shape and pinned the pony into place. To secure the look, Abergel sprayed the hair with FEMME FEKKAI SENSUELLE HAIR SPRAY.
